Is the WBO a worthless belt? Kovalev vs Shabranskyy

WBC is still KING giving its Amazing RICH Tradition. WBO comes in maybe 4th behind the WBC, WBA and IBF in that order then the WBO which is barely over the IBO Even the WBO Rankings are a bit Laughable, in some Divisions they don't even RANK some of the top fighters in those Divisions. But I agree with some of the other post already as far as ALL OF THEM being a Joke now!

I agree and always thought of the IBO as the red headed step child of the belts but all I'm saying is look at their 4 recognizable Champs Joshua Golovkin Eubank Lara Lara, AJ , Gennady are clearly the #1 in their division and if Eubank wins the WBSS then he's no lower then #2 . All those division are relatively deep Now look at the best WBO strap holders Crawford was #1 but has probably vacated , Loma ( weak division ), Usyk, Cotto ( who was completely undeserving of that title) And more often then not their Belt holder is the weakest in their division How can you not think the WBO and IBo are approaching the same level of importance or lack thereof ? Ring magazine title is completely meaningless. Oscar De La Hoya bought the magazine and changed all the rules, and started making up rules as he went along, to benefit HBO whenever possible and to harm SHO whenever possible. Nobody in the industry takes the magazine belt seriously anymore. How could you? De La Hoya owns it. It's his own personal championship. It's got no credibility whatsoever and has nothing to do with lineal anymore and Ring now has selectively enforced "mandatories" so they can strip SHO fighters whenever they want. Clearly boxing fans value the WBC, WBA and IBF titles, as do the boxers. Most of the greatest and most famous fights of the last 50+ years were fought for those belts. Lineal titles are meaningless now. Everyone knows Joshua would destroy Fury. So what does Fury's "lineal" title mean? Nothing. Joshua is forced to face top contenders to keep his belts. Fury can do coke and never fight and stay champ. Ludicrous. have not seen bias in their rankings yet that may change now that he fired 2nd editor since he bought it.dougie (the hater)fisher is running show.

The WBO should be de-recognised. Yes, some good fighters hold WBO titles, but they should be forced to fight for other belts if they want to call themselves champions

You clearly don't know much about the history of the other 3. Even our biggest detractors would admit we know much more than most about the history of the WBC, WBA and IBF. There's nothing you can post about them that will compare to the WBA's bribe taker being publicly outed, disgraced, and fired, forcing him to start the WBO because he was blackballed by everybody else when Bob Arum went public about all of the bribes he paid him. That is the WBO's founder. It was literally created by the confirmed mastermind of the most corrupt and blatant bribery racket in the history of boxing, even worse than the scandal that landed the IBF president in jail. The worst thing you listed about the WBC is that they tried to reinstate the real light heavyweight champion. The worst thing you listed about the IBF is that they were forced to strip Fury after Fury broke his promise to face their mandatory and hid his rematch clause from the IBF after lying to them. IBF had no choice but to strip him. There was a binding contract Fury was refusing to honor. Shows how little you know about the things you're (poorly) attempting to discuss.

So how can it be the championship of the world if the world says otherwise? The other belts go for more at purse bid because the boxing world regards them as more important. The WBO literally does whatever Arum and Warren want them to. It's technically a world title, but barely. But the top promoters and managers pursue the other titles as their first choice because they know the fans regard the other titles as more legitimate. We've now had several WBO world heavyweight title fights, in a row, fail to get live US TV coverage, if they even get any coverage at all. You can't seriously tell me the world considers the WBO belt the true heavyweight championship of the world. Because they don't. They never have and they never will. The WBO has come a long way. So many no name champions and now you have Kovalev fighting for the WBO belt against Vyacheslav Shabranskyy, who probably isnt even a top 10 guy in the division Its like Miguel Cotto winning the WBO belt, he beat Yoshihiro Kamegai whos terrible and lost to fukin Alfonso Gomez. Hell Cotto at this point isnt even a top 5 guy in the LMW divsion. Another example is Liam Smith being WBO champion, he beat some guy called John Thompson to become champ. Like is John Thompson is a top 10 guy or even World level? Seems like they just give title shots to any bum, and feed that bum to popular champions who draw crowds like Canelo, Cotto etcI guess terence crawford is a sh1tty no name champion

The WBO has some of the weakest champions and challengers. They might be the weakest of the four major belts. What is really bad is you will have a boxer ranked number 1 by a couple of the big 4 and not ranked even in the top 15 by the other two. There is no consistency among them at all. Horn is defending his title against a guy ranked 70th by boxrec so how good could he be?
