Standard procedure is to have the lineal champion stripped as soon as he moves to another division. Canela did exactly that. He moved to the 154 lb division from the 155 lb division. On top of that, by most reasonable arguments, he is now the lineal champ. After Canelo won it from Cotto, he moved out of the division to fight for a belt at another weight. He is now fighting a second time outside of the middle weight division. Most boxing pundits will tell you that ends the lineal line. So how is the new line reestablished? By the number 1 in a division fighting the number 2. Oh wait, that just happened. At the end of the day we're all hoping that Canelo Golovkin gets made so that there is no dispute. That's the way it works.
