im from the us..im a diehard..i have a couple of close friends who are the definition of casual...and they have mentioned wilder to me a few times without me ever mentioning him
now the UK fans we know are wayyy more into boxing than the fans here in the states.....i love watching UK events...crowd is packed and rabid(ive seen UK fans live and in person at hatton/pac..they are nuts and i love it)....
are you telling me that a big, US olympic, HW that is knocking guys out is unknown to the UK fans? is that why wilder "must" fight whyte?
whyte whos resume is full of domestics with an L to the really only world class guy on his resume? whytes resume makes wilders almost look decent....hes the HW chris eubank jr for crying out loud....
didnt he just put 70k in a place against takam? what kind of stadium are you looking to fill against wilder? one that holds 200k? im fairly certain wilder brings enough cache to fill 90k
lets face it....some of joshuas fans are a bit scared...they are hoping someone else can do the dirty work and miraculously beat wilder before he even gets to their beloved champ
i like joshua..i have no problems with him...look forward to seeing him fight....but this nonsense that wilder is ducking whyte or has to fight him is nothing by agenda driven fanboyism
The U.S.A didn't know who Pedvetkin or King-Dung Ortiz was! You think we gave a sh*t about going to Russia?! bring them on! is the American spirit. U.S.A!!! and we coming to the UK like Errol Spence jr. Get ready!
... and Gervonta Davis!:boxing:
what if wilder gets injured or decides to continually duck joshua the way you guys say he continually looks for outs from tough fights? what if he becomes your new andre ward...."he wont even show up he will back out or make up an injury"
how can hearn be sure such a chicken like wilder would show up ?
What investment doesn't have risks?
Joshua could have lost to Charles Martin when he was paid 6mil to come over here and then Hearn would have been left with next to nothing. It is all risk against reward... that's how every single business that's in the business of making money on this planet works.
As it is we'd be talking too much money for Wilder to just walk away from the fight with Joshua (plus lets face it; Wilder wants the fight) and even if Wilder were to somehow (don't see how it could ever happen, but strange things have) lose to Whyte then Hearn still wins anyway by booking Whyte v Joshua which would then be a huge fight considering Whyte would have been validated by beating Wilder.
If you are a boxing fan anywhere in the world then you know who Wilder is.
Casuals aren't really boxing fans though are they? I watched the Joshua v Takam fight with some friends when that was on; none of them knew who Pulev was and none of them knew that he'd been replaced by Takam (nor did they know who Takam was).
pretty much right?
i just dont buy that wilder needs more exposure in the UK to max out this fight with joshua.....people know him....hes an olympian with a gaudy ko ratio and he looks the part....yes we know his resume....but aside from wlad joshuas aint all that either...
you simply stand joshua and wilder next to each other...show the uk fans wilders record and bronze medal and its an instant mega fight
hearn just wants to make some coin on wilder with a guy that means nothing to him if he loses...wilder aint fallin for that
You've already been told countless times that people don't know him, with the exception of bigger fight fans. Bigger fight fans aren't the target market for mega fights... casuals are. More casuals = more PPV buys = more money.
In all honesty you're now starting to come off like a Wilder fanboy who won't have anything bad sad about his favourite fighter considering you've been presented with logical arguments from people that are in a far better position than yourself to come to a sound conclusion.
you wouldnt be convinced if hearn stuck his pecker in ur mouth and whispered "UK fans know who wilder is" in your ear
what a great debater. uses anecdotal evidence to try and prove a point then follows it up with dick humor. could be a job at fox news for you

#strapseason
Because Hearn can do that safe in the knowledge that the loss from that fight he can then make back several times over from the Joshua fight as the raised awareness of Wilder should in theory result in more interest amongst casuals for a Joshua v Wilder fight.

Why are they pretending people give a sh*t about Whyte?
No one cared about Whyte until Eddie Hearn said he should fight Wilder and then all the Wilder haters jumped on the bandwagon, "Wilder needs to beat Whyte to earn a fight with AJ"
whytes resume makes wilders respectable....whyte is the HW eubank...bunch of domestics and took an L the one time he stepped up to world class opposition
ur exactly right...literally no one claimed wilder should fight whyte till hearn brought it up....and these guys clamor for wilder to fight someone "live"...yet whyte was never mentioned
how is hearn offering wilder apparently "double what he makes" if no one knows who he is?
just curious...your comments seem sensible...just asking...i see guys telling us that hearns offers are double what wilder makes....how does that work if hes virtually unknown?
i dont believe that one has to see wilder fight to know who he is....word of mouth accounts for something and always does ......"hey theres this US heavyweight...big tall unbeaten with alot of knocksout...most of em are against bums but this guy was an olympic medalist too"......
UK has rabid boxing fans....hard to imagine even casuals havent heard the name or heard someone talk about a potential juicy matchup against their boy joshua right?...i know wilder is hardly a "legend"....but id venture to guess his name gets around even if one hasnt actually seen him

Wilder is known to UK fans. Very much so. I think the problem is (Especially with casuals), that they can't compare him with anyone. So sticking him in with someone they know, will give them a yardstick as well as whetting appetite for the inevitable future fight.
Wilder should beat Whyte, Bellew, Chisora et al, but he hasn't fought any of them.
Wilder v AJ is a huge fight now, in 6 months or in three years.
Me personally, I think it's the biggest fight out there. As AJ has stated he won't relinquish any titles, he's more than likely to fight a mandatory for his next defence. Then possibly Fury in the summer.
It should keep brewing along nicely for the next 6-9 months. In the mean time, Wilder should take care of Stiverne, then a defence against Whyte, Bellew, Haye (which at the same time would appease the casual Brits) would set up a barnstormer late next year.
ya...i find it hard to believe wilder ISNT known to the UK boxing fans
i could agree that it might up the ante if he could go in and outclass one of their domestics....and give them a measuring stick as to just "how good" he actually is
Fight fans here in Britain know who he is. Eddie hearn wants the casuals to bite though. Dillian Whyte is known by the casuals after the Joshua fight and is perfect to build the AJ vs Wilder fight. He doesn't just want decent numbers, he wants to break records with this one, and break them again with AJ vs fury.
"Pretending"? There's no pretending here...
I shall break this down:
You're right; boxing is on the up in the UK and has lots of casual fans these days, but you seem to be forgetting that Wilder fights in the US which is at around 3am here and thus the only spotlight Wilder has is through Sky Sports attempting to pump him up in order to make more money out of Joshua. Can almost guarantee that not one casual will have seen Wilder fight.
He is. He's average at best and got popularity solely on the back of his 'rivalry' with Joshua, but that rivalry made him a known commodity to the casuals, even if the more 'hardcore' boxing fans see Whyte as, well, trash.
Joshua will almost guarantee to fill any stadium in the UK so that's of little relevance... what is of relevance is PPV buys and thus logically they'll want both fighters to be big pulls in order to draw in as high numbers as possible.
There is definitely some fanboyism going on with these comments, but there is equally some logic behind it all because the fact of the matter is that Wilder isn't that well known in the UK. It's amusing that someone from the US believes that that statement in itself is just a fanboy comment when you simply cannot make a sound judgement of the matter without being in the UK.
I'm of the opinion that i'd like to see Joshua v Wilder to happen as soon as possible because I want to see the best fights possible, but I do equally accept that promotion wise Wilder needs a push in the UK (a fight here to showcase himself would be great!0 or Joshua needs a push in the US.
