Neither fighter is very mainsteam.
And most of the boxingscene type fans just wanted their guy to win by any means and have never even sparred.
Did it turn off the 10 remaining "hardcore boxing fans" who wanted to see a conclusive ending? Probably, but I don't think they've mattered in a while.
I saw a lot of mockery about the "KO" gif to the balls on twitter the next couple days, but most of the people didn't even know who the fighters in it were and just thought it was a random nut shot meme.
well said ^ ward fans are so desperate for it be a legitimate stoppage but it wasnt and despite their propaganda it will never be considered so. the tide was turning against kovalev, sure, but maybe he could have turned it back in his favour again? just like joshua klitschko. we will never know. All we do know is that it was a premature stoppage ultimately stopped by low blows.
Again, due to your inability to view anything even remotely related to Andre Ward with even a sliver of objectivity, your opinion means less than nothing. Remember you're the low life c0cksukker that accused Ward of being a wife beater, claimed to have the links to back it up the when pressed for those links produced ZERO.
One fight can't define boxing. Fans have to deal with the good and the bad. Controversial fights and decisions have been there since the sport began. Overall boxing has given us more than it's taken.
E: Fury - Klitschko.
I was at a party at a friends house. Actually convinced them to clear the room and turn the music down. Convinced a few other people to watch. Still ain't lived it down.:guilty:
:lol1::lol1:
Most definitely.
I have a few casual boxing fans who rely on me to tell them when a big fight is up. I wasn't really going to tell them about the rematch because teh first fight was so laughable but I thought, oh what the heck. They watched it and every single one of them asked, "why was the fight stopped?"
After that the conversation moved onto corruption in the sport and yet more bad taste for people looking to get into boxing.
Not as bad as some of you want to make it. Stoppage could have went better but with the amount of complaining the vocal minority around here does you'd think it was a robbery of the year candidate. News flash. It wasnt. The boxing world has moved on. Ward is p4p #1 on every major list. Kovalev lost.
Just like animes this you said is also unreal and stupid. You want it to be real so bad but it's not, public doesn't recognize that dirtbag as a real champion or respect him.
another controversial undercard and another controversial main event in a ppv called 'no excuses', really isnt a good look for boxing.
Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Ward punked your boyfriend lol
or
D- Mayweather - Pacquiao

Can't argue with that...but class A is all relative. I'd take the hopkins who beat tarver, the tarver who beat roy and pre-ruiz roy to beat ward or kovalev. These guys don't stack up to the top 175ers of past eras.
I would agree.
I don't like Kovalev and I think that mother****er got what he deserved, I'll celebrate the moment when he decides to leave boxing but if you have 19 competitive close rounds with 1# p4p fighter, you're definitely A class fighter too

Greatest lhw of all time lol...that's nsb for ya. I've looked at him the same as ggg. He looked good against the opposition he was facing, has good power, getting pushed heavily by hbo...but still didn't prove it against the best. Questions were answered about kovalev and questions will be answered about ggg when he faces canelo.

You haven't been paying attention. Seriously. Look up Kovalev threads from a year ago. People were calling him the greatest LHW of all time and few were arguing it. Wonder why he escaped the "euro bum" rep? It's because he was a boogeyman. I was one of like two guys here who raised questions about his opposition and such and people freaked the fuk out on me. Nearly everyone loved Kovalev.

No, Ward whipped his ass /thread
He did? A fight that was dead even on the scorecards through almost 3/4 of the fight Is an ass whopping?
When I think of an ass whopping I think of Tyson vs Spinks or Tyson vs Frazier. There was no ass whooping In the Ward vs Kovalev fight. Ward caught an exhausted Kovalev with a solid right and followed It up with a few borderline shots along with a low blow.
Other than that, It was a very good If not great performance by Ward.
I think it's clear that kovalev was no boogeyman.

I don't know if you're coming down with a case of the Maxi's or what, but this isn't about Golovkin and I never called Gennady a hype job.
And, Ward/KovII got great press, with people saying it was very exciting, better than the first.
I think it's clear that kovalev was no boogeyman. I just find it weird that he was largely missed with the eurobum/hypejob doe campaign. Even after kovalev lost to the first real top level fighter he's faced(hard to count hopkins), nsb wasn't overloaded with the obligatory "exposed" threads. Wait to see what happens if ggg loses to canelo.:lol1:
I'm sure ward vs kovalev 2 got it's share of good press, but let's not generalize saying it was overall great. It's a mixed bag and a lot of people were focused on the ending. I saw highlight packages that literally only showed the last 3 punches.
It got a lot of bad press. For people who didn't watch the fight and just saw highlights of the finish, it looks bad. But like someone else posted, there wasn't a whole lot of interest in the fight, so i doubt it's gonna be much of a detriment to the sport. Why is kovalev the boogeyman and ggg is an overrated hype job? Didn't kovalev also recieve the same hype and also have a thin resume?
