Don't know if this has been posted yet but I thought this was an interesting interview. After the Gatti fight Mayweather was 34-0 with 23 KOs. After that fight, he only had 3 stoppages: Sharmba, Hatton and Ortiz (which was kind of a weird scenario).
He admits that this is the fight where his body began to break down and he had to adjust his style and use his IQ and experience to win fights. I've heard a lot of people argue about when his true prime ended (some say Hatton, some say Marquez, I always felt it was when he left 140).
This interview makes sense if you follow his fights as his style began to change drastically when he moved to welterweight. I think the combination of fighting bigger guys, hand problems and the physical wear and tear on his body were the main reasons for fighting more conservatively.
back in the day fighters were shot at 25? Lmfao what, unless your talking about the 20s, or fighters that were just in wars their whole career, that statement makes no sense.
most fighters were shot before 30 bro...do your own research...only the top guys made it past 30 and many of them didnt....thats why duration of fights changed, gloves, etc
Every fighter misses a few fighters coming up in weight for one reason or another. Flows would have embarrassed Margarito or a younger Cotto. Johnston would have been fodder. Kostya would have been the fight that might have been interesting and Floyd called him out, but the promoters killed it. Mosley vs Floyd at 140 would have been good, too bad Mosley wouldn't fight him then. Williams was a challenge physically and volume wise, Floyd would have figured him out though.
It's telling that Cotto made a fight with Mayweather in mere weeks after he left Arum. They wanted to fight each other, a promoter stopped it. Happens all the time in boxing throughout history.
Just know that Mayweather was accused of avoiding Corales, Gatti, Baldomir, Judah, Hattion, Marquez, Mosley, Canelo, Pacquaio etc etc. and he had two close fights against Castillo and Madaina who he gave immediate rematches to. He's a legend.
if you think floyd would of beaten those fighters in his prime then thats fine, doesnt change the fact he ducked most of them in his prime.
30+ pro fights
over 90+ amatuer fights
countless hours in the gym, roadwork, sparring
back in the day fighters were shot or used up by age 25-28 and lossed more than they won by 30...many had a lot of fights others had as many fights as floyd had, depending on their style.
having a father and uncles who boxed...i couldnt imagine how far he got pushed.
fans dont think of the preparation all they see is the fights :boxing:
one of my buddies is 27 derrick wilson had over 50+ am fights and about 20 pro fights....he isnt shot but he definitely isnt the same as he was 5 years ago watching his old fights

i can do that to anyones resume...neeeeeexxxxxt
I say this all the time. We gotta start taking things at face value. Of the fights he listed, the Ghost fight was the only one that I didn't like going into the fight.
Nah Mayweather doesn't age, he doesn't have wear and tear. Others does but he doesn't, he just wait for everyone else to age and be war torn whilst he becomes Benjamin button..

Floyd at 130-140 beats any other fighter from 130-140, it's clear that he isn't a welterweight but he still fought there and moved up and beat two light middleweight champs
I would have lov d to have seen Floyd v Mosley at 140
The problem with that is the entertainment factor. What if Lara or Rigo was the champion in a weight class. There would be no money to be made.
Fans have to warm up to all styles of boxing in order for something like that to work.
Fans need to warm up to styles on their own.
who cares if Lara or Rigo are champs? If they are the best in the division, they should be champs.
Who cares about the money? (That's a rhetorical question). Sure, it's a business. Sure, it's prizefighting. It's also a sport. It's also FIGHTING, which immediately implies that there are winners and losers, and there must be an ultimate winner (champ).
If someone has a problem with a guy like Rigo dominating the division then do something about it. Lace em up and learn, and take him out yourself, or invest in someone who can.
"waaaaaaah, the Warriors are too good of a basketball team. The NBA should be govered by governing bodies like boxing so we can have many champs and then teams like the 76ers can be paper champs and fans can feel good about them and the Warriors can also be champs and they can never face each other so the 76ers never lose to the Warriors....waaaaaah"
Let me guess, your go-to rebuttal will be "but the Warriors play an entertaining brand of basketball, Rigo has a boring brand of boxing, not the same thing".
If you come at me with something like that you already lost. It's not the point and it's not a good excuse.
There don't need to be conditions for champions. There doesn't need to be a checklist with the belt, your "popularity" and "fan friendly-ness" shouldn't be a factor. Are you the best? Did you beat the champ? That's what matters. That's what should matter.
That's the problem. The casual fans only got to see him when he adapted more of an "old man style". They don't see the dynamic offensive fighter that was tearing up the lighter weight classes.
It's not an excuse.
I never got a pass for being ignorant about what happened in boxing before I got into it. Why should someone else?
As a fan, heck in anything, it's your responsibility to learn, to educate yourself.
One of the most pathetic attitudes that (largely the youth today) some people have is this: "well, Jordan played before my time so I won't rank him All-Time because I didn't see him play and I can only go by stats and it was a different era so must be better".
GO WATCH THE FILM YOU MORON. TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION ACCOUNTS AT THE TIME AND RESPECT THEM BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO LEAN ON! Ignorance might be bliss, but it sure isn't an excuse.
So cats missed out on most of Floyd's career and only saw his last four fights and thus figure this was Floyd all his life. WHY WOULD YOU EVEN BOTHER REPLYING TO AN IGNORANT IDIOT LIKE THAT? Even entertaining their ignorance is the wrong answer. How do you erase irreverant trolling and widestread ignorance? You ignore it. Trust me, it works. The reason NSB is the way it is is because ignoring people like that is too difficult for most of you. If it wasn't beyond most of the normal posters on here, this place would be a better place for all of us.
he is retired bro...the trolling is past old..both have a lot of heart...moving on
Bro? really. please dont put SOG with that coward in one sentence.

Well, Mayweather is better than GGG. And even Joe Cazalghe is also better than GGG. At least Joe moved up to 175, and beat Bernard Hopkins.
well calzaghe is better than everyone so that's not fair
