I love martinez but he he was always a little overrated. he struggled against barker macklin and lost to murray lets be real here
He coasted against macklin and Barker and when he decided to turn it in, he stopped both. Both men were title contenders and mack arguably beat sturm and Barker won the ibf.
He didn't do well against Murray but he didn't lose. Even Murray would tell you that, specifically how he couldn't finish the fight off. For martinez he was already severely past his best.
There's no overeating the best mw of his time.
I had him winning that first Williams fight.
Top 5 favorite fighters of all time.
Me too. Those scores were awful. I remember the cintron fight too where he was robbed of a ko then got a bs md... He had some tough luck.
Glad to see all the love for my favourite fighter.
He had the most exciting fights. Started strong, his opponents would get the upperhand in the mid rounds and then he'd kick it into an insane gear to the end for the KO.
Always carried himself respectfully. All heart and skills to match.
Late bloomer and overachiever, but he was the real-deal for the golden moment when he was champ and healthy.
negative? the fuvk? mofos cant ask a question on here anymore.
you said his style takes a lot of energy out of him so im just wondering what that style is.
My bad. I'm just saying moving like that for 12 rounds requires a lot of energy. Especially in the Chavez fight where he was outweighed by so much and Chavez kept coming and coming. He had his flaws but he was just a great, well conditioned athlete
what's his style?
Got damn y'all are so fvcking negative. He relied on his feet a lot, used a lot of feints, slip counters and relied on his reflexes to bait you in and set up his counter shots.

What's real is Middleweight isn't even his real weight class. It's like GGG moving up to 168 and struggling a bit but still coming out on top. Martinez could of stayed 154 his whole career but non wanted to fight him there.
i did but you keep responding back like you confused like kfc is out of chicken or something.
GGG is about to be 35..if he fights till 38 lets hope he loses to a HOF like Cotto and not a scrub...ya'll dig your own damn graves on here
From about 2008, posisbly 2007 till 2012, Martinez was the second most dynamic fighter on the planet, after Pacquiao ofc. He had exceptionally movement, exceptional reflexes (For a guy already into his 30s, its rare that a fighter based on reflexes keeps them so long) and he could punch. Boy could he punch! He cut up Pavlik, annihilated Williams...arguably beat him first time and all the hwile he won in entertaining fashion.
When people talk about movement and punching at the same time, they should watch Martinez, none of this running crap peddled by certain fighters today.
It's just a shame that so little os his prime was showcased on TV and so little of it was at world level. STill, in a very short period of time, he was arguably one of the best fighters of the 21st century and one of the best middlweights ever.
Insert Martinez into any 160 era and he comes out in top 3 or 4 every time.I love martinez but he he was always a little overrated. he struggled against barker macklin and lost to murray lets be real here
If someone showed you that KO of Williams and told you that's what put Paul in a wheelchair for life without knowing about his motorcycle accident, you'd believe it. That's how bad that KO was.
yep...........

so he lost to cotto. that's all. chill foo.
he probs got a career high pay day vs cotto. He knew he was done, Knee supports etc.
He was done, he was fighting at i think 38 and he relied on athletism.
Its hard at them weightclasses to stay good that old.
He wasnt brutally KO'd and at 147 he was weight drained, i think he's 5'11 with shoes on.
like a few legends, he lost his last fight. He left a legacy.
hope to hell he aint gay.
