Everyone's open to discuss, not only haters, sorry for that.
Do you agree with Kenny Porter who said his amateur career ir comparable to Lomachenko's and that he was beating the best amateurs in the world with ease? Or what's your opinion about it?
World champion in multiple weight classes, silver medal at the OG. Almost 400 fights, only around 10 losses.
You say his pro career is a joke. Do you at least give him credit for his amateur career?
Yngwie post:
Yes the guy had an impressive amateur career, olympic silver, world champion and i dare everyone to bring a better resume during a world championship, he beat everyone including Korobov who became the best amateur in the game after GGG turned pro and as a kid he beat Artayev who became future olympic champion and val barker winner, he also had an impressive run at the world cup and beat the likes of Dirrell, Geale, Lee, Despaigne, Korobov, Artayev and others...
No, it's not.

If you get injured before a pro fight, the fight gets cancelled, but if you get injured in an amateur tournament, the tournament has to go without you.
So that isn't a lost, Ward won the gold so he was the best fighter in his division in the entire world.
I think Ward was out of boxing before the olympic qualification so that's why he was happy with being qualified and left the tournament without facing the rival in the final to get some rest to the olympics.
It was my own comment which showed the results of the 2004 AIBA americas qualification tournament from Wikipedia.
I was just trying to clarify how he could have come second if he hasn't lost since he was 12. I can understand why it isn't considered a loss but it is a bit misleading when most people could say they have never lost a fight because they have never fought. Nonetheless, he hasn't been beaten since he was 12 and has won major tournaments along the way.
Yeah his incredible amateur record is a huge millstone around his neck holding him back from improving and Jacobs is going to win based solely on his granite jaw. LOL
Jacobs is the next best thing my friend, he will catch Golovkin with a huge overhand right that will shake him to his boots and then finish the job Qullin style.
It says the top 2 from each division qualify. Not sure how they signify gold vs silver if both guys won their matches.
I know that the top 2 qualify but I checked the winners profile on boxrec and it says that he won in the final by walkover, so maybe Ward was injured or felt for some reason that he didn't need to fight in the final. Nonetheless, isn't that still considered a loss?
His amateur career is one of the reasons I am a fan of GGG (though I refuse to be grouped with morons like you). Though he has tremendous power and a chin, he has the boxing acumen and IQ to execute high level techniques. His balance and control of opponents is second to none. It's a pleasure to watch.
That's completely true.
In every 24/7, or previa before his fights you can see that comment; i mean it also appeared in the creed movie, lol.
I remember it being brought up in a thread about whether ward had already done enough to get in the hof...in the context of his gold medal win and not having lost a fight since he was 12 were credentials to consider for induction into the hof for professional boxing.:lol1::lol1:
I think it is a bit hard to discuss amateur records properly. I haven't always been able to find much out about fighter's amateur records.
I know that Loma has a 396-1 record, and that he is considered to have the best amateur record of all time. But the only aspects of his amateur career which really mean anything to me are his WC and Olympic victories - there just isn't enough context for more analysis.
From what I know of GGG's amateur career, it was extremely good.
I think it is interesting that the GGG haters won't even consider the question. What this means, at the deepest levels, is that they aren't boxing fans.
When you lose objectivity to the point that you refuse to even answer a question in case you accidentally give a fighter some credit - then you aren't a boxing fan.
He's obviously one of the best middleweight amateurs of all time but that won't help him against Jacobs.

I've heard the Andre Ward hasn't lost since he was 12, but check out his page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_AIBA_American_2004_Olympic_Qualifying_Tournament
It shows that Ward got a silver medal in the Light Heavyweight class. Can someone explain what this means, did he lose or was there no final? It doesn't take away from his great boxing career but it does make me question the claim of being undefeated since 12.

That's not true...ward being a gold medalist and having not lost since he was a kid has been brought up plenty of times. It's just not as noticeable when it's a fighter you support. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it btw...it's just irrelevant when discussing professional accomplishments.

amateur careers dont count on here unless its to talk about wards olympic gold medal and wilders bronze medal as proof of their greatness.
:lol1: :lol1:
funny cos it's true.
who cares what race baiting fanboys think anyway tho?
Not quite sure why maxi, you, or whoever else is on a lifelong mission to try and convince them about anything, i just stick em on ignore.
whats the problem? Thats the green light for you to discuss...
Far from a hater. But I understand how you can feel that way when you only acknowledge my comments criticizing him and ignoring those comments defending him. When you are a fair and objective boxing fan such as PBP you deal with attacks from fans from various angles.
Great amateur career possibly the best ever, Gennady and Lomo rule the amateurs and its crossing over to the pros, great fighters both of them, I just wish G would have not ducked Ward at 168 other than Andre there is really no challenges at MW to make defining fights I don't see Jacobs as a defining fight I don't think Danny is in GGGs class.
