I was at a bar watching the floyd Mcgregor fight and the stuff i had been hearing about floyd was amazing. Heard people call him the greatest ever and that conor did really well against the goat etc etc
Granted these are casuals but where would you place floyd P4P? I personally have him barely cracking the top 15 tbh. Hes clearly the best fighter since ray leonard but i dont think his achievements and lack of prime challengers reflects poorly against the more fire tested guys.
Think guys like Armstrong and duran who continually tested themselves fair better in these p4p lists.
all you have to do is hold both guys to the same standards. im not sure why floyd has a special no scrutiny shield on him. does he have even one win as good as leonard over benitez, duran, hearns, or hagler? imo no none of his wins are as good as those 4 so im not sure how you can put floyd aboe him simply because he didn't lose against lesser comp or beat more b level fighters. and you can do that same scrutiny to many other fighters and you will see that floyd does not match them. he tops guys like calzaghe and vitaly for sure but it seems like he gets extra "unknown" points because of the fights that didnt happen. i like to judge based on the fights that did so i cant possibly put him above guys with great wins simply because he has more good wins.
Does he have even one win as good as Roy Jones Junior in beating Toney and Hopkins. IMO at his peak Roy was more dominant. Roy should have retired after the Ruiz fight.

You couldn't figure out it was Corrales? You ever heard of auto-correct causing the wrong word to be sent out sometimes? It is just one letter difference. I think he can be forgiven.
This is so accurate. Every resume can be picked apart if you hold it up to the same scrutiny that people hold Floyd's too.
Floyd dominated boxing for two decades, few in history can say that.

Great list. Missing Duran for me.
duran is top 20 for me..his lack of success outside of 135 doesn't justify a top ten ranking. he never successfully defended any title he won outside of 135. the greats win titles and defend them.
top 20:
11. jersey joe walcott
12. charlie burley
13. pernell whitaker
14. bernard hopkins
15. jack johnson
16. aaron pryor
17. thomas hearns
18. Lennox Lewis
19. Evander Holyfield
20. Roberto Duran
Floyd is top 5 for me. All the criticism you can make about Floyd's resume, you can pick apart any ATG's resume in similar fashion if you have that agenda.
Not really a big Floyd fan but he's in the conversation as one of the very best. He's definitely the best of his era by some distance and that's really all you can be anyway.
almost all the all time greats have a least a couple great wins over prime greats....ali has liston, foreman etc...leonard has hearns, duran, etc...robinson has a bunch, floyd has....? i think its a pretty big oversight to put him in the same category as those guys.
how can yo be the best of your era when you never fouht the guys of your era until they were well past it? doesnt really seem fair....if spence were to beat floyd and pac right now does that make him the best of the era simply cause he won or is there more to it than that? you gotta fight when it matters. there is nitpicking and then there is waiting 5 years to fight guys that were recently ko'd. come on now.

Under close scrutiny his resume is great not but nothing special. Leonard fought atgd when they where at their best or close to it.
Floyd victories over morrales, castillo, hatton and marquez are very good but it isnt as good as some other ATGs.
To his credit he beat every name fighter in his era.

Hatton - I hated watching Hatton fight, just ugly. He was a good fighter but he got truly exposed against the best fighters. He also jumped up 7 lbs to fight Mayweather the only time he fought at that weight I believe.
Hatton actually won the WBA Welterweight title in 2006 but moved back down.

Corrales - this might be his best W. Not many outside boxing will realize this. Now I think Corrales probably was better after his stint in the joint but he was very good. Maybe he was a bit off the night he faced Mayweather because his life was a mess. He was heading to jail. He also struggled massively to make weight, he should never have agreed to fight at 130lbs. These are the kind of things people don't remember.
Castillo - was a top notch fighter and underrated nowadays. Easily could have won the first fight. To Floyd's credit they did again and Floyd won. I remember thinking Castillo won fight one but Floyd won two and showed to me he was the better fighter.
Hatton - I hated watching Hatton fight, just ugly. He was a good fighter but he got truly exposed against the best fighters. He also jumped up 7 lbs to fight Mayweather the only time he fought at that weight I believe. Not saying it mattered but just noting it.
Marquez was already past his prime. He also had no business fighting at that weight but money talks. One of my favorite fighters of all time. The stuff below is just what always kind of leaves a little bad taste in your mouth with Mayweather. I don't hate the guy but he definitely knew how to game the system and make himself lots of money and enhanced his resume IMO.
Read this from Wikipedia:
Because Marquez had never before fought above 135 lbs and had fought at 130 lbs as recently as March 2008, while Mayweather had campaigned at 147 lbs since 2005, the fight was scheduled to take place at a catchweight of 144 lbs to account for the size disparity between the two fighters. The fight was originally scheduled for July 18, 2009 at the MGM Grand arena but was postponed due to a rib injury sustained by Mayweather. The bout was rescheduled for September 19, 2009. During the official weigh in for their 144 lb bout, Marquez weighed in at 142 lbs and Mayweather weighed in at 146 lbs thereby incurring a financial penalty ($300,000 for each pound over 144 lbs) as he was 2 pounds over the catchweight. It was later revealed that the contract was changed a few days prior to the weigh in so that Mayweather would be allowed to weigh up to the welterweight limit of 147 lbs while avoiding paying an additional fine to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, in addition to the fine he agreed to pay to Marquez.
