boxing did: 400K, 600k, 55k, 300k, 300k and 160k expected for the kovalev-ward fight https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pay-per-view#Boxing both manny and canelo fought twice on ppv this year
so a total of 1815k
mcgregor did: 1600k vs diaz 1, 1650k vs diaz 2 and the number for ufc 205 are still coming in http://mmapayout.com/blue-book/pay-per-view/
what do you think of that ? Is UFC still dead?
These numbers don't come from the UFC. They come from Dave Meltzer, who works for MMAfighting and is not on the UFC payroll.
I would say there is probably a +/- 200K buys tolerance. So maybe instead of McGregor's PPVs getting 1.6M buys, they might be 1.4M instead. Still a figure that would annihilate any boxing PPV in this year.
But he's not adding an extra 600K or 1M buys... like some people are suggesting.
that makes two of us then. proof es in the pudding....look at the ppv #'s of canelo's fights, the live gate and the man has mexico behind him...conor has a bunch of drunk bar dwellers and irish guys(little island).
UFC what you go watch when their isnt a big boxing ppv on, a party going on......wings, booze, and grown men swinging like females and humping each other.....yea the evolution of combat sports bwahahahahahahahaha with the "face" of combat sports
wtf are you even talking about :lol1:
Take away Conor and it still destroys boxing
UFC 200 without Conor or Rhonda outsold all of boxing by itself
Rhonda's return will to
Bisping-Henderson 2 outsold ggg-lemuiex, Crawford-postal, kovolev-ward combined
Brock Lesnar is one if UFC biggest all time draws. He fought at UFC 200 didnt he?
Obviously UFC is way bigger than boxing at the moment. Not many young people are into boxing anymore.
no one in boxing has the same type of marketing and promotional platform like mcgregor does.
ufc has far batter marketing and promoting of their product, and mcgregor was smart enough to capitalize on it, where as in boxing, each promotion is doing their own thing, and it's really like each one is just a traveling carnival instead of a mega business like the ufc has made themselves out to be, like WWE, just a solid brand.
what has boxing done as far as branding? nothing much really, it seems like boxing is putting out more fires from crap decisions in fights, to watered down shows, to only four fights max on pay per views, all the while ufc has been running away with the ball in and about getting into has many households as possible.
on a good note though, it will really help boxing bounce back with the fights being on network television, but now moulding and shaping and grooming fighters to be household names is going to take some finessing, something boxing hasn't done in years.
see, mcgregor will get on the mic after a fight or any time on the mic, call out, talk trash, CREATE A DEMAND to see him, boxers say the same crap every time after a fight like they're reading a script, and then won't call anyone out, their most notable line is," I don't care who I fight, whoever my manager and promoter puts in front of me..." BOOORRRRIIIINNNGGGG!!!
That creates ZERO demand, is far from exciting, and gives the fans next to nothing until a match we want to see gets made because it's the only option left.
as soon as a boxer takes his own destiny into his hands, creates a demand other than getting into the ring, only then one will rise to the top of the game, and be a big ppv seller... until then, nada.
I will also say this, mark my words, ufc is on the decline, have hit their peak, you don't sell a business on top of its game, before maximum gains... that sale of the ufc, we will see it backslide. watch.
Floyd Mayweather was entertaining when he was was younger and was not a PPV attraction. He only became a huge PPV's star after he beat De La Hoya (while being defensive). So what is your point there?
MMA more demanding than boxing??? tell me how Brock Lesnar who wrestled in in college then became a fake wrestler for years went on to be UFC heavyweight champ after 3 MMA fights... He probably learned how to punch a year prior to winning the title
Lesner was a beast because he would take you down and beat the hell out of you...
Put floyd, loma, manny in the ufc and they don't last a round, let alone win titles
Exactly. Conor is marketing himself. Many boxers should learn this.
Whats funny is when an MMA dude does this, MMA fans show support. When a boxer does this, for example Broner, fans get all uppity and say hey, you can't act like that.
Wrong... A lot of mma fans hated on Conor much like boxing fans hate on floyd
Difference is that conor n floyd backed it up and sold millions... Broner hypes it but gets his shyt packed in like he was larry's cellmate
Lol at ppl believing MMA figures.
How do you explain their 4.5 billion price tag for 80% and there 115 million a year Tv contract that's supposed to double or triple with renewal..
Do you know more about the UFC then the Goldman Sachs bankers n buyers that actually have access to the books???
Can you explain how their ebitda is nearly 300mil.. do you even know what that means???
How many bars order the UFC, those aren't included in ppv but rates???
U seem to act like an expert so please enlighten us
Take away McGregor then look at the numbers...
I don't even follow MMA and I watch all of his fights and press conferences.
Also didnt he fight like 3-4 times this year? All good fights against top fighters in different divisions. I am not shocked that he has sold more PPVs than boxing this year
Take away Conor and it still destroys boxing

Yeah.. the casuals love big hyped fights but boxing hardly ever delivers
The 70s n 80s big fights usually always delivered but from the 90s to today have been disappointing
Tyson biting off ear
Lennox-evander 1 decision
Tito-Oscar
Lennox-Tyson
Oscar-Hopkins
Oscar-Floyd
Floyd-canelo
Floyd-manny
Millions n millions of casual fans were disappointed and slowly eroded away popularity
Don't forget about Seldon/Tyson! I was only 10 years old at the time but I recall how hyped it was (my dad bought it on PPV and had a big fight party) and how pissed off everyone was because it ended with KO1.
mcgregor is a swagger jacker who is NOT an all time great martial artist or fighter...he is a very good fighter with charisma...nothing more or less
all my beer chugging bar crawlers know who he is but the average person, kids....Conor who?
They are trying to make him the biggest star....i doubt he does better numbers than Canelo, Cotto and Manny every year with the same amount of fights. Plus their purses are larger
I think more people know who Mcgregor is than any one in boxing today other than Manny. And I don't think it's even close.
UFC is a BETTER PRODUCT right now...PERIOD!
I have no problem paying for UFC 205 because the Card was Stacked but Boxing PPV's will now get streamed, not paying for any of it anymore!
Difference is Lomachenko was an amateur BOXER who won two olympic gold medals. Basically a legendary AM boxer.
Lesnar on the other hand was an amateur WRESTLER (not MMA fighter) in college then went on to WWE for like 8 years before even taking up MMA. He probably only had like a couple of years of MMA training before he won their highest accolade which is the UFC heavyweight champion of the world..
Last time I checked MMA and Collegiate Wrestling is not the same sport
Lmao...
Put loma in UFC and he gets destroyed

the most common complaint I hear from general sports fans re: boxing is the continual crap being served up, especially in PPV.

Ufc is striving,,, but it has no bearing on boxing..
All it does is highlight how horribly ran boxing is..
Boxing is its own worse enemy, and has driven away the fans all on its own..
I thought PBC had a chance at revolutionizing boxing, but really it's just more of the same

Lomachenko... very early in his pro career. Sure he had a huge amatuer background.. but lesnar had a huge background in college and NCAA wrestling..
Levels. MMA currently does better than boxing to the wider sphere, and Conor ****s over any current boxer for notoriety on BOTH sides of the pond. (Im a brit)
