Any projections for the May/Mac and Canelo/GGG PPV buys?
Dan Rafael, King Fight Freak (12:30 PM)
May-Mac did huge business. Showtime said it's over 4 million but they are not sure whether it has broken the record or is just shy of the record yet. Canelo-GGG no announcement yet but I know the HBO folks think there's a good chance it topped 2 million which would be massive.
They're still counting MayMac. It's trending right about 4.6-4.8 though.
CaneloGGG should do from 1.5-2mm
How f'n long does it take to count? I work in an industry which deals in digital sales, it doesn't take a month to figure out what we sold.
That is GREAT! So NO excuses NOT to make the rematch! I predicted 800K-1.3 Million anything less than that then it would've made us the Boxing Fans look bad not the fighters! If you ask for a fight, when the Promoters make it we have to SUPPORT IT!
Are we ever going to get an official Mayweather-McGregor PPV number?
I thought Canelo-GGG would do about 1.5MM but less than that would be a tad disappointing.

what a dummy. :headbang: Kafkod uses averages to make his x-factor point..
kaf****, justify the mathsss for May vs Nelo PPV vs Mayweather vs Berto PPV or Nelo vs Lara PPV. What were Angulo's PPV X-factor in helping out Nelo?
Another one!
The retards love GGG threads!
This is why nobody can take you serious. First you intentionally grab the HIGHEST PPV estimate for GGG but compare it to the lowest estimate for Canelo. Play fair there buddy K2 said GGG/Jacobs did 170K and that GGG/Lemieux did 150K. If we going by what the promoter put out then Canelo/Smith did 300K according to Golden Boy. If you want to ignore what the promoters said then GGG/Lemieux did as low as 97K and GGG/Jacobs 110K. You pick which you want either way if you stay consistent Canelo/Smith did about double the ppvs as GGG's only 2 PPVs.
Second Smith was totally unknown fighter NEVER fought on US soil no fight ever aired on US television. Lemieux and Jacobs both been involved in numerous head line fights in the US and on US major TV telecasts. Canelo fighting Smith is like GGG fighting Wade which wasn't even good enough for PPV and still doubled up his biggest fights. GGG vs Jacobs and Lemiuex did 150-170K how much do they sell if either fights Canelo in May? GGG/Jacobs is similar to Canelo/Khan and that did 600K comparing it to Smith is stupid because Jacobs is a bigger name and draw then Smith. Canelo is clearly the bigger draw stop pretending it's close. :pat:
There is nobody GGG can fight that even cracks 500K Ppv buys, canelo did 1m buys this year alone without GGG. chavezjr at his hight of popularity did 400K buys against sergio.
Ok, I'll play you at your own retarded game.
Chavez Jr's drawing power = 400k PPVs, and Canelo vs Chavez Jr sold 1million. So that must mean Canelo's drawing power = 600k PPVs.
So when the numbers for GGG vs Canelo come out, all we have to do is subtract 600k from the total and the remainder = Golovkin's drawing power. Simple!
OK, I understand... but I think "significantly above 1 million" can't mean that figure you put down... because they would have said "significantly above 1.5 million" instead... :)
in Canelo vs. Cotto, Cotto was also a draw. Canelo on his own can Draw 400-500k tops, Canelo vs. a good opponent Draws the rest. It isn't the fighters individually that draw a lot (though Canelo is more of a draw for sure) it is the two together that make the event.
Look at the last PPV numbers of both fighters against "no name" opponents.
Canelo vs Smith did 260k, Golovkin vs Jacobs did 170k.
Canelo vs Golovkin or, if you prefer, Golovkin vs Canelo sold this fight!
Trying to separate the fighters from the fight is ridiculous.

Good observation. Certain fans fail to realize that an event is not an event unless both parties are part of it. Everyone gives Floyd the credit for May/Pac numbers and May/Mac numbers, but those numbers could only be achieved if Pac and Mac are the opponent. So as much as Floyd holds a PPV record, Manny holds it too.
As for GGG/Canelo, it had just the right amount of build up and drama needed to pull big numbers. It didn't marinate for 5 years, and Oscar didn't keep moving the goal post whenever an agreement was reached. It was a good fight, and I think a rematch will pull down even bigger PPV numbers.
I was only speculating about sold the fight... not about how GGG gained more of the Mexican public in the process... :)
The controversy over the scoring got everybody tallking and will likely add PPV numbers to the rematch.
So maybe Adelaide Byrde isn't blind after all .. maybe a ridiculous score card from one of the judges was all part of Oscar and Loeffler's cunning plan. :lol1:
OK, man: the fact that the Mexican public was silent during the fight but eventually was booing Canelo at the end may give you the some hint about the "demographics" of those PPVs... (but I admit, I may get this all wrong...)
i think ggg made some new fans and increased his fanbase just by the way he fought...
That was the second time that Mexican fans have cheered Golovkin and booed his Mexican opponent after a fight - the first time was against Rubio.
Loeffler has been trying to "sell" Golovkin to the Mexican American fan base ever since GGG first arrived in the States.
And now I'm thinking that GGG has probably gained more Mexican fans by getting robbed against Canelo than if he'd actually beaten their Golden Boy!

Why? If golovkin has 2 ppvs that were terrible, why should one not assume canelo is the one who sold the fight? Is there more Kazakh fans in the US or Mexican?

Is this sort of like Loeffler saying "life changing money"?
Cnaelo-Cotto did 900,000 PPV.
And this is probably at the high 1,700,000. Either GGG did something in this PPV or he did not.
Exactly Canelo vs Liam Smith was pretty much Canelo by himself and that did about 200k for the 97k guys who believe Glaser for no reason other than that it makes GGG's numbers lower.
This proves exactly what others have said. GGG's previous ppv numbers were due to him fighting no names. How else do you explain significantly higher ppv numbers than Cotto? GGG does deserve more of the pot next time around

Golovkin-canelo ppv did “significantly above” 1 million... | BoxingScene Community
