Bernard Hopkins could win if he fights in a place where he is allowed to get a way with fouling and dirty tactics. So that means most likely if the fight takes place in Las Vegas or any other place in his home country of USA.
However, in a clean boxing match, Golovkin schools Bernard Hopkins.
In a neutral land, where the rules of boxing are properly enforced by the officials and where the judges judge the fight properly in accordance to the actual scoring criteria, the following 3 things most likely happen:
1) Gennady Golovkin stops Bernard Hopkins late!
2) Bernard Hopkins gets disqualified for fouling!
3) Gennady Golovkin wins by unanimous decision decisively.
If Brook had been a natural middle-weight, I'm assuming he doesn't get injured and would have been piecing up GGG for 12 rounds like Jacobs and Canelo. Those are GGG's 3 best opponents. With social media these days it's easy to hype anybody. And people seem to go bunkers over 3s as in GGG, CP3, 3T, RG3 which is unbelievable.
Kell Brook was heavier than a jet lagged Gennady Golovkin on fight night competing in a foreign territory / country / land.
So quit the 'size disadvantage DOE' excuse to diminish Golovkin's feats.

Kovalev's strategy for neutralizing BHop was boxing from the distance so that he couldn't do much on the inside and make him frustated. Golovkin basic syle is setting up with the jab and popping it so can wear out his opponents. Considering it's quite a tool, I can see him keeping Hopkins at bay and avoiding him getting on the inside and making it a trickstery deal at close range.
That being said, Bernard is one crafty dude. He was slick and quick and could find a way to get inside and making it his fight. Plus, GGG's power would chip away at him, he had a granite chin. Once he gets on the inside, Golovkin is done IMO. He would outbox his ears off. So while not 12-0, I can see BHop winning by a wide margin, say, 117-111.
Trinidad vs. Golovkin...that is one hell of a fight.
Have to laugh when guys give their opinion like it's the Word from on high.
Hopkins lost 2X to Taylor and 2X to Dawson. Oh, thats right, BHop avoided 1 loss to Chad by faking an injury. Bernard sure coud foul but he couldn't act for sh1t. lol
I think Hopkins would have to be favorite. It wouldn't be an easy fight for Hops but he'd have the size advantage and he could make it really ugly inside. I think that is one fight where he would stay on the inside and use his size, savvy/or dirty tricks (I think it is somewhere in between) to neutralize Golovkin strengths. At mid range the fight would be pretty equal, that's why I think Hops would go inside. So yes I'd favor Hopkins and I felt that way before the Canelo fight. I don't see Hops stopping Golovkin.
GGG vs. Tito would have been a fun fight. That would have been two guys right in front of each other.
Hopkins isn't outclassing any of them and regarding Martinez i think a prime very athletic southpaw would cause real issues for Bernard.
Maybe Canelo and Golovkin have a chance against B-Hop, but no way does Martinez, he has a glass chin
Why are these great boxers of the past always brought back to life for the express purpose of beating the hell out of the hated, evil GGG? Does the prime Hopkins come to life to beat Ward, Kessler, Froch, Stevenson, Kovalev,Canelo, Jermall, Lara,Eubank,Badou Jack, Mayweather or Cotto? Nope. It's always GGG who gets thrashed and humiliated by these great past boxers.
Martinez was too prone to knock downs. He'd get stopped by GGG.
Style wise Martinez is tailor made for Golovkin, it would end in Golovkin's favor in the first 3
The guys who don't like GGG can always kick his ass in a good old fantasy fight. Just type in the name of the boxer you want to beat him and make him lose every round. It's that easy. Poor GGG doesn't have a chance in hell to win. He does much better against real live opponents in real world fights.
I can't believe how many people are picking ggg..
Hopkins would carve him up over 12 rds. Too much movement, jabs, counters, dirty tricks, 2nd half of the fight, Hopkins going to have the straight right landing with laser precision.
I honestly have no doubt that Hopkins 1997-2002 would beat golovkin.. def not 12-0, but he beats him and beats him clearly
Man, it is easy to forget just how good Hopkins was till I saw that video of him in his prime against unbeaten Glen Johnson. How fast he was and perfectly placed punches. That version of Hopkins was absolutely special and it takes a perfect fighting machine like Roy Jones to beat that Hopkins. 118 to 111 in favor of Hopkins over GGG.

The Hopkins who fought Trinidad would have 12-0 GGG. | BoxingScene Community
