Canelo-GGG NOT happening in September, but in May...

lol it's never been about fighting on the actual day specifically May 5th or September 16th. It's always been about fighting on the weekend of "cinco de mayo" which is not even celebrated in Mexico because it was just the victory of the battle of Puebla, or the weekend of september 16 which is the actual Mexican Independence Day. By this logic Chavez, De La Hoya, Barrera, Morales, Marquez would only fight every 5 years back in the day.. No they wouldn't. They would obviously still fight on the weekend but I just thought it would be bigger if it landed on the 5th. And I didn't know that the actual Mexican Independence Day was the 16th. I was obviously wrong and will own up to that since the fight was announced this past weekend. I'm salty enough already lol. I just thought it would make more sense to wait cuz they were already delaying it for two years now.

Mexico's Independence Day...the most important national holiday in Mexico is celebrated on September 16...which is the scheduled date for the fight. I'm pretty sure they will stick to the plan.

Do you guys REALLY think the fight is gonna happen in September? Cuz everybody on here is talking like it is. You guys must now own a calendar. The REAL Cinco de Mayo hasn't fallen on a Saturday in five years. It won't just be the Cinco de Mayo weekend fight. It will be the actual Cinco de Mayo fight. Its like calling a fight the Fourth of July fight and having it take place on the 6th. It makes no sense a couple days after the actual holiday. The atmosphere is completely different than it is on the actual holiday which the date falls on. Canelo-Golovkin --- May 5th, 2018 Oscar must not own a calendar then.

So if you and another guy were building a house together and you were responsible for 85% of the work and expertise to build that house and it brought in a 100k price, you would give your partner 33%? BULLSHYE! The Canelo/Chavez Jr fight will bring in better numbers than a Canelo/g string fight will. Simple economics. Like it or not, Canelo will make serious money no matter who he fights. With two PPV flops already under his belt, g string just can't say that. Floyd took the short money vs Oscar in order to become a PPV star. Canelo took the short money vs Floyd in order to become a PPV star. Is it really too much to ask g string to take the short money (is 15 million short money?) in order to become a PPV star? You are right. If the $15 million dollar offer to Golovkin is indeed real and not just talk from Oscar, than he would be a fool not to take it. But lets not exaggerate here. Canelo wouldn't be carrying 85%. Like I said, it takes two big names to do big numbers. Who else could Canelo (or Golovkin) fight that would bring in as many PPV numbers as their fight will? The answer is nobody. Maybe if Canelo fought Pacquiao but that won't happen as Canelo is saying he will be fighting at 160 from now on and Pacquiao was recently talking about fights at 140. Too much of a size difference. And idk dude. I don't see Canelo-Chavez Jr. doing more PPV sales than Canelo-Golovkin. The reason being because the Chavez Jr. fight just came out of the blue whereas they've been building up the GGG fight for over a year now and it will probably be another year before the fight takes place, if it even does at all.

GGG is the only name around his weight division that will boost those numbers and you surely have to acknowledge that fact. No. Just no, everything about this is just wrong. No one cares if it lands on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday; Cinco de Mayo is just an excuse to get together and throw a party on the weekend. I'm sure Oscar De La Hoya and most other promoters would disagree. More families will be getting together and getting drunk that weekend to celebrate and I'm sure many will order the fight as a source of entertainment to please their guests.

Why would Canelo keep the trinket that would mandate that his opponent (g string) would get 33% of the purse when it's Canelo that brings the financial clout to this fight? Why not trash the trinket, make the fight later and have the purses reflect both fighters drawing power? Using this scenario $15 million is actually over paying g string. Btw, did you ever come up with the link that backs up your post when you accused Andre Ward of being a wife beater? I definitely see Canelo David in September and GGG in May. The difference will be that the fight had been agreed upon already for May so people don't lose their ****.

team canelo never intended for the fight to happen this year, all that garbage they spewed last year about definitely fighting ggg in 2017 was just that, garbage. canelo and his team are pathetic, hopefully chavez pulls off the upset on saturday. So team g string turned down a 15 million dollar offer but it's team Canelo that spews garbage? Just like we all get together on the 4th of July. More people will be together on the 5th of next May and will probably result in more people ordering the PPV as a source of entertainment. Welcome to the forum. And Alvarez vs Ramirez have had sparring sessions before. Who is "bigger," Chavez Jr. or Ramirez? And how different is a young fresh Alvarez vs Abraham's frame size? Think about it. Do you see Ramirez bending to one of Canelo's catchweights or coming all the way down to 160 for the fight? Think about that cuz its NOT gonna happen. So indeed, he will be bigger.

The answer may be correct but your math is all wrong. Nobody cares about it falling on the exact day. People celebrate it on the weekend. If it happens in May, it's done so that it plays to Canelo's favor. It's looking like they've already set up the smokescreen with the WBC/WBO thing, along with roadblocking the GG/Saunders fight so that Canelo can fight Saunders in Sept. Then, when another birthday has passed for Golovkin, they can fight him next May. Could all be a conspiracy theory but it sure looks like its coming together they way. Yes, that roadmap is looking like a good possibility! Golovkin should have taken the Saunders fight when he had the chance!!

I have to agree with you. No way Canelo and GB had any intention of fighting Golovkin this year. And if people think Canelo will outbox Golovkin think again. Golovkin has one of the best jabs in the business. We all saw what Mayweather did to Canelo and what Golovkin did to Lemieux with that jab. Still its a fantasy fight. Joke. Exactly!!!!! If they scoop the Saunders fight I will personally strangle Tom Loeffler myself. I THINK, just imo, that Saunders is such a nobody, that GBP is not willing to buy his belt the same way that K2 is. GBP tried to do Saunders on an undercard and Saunders let that opportunity slip. I think they rematch Chavez if it is at all close, or Lemieux if not. In fact I am calling Lemieux crashing the ring post fight or the press conference post fight, and then Canelo "has" to punish his disrespect, blah blah, kicking GGG till May. Classic wrestling promotion. I didn't even know Lemieux was on the card until yesterday. Seems like an odd place to put him other than building up a Canelo fight, as you said. Says a lot about this fight when few are talking about who will win, we're all talking about what Canelo does next.
