Fighting Chaves Jr at 165 is a very dangerous fight, Canelo could be put to sleep, he's moving up 11 pounds doing something fighters don't usually go up 2 weight divisions and take risk but Canelo is doing it, at middleweight Canelo would be the favorite but anywhere between 164-168 it's 50/50
That fight packs in Dallas Cowboys Stadium probably 60-80K easily that is a HUGE FIGHT between two well known Mexican Fighters also has many facinating Back Story to it. Chavez Sr vs Oscar De La Hoya, Chavez Jr said years ago beating Canelo would be like Avenging his father vs Oscar so the build would be GREAT and I think the PPV Buys would be Solid
Make It Happen! Much better than fighting Margarito and some of the other rumored names! If he does move up to 164-165 then GGG will have to be NEXT at 160 would think!

Alvarez isn't "going up" 11 pounds; he's simply not going to need to really cut any weight.
Head to camp, put in a hard 10-12 weeks, check the weight on the week of the fight, and cut whatever few pounds that are left to cut.
How Chavez Jr gets down to 165lbs is going to be key; if he's any type of fight fit, he'll likely have a 15lb weight advantage anyway.
If this fight gets made, Im taking the trip to go watch it live. This might spoil the plans for Canela-Golovkin. Chavez Jr has a real shot to turn his entire legacy around in one night, he has a real chance of pulling it off.
A prime Chavez would beat Canelo. Canelo wouldn't knock him out and all Chavez needs is someone who will stand in front of him for him to let his hands fly on. Canelo has poor stamina now, he'd be dead in the second half of the fight vs someone like Chavez. The only issue is I don't know where Chavez is at the moment.
Quote "Ihourrun" says: The weight favors Canelo hes going to be fully rehydrated but the opposite is the case for Chavez...this is another Kell Brook-Amir Khan type move...get beat and get crazy paid but have and excuse with the weight....I mean this trend starting to make sense...Cotto-Kirkland Canelo-Chavez jr....yep thats why I follow the lower weights this is all a hustle.

I think both of these posters make great points about the possibilities. This fight could have either trajectory frankly. In my estimation Chavez junior has always been slightly underestimated. He has all the bad qualities people claim he does, but he also knows how to throw his weight around, attack the body well and he wins a lot of fights doing so.
Now...as 1hourrun has said, Canelo has shown signs that holding the weight down is a liability. But its not just weight...people often don't get this especially when talking about the heavy weights...some people are bigger...bigger bones, bigger frame, etc. Some guys at 200 can fight heavyweight, others cannot fight in the division at cruiser weight, its not so easy to tell. if Canelo is more comfortable or, if he can box like he did against Cotto at this weight he will do very well.
Has it ever even happened? A PPV headliner being called off at the last minute? I don't recall it in my time following boxing
It's happened many times in boxing and UFC where big fights were called off because someone missed weight. I know Chico Coralles walked way after 2 epic fights with Castillo and big payday because Castillo missed weight again.
Of course they would and they will. This is not a fight with 2 guys in the same weight class and one guy misses it. This is fight between 2 fighters separated by a ton of weight already. And Canelo is the A side so he won't give any additional advantage to Chavez. They will put in weight clauses to monitor that fat boy every week to ensure he is on track. We saw Floyd ready to cancel a PPV days before if Maidana didn't refuse to change his gloves but you think Canelo the new A side what threaten to walk if Chavez misses weight? And if the fight fails over weight it will be Chavez who takes the brunt and negative backlash for killing the PPV not Canelo. You nuts if you think Chavez the B side will just blow off the weight and show up at 170 and the fight still goes on.

No way they cancel a big PPV on the eve of the fight because the fighter no one expects to win misses weight. It would be a PR catastrophe

He was able to do that in other fights were he was the A side against opponents who couldn't get paid without him. He is now depending on Canelo to get payday different story.
Would have been interesting a few years ago when Jr. Was still making 160 under Roach. Either way Jr. Was never anything more than a huge Middleweight with a great chin. Canelo shpuld be able to outclass any version.
Then he doesn't get paid because no fight will go on. Chavez wants one last payday before he's put into retirement. He's cashing out and Golden Boy/Canelo will tell him he better kill himself do whatever to make weight if he wants to get paid.

I hope Chavez Jr says "screw it" and weighs in at 170
Then we might have a fight on our hands

It almost pains me to admit it, but it might well be decent scrap - for a few rounds - though I can't say I'm in favour of it or GGG vs Jr either. Problem is I think Jrs gonna be drained to hell at 165. He won't have fought at that weight in close to 5 years and he ain't a kid anymore. I can see his size and strength making it a bit competitive early rounds but I don't think his stamina will hold up in the long haul.

The fight is dangerous Chavez is naturally 2 or more weight classes bigger then Canelo. Canelo is the faster and more skilled fighter. But Chavez will be massive in size and has a punchers chance. A lot of people keep assuming that Canelo will come in at the contract limit. No way this will be like Floyd and Manny where they had multiple catchweights to make fights possible with much bigger fighters BUT they rarely came in at those weights. They came in at a comfortable weight a few below the limit. My guess is Canelo comes in 160 or a little below regardless what they agree on and absolutely schools Chavez and makes him quit on his stool again. This will be Pacquiao vs Oscar. Chavez because his size and chin he might not go down but will take a major beating and we'll see how many rounds he wants it to go on for.
Don't be surprised if this fight is in Dallas or Mexico City. Remember both guys have sort of fought where testing is not mandatory. Plus Chavez will have been working with Memo. Chavez will balloon back up to like 180 or 185 before the fight too. Dangerous fight for Canelo.
HeChavez looks great to me at the weigh in. He looks very lean and fighting shape.
Care to find 3 lbs he can lose on that body? lmao schiet he's gonna be dead bro
