Dont get me wrong it was a good fight. But it wasnt what it was all cracked up to be for the past 2 years. Both fighters only landed a couple really hard blows throughout the whole fight. Canelo literally spent the majority of the fight backing up avoiding exchanges then occasionally threw a combo. GGG looked hesitant and sluggish.
It just didnt live up to the hype, was supposed to be one of the best fights in recent years wasnt even the best fight of the year. Im not even hyped for the rematch.
When does a PPV fight ever live up to the hype though? The only one in recent times is May/Mac and that's just because of how low expectations were for it.
Basically. The good fights often are on the network or basic cable channels with a few on HBO or Showtime
Well thats their job.
And thanks for reminding me of that extra push Oscar was making late with the "8 rounds of hell" line or however many rounds of hell it was that he kept using. LMFAO in retrospect.
Yea lmao at oscar. It wasnt really a bad fight, it wasnt boring at all to me. Its just that the fans and even the fighters had everyone hyped it was going to be classic. We waited like 2 years and it was no where near a classic fight. They even billed it as being one of those hagler hearns type fights
Any other fight i wouldnt care if it turned out like that.
Anyone expecting a war was disappointed & underwhelmed I'm sure. I never really expected that sorta war & in general in big fights I'm on pins & f#cking needles cuz I know anything can happen in boxing at any moment...it usually doesn't, but it can. And that gets & keeps me amped for the big fights or fights with guys I'm invested in in some way so I'm rarely underwhelmed for the bigger fights. On repeat viewers it can be underwhelming doe lol.
Randomly I re-watched the fight, Calvin Grove vs Jorge Paez I, that got me watching everything boxing related & going to fights & I remember going nuts for that fight & in particular the finish where Paez scored 3 KD's in the 15th round to swipe the W & while the ending was still exciting as f#ck the rest of the fight not so much. Watching it doe I was invested as f#ck & hyped about everything going on. And thats pretty much how I get in the big fights or important fights to me ever since live in the moment even if the taped version isn't as good to me.
I expected a war, and thats what the promotion promised. Thats why is was so dissapointed when it just turned out to be a regular fight.
I thought it was an interesting fight. Mostly because of the things that the fighters did wrong. Canelo going to the ropes and fighting in spurts Golovkin neglicting to body punch and not attacking Canelo all out along the ropes. I had Golovkin winning by four rounds. The rematch should be better.

When the top guys in boxing fight each other, I never expect an entertaining fight, it's pretty rare. I still can't believe that people were upset that Mayweather vs Pacquiao wasn't some toe to toe slugfest.
Tell the poster above you. He thought it lived up to the hype.

To me it was like they didint want to hurt each other
I don’t know what annoyed me more? GGG not going balls to the wall or canelo on his damn bike all night
I enjoyed the fight but was disappointed in golovkin after hearing so much about his 400 amateur fights ramrod jab monster power canelos slow feet no power laying on the ropes to be so ineffective and hesitant in his attack reduced to a jab.he looked frustrated all night and had no idea how to get by canelos defence.it reminded me of Oscar vs Trinidad were Oscar was so far above Trinidad skills to be a great fight only difference Oscar gave away the late rounds and canelo some of the middle both fights with a controversial ending
Took Zero risks?
He literally spent 7-8 rounds on the ropes, thats a huge risk against GGG
He didnt throw anything, he would just stand. Slip shots, then move away . He did this most of the fight, he rarely exchanged. GGG was hesitant too.
Canelo took zero risks at all. To make a fight great you have to take risks, thats what alot of fighters dont do nowadays. Thats why ther arent much fights like hears/hagler or SRL vs duran

It was a great fight, the reason why it wasn't exciting for some people is because both of those guys have iron chins and it's hard for them to hurt each other. If they had average chins both of them would get rocked at some point and there would be some knockdowns and the dynamic of the fight would change.
That is true, but they never even really exchanged much. Canelo promised he would go toe 2 toe yet tried to be lara when the bell actually rang. He didnt even try to make it an exciting fight after talking alot of **** beforehand. He was content with making it as boring as he can.

Personally I never find a fight between two highly skilled fighters boring. Even if there is not much going on it's still interesting to see how the fighters move and feint and try to set up or avoid things. I even liked to watch Klitschko vs Fury for example. When it's high level boxing there's always something to see if you know what you're watching.

Exactly. They want the top guys fighting each other then get mad when they are equally skilled. To get the great “exciting” fights you need one to be much better than the other...:i for one thought it was a great fight. But I was impressed by Canelo. He showed me another side
