So the fight we all wanted to see got announced last night, but after initially wanting the fight, I don't seem too fazed, Its more of a "meh" now...
I don't think its going to be a great fight like we all expect, Its going to get loaaddss of hype so expecting at least 2 articles a day on it, and I've a feeling it's just going to be a big let down.
Personally I think canelo will win on decision, but that's not because GGG is past his prime (which will be the biggest excuse if he loses) he can't go from being "the best boxer ever" to "past his prime" in less than a year,.
I dunno, I just taught I'd be more hyped for this fight and now I'm just "meh" don't really care who wins kinda thing.
I'm surely not the only person to be thinking this?
People first started talking about this fight in 2013. That's four years! It's fucked up that this has become the new normal. Fights like Kovlev-Ward that came together pretty quickly are rare exceptions. Almost every other significant match-up gets dragged out to the point where you're tired of the arguments by the time the fight happens.
I tune out of the day-to-day stuff these days as far as these never-ending 'negotiations' go. It kills your enjoyment of the sport and most of it is meaningless anyway. But Canelo-GGG went on so long it was hard to do that. When it gets to the point where there are 20 different threads on whether this or that aspect of a contract offer is fair, you just have to walk away from it.
For someone who has witnessed as many big fights as I have over the last decade as the fight gets closer and you start to envision the weigh in and especially when that bell rings for round one..... You'll get amped. You can't help it.
I'm not convinced it's happening even now and I am tired of talking about both of them now that the cake has been in the oven for years. I hope they knock each other out.
It's because GGG is boring AF outside the ring. He's like a robot that's programmed to repeat the same phrases over and over again. This promotion will stale and we all know it. But when it's fight week, then the excitement will come out.
All of Canelo's biggest fights have been duds. Mayweather, Cotto, Jr, all duds. What makes you think this will be any different? When has Canelo ever been in a great back and forth war? Or lil g either for that matter? Name the most exciting, competitive fight either guy has been in.
They're just not the "Mexican style" warriors we want them to be. Canelo is more of a measured boxer, and lil g was overhyped and now washed. Both looked great feasting on inferior/smaller opponents (Lopez, Kirkland, Khan, Stevens, Wade, Brook) but have lost or put up lackluster points wins when they've stepped up the competition (Mayweather, Lara, Cotto, Jacobs).
This will be a boring, tactical, 12 round decision. Canelo, Oscar, lil g, and Loeffler will be laughing all the way to the bank after another successful Ponzi scheme.
A little less buzzed than i thought i would be.
A couple of years back i was chomping at the bit for the fight, but a long time of back and forth takes the fun out of things a little. As had been the case with other fights in the past.
It's a big fight though, one of the biggest in boxing, and a 50/50 kind of fight, so i'm sure excitement will really pick up across the board as September draws near.
That's boxing these days. You have to wade through so much bullshit to see a good fight you've lost interest by the time you get it.
I agree with this. The fact that this fight took this long to make is indicative of the arsing around it takes before the big fights get made. It is tiresome.
But 2017 has been good to us so far. I think the powers that be and top boxers knew that they gave the sport a real kicking in 2016, a real kicking. Last year I dropped the level of boxers I was watching just to see competitive fights. Because 'elite' boxing served up some ropey matches.
Surely nobody who likes boxing wants to see Canelo beat Liam Smith and Amir Khan, or GGG smash a welterweight's face in. It is like watching someone swat flies with a hammer. It is poor sport.
Yeah I don't feel as excited as I thought I would be but that will change come end of August/beginning of September.
2 weeks before a big fight is when my fan boy mode usually switches on.
Well we knew it was going to happen sometime so why get excited?
You'll be excited a day before the fight for sure.
Its just a long way off yet. I'm excited for brook and spence
You're feeling that way because we got such a shhhty ass fight last night with Chavez jr.... I was irritated by the end of that fight, that the actual GGG-Canelo announcement didn't seem so exciting... had The fight been more competitive with Canelo knocking out Chavez Jr. Then it would have got everyone pumped for GGG ... regardless, everyone's looking forward to this super fight!
War GGG / War Canelo !!!
Mexican style!!!!!
