Another great Hancho production video that I want to share.
Good timestamps:
2:10
2:55
3:05 - famous Cotto counter
3:45 - counter jab
4:15 - beautiful exchange
6:45 - drops Smith w uppercuts
7:00 - counter from hell lands on Cotto
8:15 - playing with Trout
8:45 - wobbles Khan with a left hook
10:00 - accurate punch drops Kirland
I like his hand speed & body work, he has picked up good counter punching skills too something he was not good at before he fought Floyd.. The only fact that he needs to improve on is his being quick on his feet & cutting off the ring..
He is a "slickster". Or is that only for blacks and runners?
Good share TS.
I'm not going to explain basic boxing terminology again. If you think Canelo is a slickster, then thx for the lulz.
Good post, Jozef. It's always baffled me how overlooked Canelo's skills are. Maybe it's because he's stereotyped as a Mexican fighter, because he got worked by Mayweather, because he has power and is stocky, but the guy's skills are tremendously undervalued by the fans. Not that he's a "slickster", but he's far more technical and talented than he gets credit for.
There's a lot of science, psychology, and preparation in that kid's game.

He doesn't get a lot of credit for the Cintron bout. That's at least two of Shield's soldiers in there with Nelo. It's safe to say that Hatton was rattled by Nelo's power that it alone spooked him at considering 154 lol. This wasn't even Nelo's real power yet. It was only a year before that he moved up several pounds to fight Jose Cotto. When Alvarez came into the ring with Baldomir he looked like a seasoned classic Mexican fighter, not so toned, just naturally well fit. Meaning, Nelo wasn'T looking like a Jermall Charlo. It was the Cintron bout where Alvarez transitioned perfectly at 154. Any doubts? That was 2011 vs 2010 that he moved up to Super Welterweight.
Nelo's grown and settled to be a stocky dude, like a Stevens and Kirkland, just more athletic and flexible along with Ring IQ. When HBO started with Nelo, with RJJ and Kellerman, they kept on saying he wasn't your traditional Mexican boxer by style and power.
5 fights at a CW didn't help IMO.
Nelo is the true CW king, probably has the record...
He's tremendous.
Probably the most under valued superstar and top level fighter in recent years.
Under valued and the ginger cash cow in the same sentence?
Congrats bro

no, no he does not....wait why would he?
It's all about how a fighter and his skills are matched. Canelo is a good fighter when matched with opponents who come to fight. He did well against brawlers like Kirkland and Lopez but also did well against boxers such as Cotto and Trout. He has trouble with movers and clinchers like Lara and Floyd who fight from a safe distance. This is why I think his fight with Chavez Jr. will be entertaining and competitive. Two boxer-punchers who will enter the ring with no distinct advantage over the other. I give Canelo the edge but it won't be an easy fight. His performance will also influence negotiations with GGG if he doesn't look great against Chavez.
