He was always bitter that he built up Oscar and Floyd and they both ended up leaving him and making (up until that point) the highest PPV of all time. He wanted that to be an in house fight.
Then the whole business of Oscar trying to steal Pacquaio from him, Pac going back to Top Rank, then Oscar suing him and getting a percentage of Pacquiao's purses for a while.
Then Cotto leaving Arum right before the Canelo fight as well and cutting him out of another big fight.
I think personally they are on ok terms but business wise they are at odds.
Those aren't big fights and most rival promoters don't work with each other putting prospect vs prospect or mid level fights unless they have to. Vargas vs Lomachenko doesn't make sense for Golden Boy right now when Vargas vs Salido 1 drew more viewers then Lomachenko does on HBO. A rematch with Salido or Muira both of which were fight of the year makes MORE money for Golden Boy then a fight with Lomachenko does. Those fights are all ahead of the list. Salido is already crying about the money because Arum signed Lomachenko to big money despite the fact he's small fighter who doesn't draw big ratings so they can't afford to pay for better opponents without either HBO or Top Rank losing money. Orozco is not ready for a title shot against Crawford only a fool would make that fight to damage a young fighter in your stable. And it might be a moot point as he might be moving to 147 because of the health scare his last fight. Linares has much better fights like Crolla or Mikey Garcia why fight for less against smaller named Top Rank fighters? And I doubt Top Rank wants to sacrifice a young Verdejo against Linares. So like I said ain't really a lot of fights to be made right now with fighters from both companies at different stages. And many big fights would of been made had Top Rank not lost some big names like Cotto, Mikey, Chavez.
Vargas-Salido would still be a Top Rank/Golden Boy event.
Beyond that, you've got to look at circumstances; the only reason that Linares is even able to fight Crolla is because he and his camp have been willing to twice head to the UK and fight Crolla in his literal hometown.
Mikey Garcia basically has the explicit backing of Showtime, with Richard Schaefer and RGBoxing chomping at the bit to work together. With the way that Oscar ****ed Showtime out of a deal that they believed they had with Saul Alvarez, do you honestly think that they'd tolerate Oscar pushing anything on their broadcast?
Is Oscar really going to be willing to grovel at Schaefer's feet to get Linares a fight? I'm not sure, leaving Oscar to look to Frank Warren (Terry Flanagan) or Top Rank for possible options going forward.
The separate stages is a fair point, but it's down to a matter of viable survival, for both companies, at this point, especially with HBO drying up the way it is.
I believe I stated that Verdejo and Vargas should fight, not Linares, but separate him as a top prospect if you want.
Look at the fighters, between Top Rank and Golden Boy, at 130lbs. Do that across all the weight classes, and you have a chance at having enough viable talent available between the two companies
they almost copromoted canelo-cotto, but cotto left arum when the negotiations started...
i have no doubt the fight could have done a lot better with arum instead of roc nation....
That's not inherently true, tbh; Oscar Valdez vs Joseph Diaz Jr, Magdaleno vs De La Hoya, Vargas vs Lomachenko, Linares vs Beltran, Linares vs Juan Diaz, Linares vs Verdejo, Crawford vs Orozco, etc are all there as fights to be made (that would also likely draw TV interest).
The talent availability definitely evaporates in a major way, once you go above 147, for a Top Rank/Golden Boy consortium, but neither company (outside of a few instances) has never really focused on the bigger guys anyway .

They don't have a lot of fighters to work with. Schaefer took all of the GBP fighters with him and hand them over to Haymon. Richard is back with his charade of opening his own company when in fact he's now promoting PBC/Haymon fights full time. Mission accomplished.
I was looking at TR fighters and man they don't even have 154 fighters. GBP/TR co-promoted Sadam Ali vs Vargas, Postol vs Matthysse, Matthysse vs Provodnikov. What else can they make with a handful of fighters?
What's frustrating for fans is Haymon having all these numerous fighters, but hardly fight.
Beat me to it. I don't see it as conflict for why they aren't doing more fights but more they don't have many fighters that are at the same level to work with each other. Again Cotto vs Canelo would of been a blockbuster fight that Golden Boy/Top Rank worked together on, Cotto cut Top Rank out and it became a Golden Boy/Roc Nation fight. It's not Golden Boy's fault Chavez and Mikey Garcia jumped ship from Top Rank otherwise Canelo/Chavez is a blockbuster Golden Boy/Top Rank fight. If Mikey wins and Linares wins that fight probably gets made, Oscar already said he wants that fight. People forget Matthysee was in tons of talk to fight Pacman but he got upset by Postol. If not you might of got Matthysee vs Pacman.
What fights aren't happening? Oscar hates Haymon with a passion more then he could ever hate Arum yet if the right deal for his fighters presents itself he will make it. See Canelo Khan. Right now what is the fight that Golden Boy needs Arum for? Matthysee vs Ruslan, Matthysee vs Postol, they were negotiating Canelo vs Cotto with Top Rank and everything went smooth till Cotto jumped ship to Roc Nation for more money and that cut Top Rank out of the fight. Also Vargas vs Ali. I don't think Oscar has a beef with Arum and if he has a fighter that brings something he wants for a Golden Boy fighter he'll do it.

These 2 were buddy buddy once Oscar got clean, promising to work together and now their back to feuding again.
Oscar got tricked out of his position, imo.
Arum had no real intention of opening his shop to anyone, but he understood that he could "put the battery in Oscar's back" and **** up Oscar's business.
Arum gassed Oscar up, Oscar made the move against the guy who'd basically been keeping things going for him, the house fell apart, and then Oscar took his only star to HBO.
With Pacquiao on his way out, and Arum spending the last 15 years as the house promoter for HBO, Oscar jumping ship has drastically affected the money available at HBO for Arum to run his own business.
If Oscar had stayed on Showtime, in Arum's mind likely, he'd have the ability to sop up most of the HBO boxing budget, with his spillover fights going to Oscar (to sop up the Showtime budget as well).
They love to say Haymon stole Oscar's fighters (even though Matthysse said he didn't want to leave Golden Boy & he was allowed to stay) but what they never bring up is that Golden Boy changed their contracts that gave them authority to choose which managers their fighters could sign with. THAT'S WHY HAYMON DIDN'T ALLOW HIS FIGHTERS TO SIGN WITH GBP. But let's just ignore that fact
Putting it in block capitals doesn't make it any more true.

WTF does Haymon have to do with ODH and Arum's relationship?

Arum never really liked Oscar since he left TR twice and sued him, Oscar also tried to steal Manny Pacquiao with a briefcase of money, eating off bits and pieces off of Manny's plate for a handful of Manny's fights latter in his career....Arum in return colluded for years with Mayweather to make the Floyd Manny fight, boxing biggest fight minus Oscar, and has been shytting on him ever since
After canelo oscars stable is really weak, he doesn't want arum beating him every cross promotion.
^^^this^^^ and Arum plays Oscar and his fighters the F out all the time lol
They are competitors who don't get along which is common in boxing. They don't like to share the money or match their star fighters into other fighters who might beat them.
