I thought kovalev won a close decision, but a robbery it was not. The thing is, nobdy who scored it 114-113 for ward wants to entertain the idea of a couple rounds going the other way either. I watched it a couple times and just found it a little hard to find 7 rounds for ward. I'm sure if i looked hard enough and overanylized the sh*t out of it, i could...but that's not how fights are scored. Just like the guys who complain about the judges decision and use some slow mo videos to bolster their argument, it's just not realistic. That's why i find the whole "i watched it 17 times and the first 16 i scored this way, but that 17th time is the definitive score" hilarious. Like i watched the fight more times than you so my score is more legit.
Boxing scoring is subjective. If you don't have the ability to accept differences of opinion and the fact that fight scores are a range and not exact, you will drive yourself crazy and look like a clown. Luckily your one of the few people that "gets it".
And even then, we get numerous shots at trying to arrive at the right score. The judges are ringside and get one crack at it.
Considering that, I don't know how anybody can be upset with the decision. There were no outrageous 118-110 or 116-112 scorecards. They were perfectly reasonable given the way the fight played out.
LOL. They don't like this thread because it exposes how differences in opinion on 1-2 rounds can change the decision. It doesn't fit into their "Kovalev was robbed agenda". Even the "75% of the media" argument is shot down because most of those guys had the fight razor thin.

The funny thing is Floyd fans have had to endure the countless "The Official Who Really Won: Mayweather vs Castillo" threads for over a decade, over and over again. Nobody gets tired of it, everyone joins in, nobody decides to just bump an old Mayweather-Castillo thread, they HAVE to make a new one. Yet a fight that just happened 5 months ago is already old news and it shouldn't be talked about.
That's true...but it's also true that those threads get just as much criticism as any real discussion. We just had one of these threads the other day, and people posted their scorecards and were told it had to be round by round. Is anyone really going back and watching the fight again? Then they'll act like it's some type of vindication that people won't bother posting round by round...like it means they never watched the fight or something. At this point, nobody is deviating from their score.

You don't enjoy discussing great, razor thin, close fights between elite fighters?

Why even make the thread? The fight was months ago and there's been a bunch of these threads already.

You act like Kov didn't dominate the first half.
No way Ward won 8 rounds in that fight.
He didn't have to win 8 rounds to win the fight, just 7 rounds.
Depends what dominating is for you. I didn't see either fighter dominate anything.
I've always said this fight could've gone either way, i've never told anyone they're wrong on having Kovalev winning. What's wrong is calling it a robbery.
Saying Ward could not have won 7 rounds in that fight is really showing you only go for one fighter and no matter what, you'd always have that fighter winning barring a KO. Rounds 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11 could be given to Ward. Rounds 4, 6 and 12 were close, these rounds I think it depends on who you go for really because that's how NSB scores close rounds, based on who they like or who they want to win, leading to some posters saying Kovalev won as many as 10 rounds (daggum).
I think boxingscene livescore scores fights fairly, in fact perfectly. Gonzalez - Draw - Rungvisai, GGG over Jacobs 114-113, Thurman over Garcia 115-113, Frampton - Draw - LSC rematch. They gave Ward 7 rounds to 5, 114-113.
I've done this countless times but ok
Kov rounds 1-4
ward round 5
Kov round 6
Ward rounds 7-9
Kov round 10
Ward round 11
Kov round 12
115-112 kov
And I didn't find it hard to score
I'm trying to find my scorecard, but i'm pretty sure this is exactly how I had it
Lets see how you scored it!!!!!!!!!!
they wont...i made a thread where we all shared our cards, months ago....all the trolls were missing
the real fans had some good cards regardless of who they scored it for.
no wide robbery claims either
The point here was that there could be made a case (strong or not) for Ward winning at least one of the first 6 rounds.
I gave ward one of the first 6 too but it's not close if the guy the wins even round that follows.
It's really this simple. Rounds 3 and 12. Give them to Ward it's 114-113 for Ward. Give them to Kovalev, it's 115-112 for Kovalev. Split them then it's 114-113 for Kovalev.
That's how close this fight was.
Out of interest how did you score Rd 10?
As I recall it, I had it for Kovalev when he won round 10. After that it was impossible for Ward to win without KD's.
I had it a close fight, so don't really have a problem with the decision per se.
BUT:
How the hell the judges scored round 10 for Ward is the biggest travesty for me. That one doesn't sit good with me at all.
The bolded is what bugs me the most as well. I had it 114-113 for Kovalev, but I have no real problems with the outcome because there were definitley a few swing rounds. That said, the 10th was'nt one of them.
what are you talking about?
How did you give round 3 to Ward? I already posted the video (you left that thread liek a rat jumping ship).
Kov is the only guy that lands a combination that whole round. Ward lands 2 jabs. Kovalev matches that. Ward constantly nacks up. Kov comes forward. Ward lands a lepaing left hook. KOv dismisses is and ocntinues his attack.
By the end of that round, Ward has landed a grand total of 4 power shots. Kovalev 16 (I think, or was it 11 I can't remember).
So, how did Ward win that round again?
I never said my scorecard is fact. What I do maintain is that it is impossible to score the fight for Ward, just based on the deficit following the first 6 rounds.
I also add that the vast majority of the boxing viewing public and people involved in scoring fights on a regular basis, writing for esteemed outlets have agreed with me. If that irks you, let it be so.
OK....so I repeat
"Reasonable boxing fans should have scores ranging from 115-112 Kovalev to 114-113 for Ward.
Biased fans like soul_survivor believe their opinion is gospel and try to pretend like their scorecards are facts when they are just like any other fan scoring the fight."
Nothing I said is incorrect. The "vast majority" of the viewing public had the score within the range I believe is reasonable.
