Between the first and second rounds Jackson was trying to give Kovalev instructions and he waved him away and pointed to some Russian dude as if to say "No I'm listening to him." The Russian dude spent the rest of the fight instructing Kovalev and Jackson remained silent after basically being demoted to the position of water boy. Was this ever explained?
Bull****. Jackson was talking for a little and then chose to keep his mouth shut. You think sergey told him don't talk? Lol.
Get educated;
"...the second half of the fight I was limited to what I could say. I don’t know why but Sergey had this guy doing all the talking, but it’s his corner and he does what he does so I left it alone."

Kovalev trained with JDJ for over 5 years, won his titles under his coaching. Just because Virgil "turtleface" Hunter talked about instability in their relationship, that doesn't mean anything. You guys love soap operas.
What does this have to do with Virgil Hunter? I think you are confused. Kovalev demoted his own trainer in the biggest fight of his life. That's not a soap opera that's reality.
That's Fake News. Just like after he posted that pic calling Stevenson a monkey he started posting pics of him with black people
Maybe they fixed their relationships. There's a reason why they keep working together.
Quite direspectfull to JDJ, I felt sorry for him.
Kovalev would not be there without JDJ.
I thought they had a good relationship,
and I thought Kovalev respected JDJ, I was wrong...
Jackson is an experienced trainer and two time work champion. Kovalev should be paying attention and get his ego out of the way.
Yeah i know he should do that but he's a hardheaded russian with not the most easy personality out there,i do agree with you,he should do that
I have to agree a 100% with you on that,Think Kovalev is maybe the most hardheaded and difficult fighter in the game now at that level, but if he loses he can't wine then if he does everything his own way

Great question. JDJ recently said he'd never seen the guy before that weekend, and didn't know he wasn't going to be allowed to speak during the fight. He expressed his frustration and asked how he's supposed to make a gameplan for a guy who isn't going to listen to him during the fight.
People can spin it however they want but it doesn't take a lot of brains to realize that it's not an optimal situation. I like Kovalev as a fighter but he seems to be extremely hard headed, to his detriment.
Sauce please.

What explanation do you want? Kovalev aparently had two trainers there and decided to listen to the Russian, for whatever reason.
Jackson is Kovalev's trainer. I've never seen a fighter all of a sudden in the biggest fight of his career decide he wasn't gonna pay attention to his trainer. And I don't remember that Russian dude taking over training duties in any of Kovalev's fights. Shyt is perplexing.

Was there ever an explanation for why Kovalev ignored JDJ during the Ward fight? | BoxingScene Community
