Lol @ everyone choosing the racist Hunter.
What racist acts has Hunter performed? I'm genuinely interested in knowing because it would change my opinion of him, assuming you're not being a twat and making that up.
If he's a racist I'd like to know about it.
All-time, Manny Steward, for sure. Modern; Hunter, strictly for the fact that he's very cerebral. I've never had a boxing coach like that (unfortunately) but my jiujitsu coach was a psychological master and even has a side biz as a sports psychologist. Training with him was amazing because I'm a very analytical person. I've got to know the nuts and bolts of how and why we do things.
Garcia seems like a fun guy to train with though.
This. Wasn't until I tabbed Hunter on the options I wanted to go back and tab Steward.
Out of the last Virgil. Ward isn't the most physically gifted fighter but you can see he has been drilled the nuances of the sport. You drill, you spar, you fight.
Obviously Steward if we're talking all time, but for modern trainers, I'll go against the grain and say Reynoso or Sanchez.
Sanchez' fighters are generally high quality and supremely conditioned. He wont make too many world class fighters, but he'll make you into a good contender without a problem, everything else is up to you.
And Reynoso because I really like what he has done with Canelo. I see improvements in Canelo's skills every single time he fights. He has Canelo's respect, keeps a low profile, and makes good adjustments in the corner during the fight.
Floyd Sr or Nacho ,if we are talking about Cus ,you need to be right fighter cuse he was teaching one style and not everybody is Tyson or Patterson
Throw Jose Torres in there as well, Cus trained him also.
Peter Fury.. I think you need to be the right kind of fighter, a 'fighting man' to get his best really, but he knows his stuff, this is the man that put a game plan together to beat klitschko, in germany, by decision, without a single knock down.. I just like his vids, he talks sense
I think with all trainers, there isnt a 'best' per se, but a best combination of boxer & trainer maybe. Everyone has their own style of fighting and a boxer probs shouldn't look to change it, but find a good coach to maximise and exploit it.
Lomachenko is a decent pick, does he train Usyk and Gvosdyk in the pro's too? He was national team coach, and his philosophy on getting Vasyl to learn dancing told me this guy is seeing the game different. Language barrier is definitely a problem in the heat of the corner in a tough fight..
Good one. What little I know of Cus fascinates me though I only know of him through things that Mike has said, and a couple of his understudies. I should probably do some reading about Cus.
Another All Time trainer I was thinking of besides Steward and D'Amato was Lou Duva, though I'd probably still choose D'Amato or even Steward over him, but Lou Duva was another one that came to mind.
One thing I always remember during the Chavez-Taylor fight and Jim Lampley says, "You're going to watch Lou Duva goes crazy now, you're going to watch Lou Duva goes absolutely beserk."
And when they took him out of the ring on a stretcher after the Bowe-Golota riot in Madison Square Garden.
Memories!
