GGG fans will have a real headache trying to justify Golovkin getting the no 1 p4p ranking after what happened last night. Barely beat Jacobs, and deep down inside alot of them know the decision was dodgy. So, can we admit that Ward is a superior p4p boxer than Golovkin considering that Kovalev was ranked higher than Jacobs?
Ward gets more credit..
Moved up in weight
Kovolev > Jacobs
Ward was severely hurt and dropped early
Ggg didn't deal with any of those things vs Jacobs
The obvious, true answer is that Loma, our lord and saviour, is #1 P4P.
However, for those who can't deal with that, then the answer is Kovalev. Kovalev beat a legitimate top P4P fighter when he beat Ward.
Ward and GGG are fighting it out for the next rung down. The question is whether Ward narrowly losing to a top P4P champion is worth more than GGG narrowly beating the #2 guy in his division.
I think Ward has to be given the edge there, because checking his whole body of work and he was a lot more depth to his resume than GGG does.
So the top 10 P4P now goes like this:
1) Loma
2) Vacant
3) Vacant
4) Kovalev
5) Vacant
6) Ward
7) Golovkin
8) Gonzales
9) Crawford
10) Mikey Garcia

While I do still have Ward higher than Golovkin on a P4P list, this argument does paint the full picture.
Golovkin dropped his man and landed 50 more punches. Ward was dropped and outlanded by Kovalev, but still won. Danny was also huge compared to Golovkin. I'm not buying the whole "190 lbs" Khandashian drama, but Danny was visibly bigger than Golovkin. To me, Golovkin being the aggressor against a bigger dude is very impressive.
Lastly and this is purely subjective, while I do think that Sanchez' plan against Jacobs was all wrong, the version of Jacobs that boxed last Saturday was a DAMN good fighter. I personally didn't rate Jacobs that highly. He usually got careless and wild, but the tight, quick version of Jacobs we saw was a very solid fighter. In my opinion, that was a P4P fighter in Jacobs.

Ward went up in weight to challenge him self vs a p4p monster, ggg just fought jacobs who was droped by f***ing sergio mora...
I don't see how anyone is saying Jacobs won, Geegg clearly won the fight, people just thought that Jacobs glass chin wouldn't hold up, Jacobs held his own and we see Geegg isn't this invincible boogy man when matched up with a decent opponent, at the end of the day Jacobs is the #2 in the division so a close fight isn't bad.... but gggee is tough as nails and proved hes worth some of the hype, why I still don't consider him the best middle weight ever he is the real deal.

LOL....Kovalev dropped Ward, outlanded him, 70% of viewers felt Kovalev won the fight. Ward wins a fraudlike, suspect UD over the resident champ.
GGG dropped Jacobs, outlanded him, landed at a higher %, and won a deserved UD over a game opponent as the resident champ.
I don't see how anything is "dodgy" at all. What basis did you award Jacobs the fight? Getting outjabbed by almost 100 jabs, getting dropped, landing less punches than your opponent in 75% of the rounds, or connecting at a lower % than your opponent in 67% of the rounds?
I curious to know by what mysterious basis Jacobs was robbed?
What is this constant obsession with GGG being a hype job. He is 37 and 0 with 33 KO's. He just won a UD against the number 2 rated MW in the division.
Jacobs came into the fight with a significant height, reach ,weight (looked like a LHW) & age advantage. Even with all this working in his favor he was still out thrown, out landed and out boxed. Golovkin was more accurate in 9/12 rounds. He rocked Jacobs several times and knocked him down once. How can you describe Golovkins defence are terrible when Jacobs, who is known for his punching power didnt hurt or bother GGG once ?
GGG cant be P4P number one.. He has no defense he is not slick, sharp, fast he has just power. One dimensional fighter cant be p4p. Maaaaaaan
He out-boxed jacobs, who is taller, faster and has more reach. GGG landed more punches despite coming forward all night with no defence? Ok bud.

Why was the decision dodgy exactly?

Ggg is not p4p number one
Eh not a big fan of nobody on that list, but personally from my own scoring I give GGG props because I felt he won the fight closely. Ward I felt the same, but with Kovalev being the close winner, so GGG gets more credit for being the clear close fight legit winner IMO Ward vs Kovalev was dodgy as hell for Ward he should have gotten a draw max.
Golovkin was very disappointing
I felt kovalev won the ward fight and ward does no favours with his antics in the rematch talk
P4P 1 open at the moment

I don't see the obsession with knockdowns. You know that was flash knockdown verging on a push. How many rounds did you give Golovkin past the 6th?
It wasn't just a knock down. Danny Jacobs who is a KO artist himself did nothing to slow GGG down. He was happy to survive. You would have to give danny all the close rounds to give him the win. I had it even rounds by the end of the fight with the the KD being the difference.
Danny is getting a fake win for doing better than expected and casuals usually overhype that.
Huh, both fights were close but GGG dropped and battered jacobs.
Ward won a fight were he was dropped and wobbled.
