Floyd is uncharacteristically salty about Andre Ward fighting and then beating Sergey Kovalev. All controversy aside, is a win over a prime Sergey Kovalev, taking his 0 in the process, better than anything on Floyd's resume?
Pacquiao is still the better win.
A lot of fans thought Ward didn't even win against Kovalev.
Floyd gave Castillo and Maidana rematches. He didn't just disappear to leave fans guessing, he announced rematches fairly quickly. Ward is speaking in riddles and avoiding giving any clear answers. He implies that the Kovalev rematch is important one week, the next week he speaks as if he wants to retire.
Yes, pound for pound Canelo, Pacquiao, and Oscar De La Hoya are all more skilled and more accomplished than Kovalev. Before you say Pacquiao and Oscar were passed their prime ask yourself "Is Kovalev at 33 years old still prime?"
I would say Kovalev is slightly passed his prime, he seems to be fading in the later rounds in every fight he is in which is a sign that a fighter may be slowing down. He's still a good fighter but his resume is lacking when you compare it to the fighters whom Mayweather beat.
DeLorean's the type of guy to vote for Hillary Clinton thinking he's voting in favor of Trump.
Haha!
If Floyd had faught Manny five years earlier would have been a better win. Not so sure about a 2015 Manny.
Voting yes means you voted that Floyd has a better win on his record...
DeLorean's the type of guy to vote for Hillary Clinton thinking he's voting in favor of Trump.
At the end, Pacquiao is an ATG, he's a HOF'er. Will Kovalev go in the HOF?
What about the fact that Floyd was outweighed by his opponents?
Floyd 136 1/2
Corrales 146
Floyd 138 1/2
Castillo 147 1/2
When Floyd was at 130-135 he was beating welterweights on fight night while weighing in as heavy as a Lightweight at best.
so I had to vote yes. Ward jumping to the boogeyman division and beating a guy that's giving people nightmares who is in his prime is more impressive than anything on Floyd's CV.

Ward beating Kovalev is great because of the aura around Sergey. the boogeyman, the most feared, power in both hands, people were actually concerned for Ward's life.. sh*t even Floyd advised him to stay away, that HBO was setting up Ward for the kill as payback for him punking Golovkin.
that's what made it special. he took on a killer in prime form and beat him.
the closest Floyd comes to that is Corrales. but skillwise Kovalev sh*ts on Corrales.
Canelo was young and prime but he wasn't no killer. and that 152 catchweight is an asterisk.
Castillo wasn't no feared killer.
the DLH win is probably Floyd's overall best if you consider the circumstances. he was the B side and Oscar stacked everything in his favor just to lose.
Hatton wasn't no killer either.
Pacquiao six years too late and fight was much closer than people say.
Judah was also prime. but again he wasn't no killer. same goes for Cotto, Gatti, Ortiz, Baldomir etc.
killer just means fearsome puncher with boogeyman aura that is being avoided.
Floyd had a chance to face a killer.. Paul Williams. never happened.
so I had to vote yes. Ward jumping to the boogeyman division and beating a guy that's giving people nightmares who is in his prime is more impressive than anything on Floyd's CV.
Corrales, Hatton, and Canelo were all prime and undefeated. Floyd knocked out 2 of them and schooled the last one. KOvalev beat Ward imo.
NSB use to be littered with Hatton fans. It was the typical Floyd is scared, Floyd would get knocked out, Hatton has the perfect style to win, etc... Floyd won and they diminished the win. A TKO victory from a supposed feather fisted fighter over a supposed iron chinned fighter. Nobody thought Floyd would win by stoppage. It wasn't a gifted sd.
Yes, this is a very good example. I remember this bunch of Hatton fans (I was on ESPN mb back then). They just knew for a fact that Floyd will be destroyed. Absolutely no doubt in their minds.
I remember countering - but what if Floyd will not be physically weaker like they insisted and mauling would not work...
I did say "all controversy aside". Saying "yea but Ward lost to Kovalev" holds no water. Your opinion means nothing, the manner of the win doesn't matter. Many people think Floyd lost to Castillo but the win from the first fight still stands.
Also, Hatton "iron-chinned"? Really? Worst eyes for cuts in the business and almost knocked out by Collazo and Laszcano before getting in with Mayweather.
Changing the goal posts with 'all controversy aside' makes it a pointless exercise though, as its a fantasy situation
With Castillo, Floyd has the rematch. The first one was controversial (debatable as to who won), but it was settled in the rematch. Hopefully the same happens with Ward/Kovalev.
Pac was still a better win even despite his age imo.
Corrales is probably a slightly better win, evens if we are being generous (i only know the big names on DC's resume, as i wasnt a hardcore fan of the sport until later on), though the standard of performance was worlds apart. Floyd completely dismantled Corrales where Ward arguably (and imo did in a close fight) lose to Kovalev.
How can PAC be a better win when PAC is smaller than Floyd.? Don't even hgave to mention PAC wasn't far removed from being koed by jmm and wasn't the same.
Historically corrales just isn't that good.
An official win, in this manner, doesn't mean much though.
A clear win, that would be a difficult one. But the win wasn't clear.
Its easy to hide behind an official decision, but its an excuse not to think

Hatton almost got ko'd by Collazo? I certainky don't remember that. The Lazcano fight was also after the Floyd fight, so I don't know what you're getting at there.

Mayweather is a punk, Ward is a chump. Ward knows he didn't deserve the Killa Kov win, so does Mayweather. Ward also knows that in a rematch, he won't make it to round 6.
