Floyd wasnt entertaining.
Floyd had a great ability and was a master boxer. But in order for him to have been entertaining he needed to step on the gas more in his fights. He outboxed everyone. But in his fights, it would hit round 8-9 and hed have swept all the rounds. Now go for the knock out in the last 4 or 5 rounds or so. Nope hed just continue to cruise and finish in his boring style. And he fought this way against everyone no matter if they were a cherry pick.
At least GGG can box and show great skill, then after a while go in for the kill.
A little more than half of Floyd's career took place at 130lbs, where he went 27-0 with 21 KO's. So at one point in his career Floyd was definitely seen as a guy who can KO the best of his weight class. As he rose in weight classes and started meeting bigger boxers, of course that's going to change. You honestly think Floyd couldn't get the KO's at WW because he didn't want to? It's because he couldn't. Even against Marquez he tried, and he said in the post fight interview that he tried going for the KO but couldn't get it.
My point is, let's see GGG get the KO's at 168-175lbs? Or let's see if he will adjust his KO style to a more boxer style once he meets bigger men up there. It's easy to criticize the power of a boxer who fought in 5 weight classes while bigging up someone who has fought in only one weight class.
Floyd was on average, 2-3lbs above what ever weight limit he was in from 135 to 147. At 135 he would come in at 137-138, at 140 he would come in at 142-144, at 147 he would come in at 148-150. While his opponents would be bigger than him by a good margin. So yeah, let's see GGG go through that as well and see if the KO's keep coming.
Yes, hes exciting, bc he goes for the kill.
I can see where people find his fight not suspenseful, bc they know he will win. But its not just against cans. Dudes like Lemeiux, Rubio, Murray, Macklin, Geale were solid top 10 MWs -- and he still destroyed him with ease.
The Jacobs fight will be the first were theres the possibility that he might lose, if Jacobs can check his chin. Looking forward to it.
GGG has an exciting style but he needs the right opponent to make an exciting fight. I thought the Brook fight was exciting. Other than that I haven't been that excited about GGG's career to this point. Because watching GGG destroy no hopers doesn't do it for me.
However I'm excited to see the Jacobs fight. Plus you have Canelo, and Jermall Charlo looking to make a name for himself so there's still time. These next 18 months could be huge for GGG if his team can land him the big fights.
No because there is no suspense in Ggg fights since he only fights cans. All his fights look the same and thats no fun.
Match him properly though and he could be really exciting.
good post, spot on, nuff said and end thread
