Boxing fans love hyperbole, don't take things so literal. Now people do show a huge lack of respect if a fighter doesn't fit inside the box of what they think of as a quality fighter which includes but is not limited to the amount and type of loses a guy has. There are many ways to be an excellent fighter. Not everyone can go the same routes and being an effective fighter can take all kinds of forms. The OP doesn't sound very open minded though so while there is a point to what he said he certainly isn't making it stand up.

Since the Mayweather era, people love to harp on losses. Then, those same people turn around and question why the best aren't fighting the best. If Sugar Ray Robinson and Ali have losses on their record, that should tell you all you need to know. When you routinely fight the best, you WILL lose at some point, but the fans will always respect a fighter with heart who continually puts his balls on the line to prove he is the better man REGARDLESS of how many losses that fighter takes.
