The link was great, thx OP http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2017/1/13/14259380/golden-boy-haymon-pbc-lawsuit-more-financials-surface-boxing-news
"In 2015, Canelo was far and away Golden Boy’s most profitable fighter, earning the promotion income of $4,415,306 according to Deetz’s spreadsheet. Golden Boy’s second most profitable fighter that year, Luiz Ortiz, brought in a comparatively paltry $307,309. The first half of 2016 was similar with Canelo earning Golden Boy income of $2,988,256, Amir Khan earning the promotion $449,046, Francisco Vargas making them $238,250, and every other fighter earning Golden Boy income of $61,000 or less. And most boxers on Golden Boy’s roster are money losers. In the first half of 2016, Golden Boy earned negative net income on 142 of 155 boxers (91.6%). Only 13 of 155 boxers (8.4%) made Golden Boy positive net income.
Deetz’s numbers reveal just how incredibly valuable Canelo Alvarez might be to Golden Boy’s bottom line. From 2014 through the first half of 2016, it appears that Golden Boy had combined income from boxing operations of $16,321,659 and Canelo accounted for 10,460,885 of it, or 64.1%. But even this doesn’t reveal the true extent of Golden Boy’s reliance on Canelo since it also appears that Mayweather made the promotion over $2 million in 2014. After Mayweather split with Golden Boy and Haymon bought out his boxers, Canelo accounted for 94% of Golden Boy’s income from boxing operations in 2015 and 107% in the first half of 2016, according to Bloody Elbow’s calculations of financial records in the Deetz’s report."
The rematch would be huuuuge, Canelo's biggest fight since Mayweather. They could even get a trilogy out of it if it was controversial or competitive. That's a ton of $$$. If this happened, then why would Canelo need to fight GGG?
If he loses they sign a rematch and try to make a trilogy.
They always have a Cotto rematch, a dream match with Pacquiao if they can agree to the weight. They can fight Jacob's, there is a number of options they have.
What would GBP do? Realize they overdid their waiting games with GGG and lost a ton of money, but they still wouldn´t admit it. Trying to save face by having an immediate rematch.
Depends on how he'd get beat
not just in regards to Canelo-GGG, but for the company as a whole?
If it's a great fight, with Alvarez fading late (possibly even being stopped or losing on the cards), Alvarez fought over his head (was coming up from 154lbs), Golden Boy will target a rematch or Billy Joe Saunders, and go about their business.
If Alvarez gets bowled over in 5 rounds, Alvarez himself will say that 164lbs was simply too big, they'll likely target David Lemieux next, and they'll continue going about their business.
Alvarez is a big enough star at this point that his rep can stand a defeat; if he were to get washed in back-to-back fights, we'd have a real conversation
Rematch.
Upsets happen and people love them. Of course many fans will be happy if this scenario happened and Canelo/GBP will look like the evil empire got what they had coming, on top of the $8.5 million dollar loss to his former promoter and the whole GGG duck thing.
This is why Canelo has to win, they've been taking L after L outside of the ring. They have to win this and follow up the momentum by signing to fight GGG in September.
not just in regards to Canelo-GGG, but for the company as a whole?
I expect they pull hopkins out of retirement to pad canelos record then offer ggg less money because canelo will have beaten an all time great.
Do you think that ODLH has sex with Canelo? Like, he gets into his fishnet stockings then piledrives Canelo's rectum?
I'm asking for a friend.
Yes i do sir...yes i do.
There would be a rematch on Mexican independence weekend in Sept probably in Mexico City in front of 90,000+ fans. In other words, it's a win-win situation for Canelo !!
not just in regards to Canelo-GGG, but for the company as a whole?
It's a loss and he is young he can bounce back. Why do so called boxing fans think if a guy loses it's over?
I'm still surprised people think Chavez Jr has a chance. This is like a 63/35 in Canelo's favor type of fight for me.
65/35 at best, too. I'd say more likely 80/20. And the only reason I give him a 20% chance is because of the size difference.
They sit down and have a good cry. Then they start being very thrifty with their money because harder times are here for them. They have other good fighters but Canelo is their main money maker. A loss to Chavez would cut his money making potential at least in half and maybe more.
