So apparently Luis Nery will be looking to defend in TJ sometime in November.
He said that the 3 possible names would be Brian Viloria, Luis Concepcion or Zolani Tete. He also mentioned his intention to fight the likes of Cuadras, Estrada, Gonzalez but admitted to being very interested in Inoue.
Nery claims he can drop to 115 and is hungry for greatness. He wants to go down as a good Mexican champion.
He admits to several mistakes he made when facing Yamanaka, but nonetheless he kept his word and finished the job in under 5 like he had predicted.
I'm excited and been excited for this kid's future. His intentions are good and he just beat the man at 118, he's even willing to drop to 115 to chase greatness. He wants the top names around him and is willing to fight fire with fire.
He is powerful, southpaw, has endurance, a good chin and the hunger to go places. 22 years old and he beat a long reigning and proud champion in Yamanaka in 4 rounds. Impressive.
I hope we get Nery vs Tete. Viloria and Concepcion would bring nothing to his name or career aside from rounds. Plus, Tete is a personal favorite of mine so it would be interesting to see how they deal with each other.
Those 2 can move up and fight Nery at 118. Maybe Estrada, but Gonzalez is too small.
Yeah.
I know.
The best option is stay in his natural division but he is searching the money and be famous fighting with the best fighters of the small weights.
Oh shyt he's only 22? Yamanaka is one helluva name to have on your resume at the age of 22. This kid is the goods.
Yep, brah.
He born in December of 1994.
He is very young and actually is the king of the division.
Here in boxingscene he won the award of the best prospect of the year 2016 and now he showed why he won.
Estrada vs Nery would be a cracker. I wouldn't know whom to root for.
I think nery's accuracy and stance would trouble Gonzalez and most likely overwhelm the smaller man.
I agree. Roman's limit is 115, he can't go any higher than that.

Definitely the goods. He's a flawed fighter, but his chin, stamina and power will always make for entertaining scraps. Been following the kid for years and im just happy to have witnessed the fall of God's left at the hands of another talented young man.

Exactly.
That's my point too.
The problem is that in 115 there are a lot of big fighters of the small weights:
Cuadras.
Gonzalez.
Estrada.
Inoue.
Plus.
Estrada is with the same promotion:
Zanfer promotions.
And they want to make a Morales vs Barrera rivalry with Nery and Estrada.

Nery just beat a p4p fighter in Yamanaka and the man at 118, in essence, he's the man at 118 now. So he should continue to do his thing at 118, not drop down to superfly, that's counterproductive. If the superflys want to challenge Nery, then they need to move up.

Do you think Nery can make Super Fly? Has he fought there before?
Yep, like 8 fights.
But is not joke down of division, it's a great risk because he can lose power and endurance.
The kid needs be patient.
He has only 22 years and he want to fight pure big sharks in a short period of time?
Nery is the contrary of Gervonta "The lover of cherry picks" Davis

Nery is a guy who should have been picked up long ago by ESPN/ShoBox or a higher profile network like those instead of being on the late saturday obscure telefutura and telemundio type cards because he was a better prospect at that time than many of the ShoBox type fighters who get higher profile fights. He belongs in better hands and deserves an HBO/Showtime type of network and already deserved that type of attention when he was a prospect and is now a champ. Never should he be back on obscure late saturday cards anymore. Done with that. On to bigger and better. I've seen him fight probably at least 6 fights so I was on that bandwagon early.
The Yamanaka fight flew way under the radar. I hope Nery gets some US tv time soon. Yamanaka took a thrashing in that 4th round. Nery's a beast.
I got a feeling HBO might take interest, especially if Romans fall from grace continues in his upcoming rematch.
Naoya is just now going to be a introduced to the US audience, HBO has begun investing in the smaller weights since the cost is less and their budget was hacked, Roman looks to be fading, Nery is growing as a formidable name, HBO freed up slots after losing TR to ESPN... I got a feeling we might see Nery sometime in the future if next month's Super Fly Card does decent to good ratings on HBO.
