A few weeks ago Canadian HW David Whittom was in critical condition & now former UFC fighter turned school teacher is brain dead after being KO'd in Edmonton last night. I've seen both of these guys fight live. Hague was only a part time fighter & it's very sad this happened...
The back of the head bouncing that hard on the canvas had to be the final straw. It's tragic, the question is if it could have been prevented.
Too be honest I think it could have been. He got dropped 3 times in the 1st round & there was a slip too that could have been counted. No 3 KD rule in Edmonton so the ref let it go on. Hague use to be a pretty tough guy but he wasn't in top shape & was coming off a KO loss a couple months ago. The ref is pretty experienced & been officiating in Edmonton for a long time. I'm sure he is feeling very badly & questioning himself as Hague much like Whittom was a well liked guy in Edmonton. He is/was a school teacher moonlighting as a boxer. He was a late replacement for Paez. Very sad news in Canadian boxing only weeks after the Whittom situation...
