I think McGreggor looked best. He had some success (amateurish) against one of the best of this era, in his ring. Nobody really expected him to win but he had the balls to try.
boxing fans expected from floyd to beat conor within 5 rounds, mma fans thought conor is going to KO him in round 4. at the end both sides were disapointed, especially mma fans who saw conor just trying to survive the full 12 rounds instead of going for the win. conor simply doesn't have the stamina of a true athlete, but he showed that he can fight even in a boxing ring.
UFC! UFC already surpassed boxing in Popularity especially with young Fans in American despite a lot of us Hardcore Fans being in Denial! I think McGregor next UFC PPV Event will be HUGE because people will be Curious!
lol, I just wasn't hanging around here to tell 500 clowns that Connor didn't have a chance, over and over, and over.
The Pac fight was ugly and ended poorly, IMO, but I'm not going to ditch boxing over another Pac controversy. Come on. :lol1:
Now that the May/Mac thing is over, I'm excited about this place getting back to real boxing talk.
I must have missed some threads. Pretty much all the ones I open can't go past 2 pages without rattles being thrown out of prams. By the time you get to page 5, you have forgotten what the thread was actually about to begin with.
Agreed, but wouldn't have minded a rematch in the Octagon though. Ah well.
Of course that will not happen. This was a one off thing. Floyd is done and Conor can go back to MMA with his profile increased. WIn win for both men and both sports IMO.
They both represented the event and their sports properly. In fact, they both did so well that the only thing people could complain about was Conor's "I made him a Mexican tonight" comment which was nothing more than outsiders not understanding what he meant.
Post fight they both gave very good interviews and handled themselves like they should.

Agreed. We just have to ride out this week and I think it should be good going forward.
......and how has global perception changed today?
Very strange fight
I wouldn't mind hearing your (serious) opinions.

Damn, I wish I could be on Mayweather's level of "broke"...
Just wait a few years, in the meantime, enjoy this coffee!

Both tried to win
Floyd knew he was old and his legs had gone and he pressed the action to get the win. He was extremely composed to the point where a lot of my friends are saying he carried conor . I'll have to watch it back.
Conor refused to go down

I'm in the same boat.
Why on earth would Floyd ever HAVE TO fight Conor in the cage? Who would make him fight Conor in the cage, the MMA karma gods? Mayweather is his own boss and nobody makes him do anything. He rarely makes stupid decisions like fighting Conor in the cage. Conor asked for this fight claiming he would easily KO Mayweather under boxing rules. Conor was wrong but he made a huge fortune. Nobody including Mayweather himself has ever claimed Mayweather would beat Conor in a cage fight. Conor is the best in the world at cage fighting. Everybody already knows that.
Gayweather is nothing but an insecure imbecile who will be broke soon.
I do not have any idols.
I hope he has to fight Conor again, in a cage, MMA rules to see him for the last time.
This is a boxing forum and we are talking about a F circus instead of talking about real fights. Why on earth would Floyd ever HAVE TO fight Conor in the cage? Floyd is no ambassador for this sport IMO. I like risk takers and Floyd minimizes risks.
If I brought along some casual friends to watch, I'd have them watch..
Crawford
Lomachenko
Canelo
Mikey Garcia
Spence Jr.
Thurman
Out of all of them, I feel Bud and Spence Jr have a chance to do something special... though.. Mikey, Canelo and Loma still can provide some "x factor" to their performances.
As for Thurman, just not liking how he's finishing fights. But his skills are there definitely.
Honestly, I think both sports gained and lost nothing. It was neutral as hell when you take everything into consideration. Conor, the younger guy out of his comfort zone loses to a guy in his comfort zone. What do you think would of happened to Floyd if he went to UFC? Most likely Conor wins it. It's just the name of the game.
Obviously Floyd was the money name and dictated the terms. He would never allow himself in a position he could lose, thus bringing over Conor to his world.
In the end, it doesn't mean Boxing is better or if Floyd went over there and lost that UFC is better. It's all about comfort zones and what you mastered your craft for.
I still prefer and will always the stand up game, exchanging punches. So my love will always be with boxing. I've turned on UFC once in awhile for the big fights and have been mildly entertained as long as they stay up, but overall, it just never grabs me the same way boxing has. To each his own.
Both had a good showing and afterwards showed respect. For everyone hating on it, every bar in the city I live in had the fight, small bars even had it, and for that alone that's impressive. It was a huge event and boxing looked good because of it. The fight was entertaining and no one at the place I was at thought it was bad. Getting to watch the PPV with friends while having some drinks and food with no cover.... was amazing. People who didn't watch boxing came out to watch a fight for the first time and enjoyed it... that's all you need to know.
People seem generally surprised/pleased by how well Conor performed in his boxing debut. I was surprised. It made boxing look a bit shabby but at least the end result was predictable.
We don't discuss it that much on this forum but the general public also hasn't forgotten that floyd is a thrice-sentenced woman-beater...
I would say Mayweather was the better Ambassador. He was calm and quiet and let his fists do the talking for the most part. Of course they both shared a million insults during the early build up to sell the fight. Mayweather didn't gloat after his KO win and gave Conor respect, calling him a tough competitor. I like Conor. He is fearless and funny but anything but an ambassador. His complete contempt and disrespect for Mayweather going into the fight was unbelievable and not the least bit ambassador like.He was going to knock Mayweather's tiny head clean off in the first round and Mayweather had no chance to win. He was going to be the new king of boxing. If Conor had won would he have been humble in victory? I think not.
