Article of interview where Jim Lampley states Anthony Joshua may become a bigger star than Canelo
No it doesn't. The purse comes out of the TV and gate revenue, you think it just appears out of thin air? Where are you getting the numbers from? How do you know Joshuas split but not Klitschko's? How come you didn't add the PPV money for Canelo?
Your numbers are bollocks. Joshua Klitschkos was £20/$25 and sold 1.4 mil, Canelo PPV was $70 and sold 1 mil. Canelo's draw ****'s all over Joshua's.
As I stated I cut and pasted, not my numbers, dude said the Canelo numbers are official
I wanna know the difference between the UK and US PPV breakdown, for example Sky pays for all of the promotion and production of the event out of their 50%, wondering if the same applies to US PPV
I think Jim is being honest as he sees it. Also, on this week's The Fight Game, Max Kellerman said that Joshua/Klitschko was the greatest event he has ever covered, then said that Alvarez/GGG 'wasn't going to be the biggest fight in history, not the best middleweight fight or biggest fight in 10 years'. Again I believe he believes it all to be true. he's glorifying Joshua contracted to Showtime and running down HBO's largest PPV match this year. I hope the Joshua hype is doing what they think will be good for boxing. Joshua is good 19-0 probably the best HW out there but he's only had 19 bouts, when he cleans out the HW division and over 30 fights then talk greatness. There is definitely some Kool-Aid going around HBO Sports studio, other than honesty there may be something fishy since Golden Boy wants Joshua and his ties are with HBO.
I see this on another forum, dude was sceptical, but some of the numbers do add up
Canelo vs Chavez
Fight Purse: $8 Mil*(Canelo $5M, Chavez $3M)
TV & Gate: $19.5 Mil*(Canelo $14.5M, Chavez $5M)
Total Income: $27.5 Mil*(Canelo $19.5M, Chavez $8M)
Claimed*total including additional sponsorship & merchandising: Canelo $30 Million, Chavez - Cant Find
Joshua vs Wlad
Fight Purse: £10 / $13 Mil*(Joshua £5 / $6.5M, Wlad £5 / $6.5M)ģ
TV & Gate: £20 / $26 Mil*(Joshua £10 / $13M, Wlad £10 / $13M)
Total Income: £30 / $39 Mil*(Joshua £15 / $19.5M, Wlad £15 / $19.5M)
Claimed*total including additional sponsorship & merchandising: Joshua £42 / $54.5 Million, Wlad - Cant Find
Dude can go for that Tiger Woods money, if he gets into that revenue stream hes untouchable, Woods made a billion off endorsements, if he taps that things get mental
Not really. Lewis, Klitschko, Holmes etc weren't bigger stars than guys in lower weights. From the 80s onwards Tyson and maybe Holyfield are the only HW's that you can say were the biggest stars.
Tyson was definitely the largest draw of the Heavyweights. Holyfield did well. Lewis actually had very respectable PPV numbers in the U.S.
Granted De La Hoya had great, big PPV numbers, but check this out:
Lewis vs Grant - 350,000 PPV buys
Lewis vs Tua - 420,000 PPV buys
Lewis vs Rahman 2 - 460,000 PPV buys
That's U.S. numbers, HBO PPV
The Klitschko's no one gave a damn about here in the U.S. and there was no one in the division but them.
During their reign the Klitschko's produced only 1 PPV here in the U.S. and the numbers were so bad HBO never had them on PPV again
(Vitali) Klitschko vs Williams - 120,000 PPV buys
HBO lost $2 million dollars
Larry Holmes was in between the Ali and Tyson era
Where as Lewis benefitted from being in the Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe era

They were all big stars but I would agree they were not bigger than SRL, Floyd and ODH.
Showtime got him signed up in the states doe right??
He's being sincere in answering the questions but I'm surprised Jim Lampley would state that publicly. Canelo is an HBO fighter and Joshua is a Showtime fighter.
I don't see why this is surprising. If you have an exciting , dominant HWT champion they are almost always a bigger draw than guys at the lower weights.
