Why not? It's a 12 round fight and a lot of the rounds themselves were close.
Some guy dominating 90% of rounds does not equate to close. Plus it is crazy to believe Kovalev didnt win rounds when Ward was running across 3 of the 4 available corners.
Bernstein is one of the best out there IMO.
The 114-113 to Kovalev score he mentioned was the one i had.
I agree with his point about 2 of the judges only scoring 1 round of the last 8 for Kovalev. And even one of those rounds was round 12. A round that didn't effect the end result on that particular scorecard.
But you can't label it a close fight if Ward gets given almost all but one of the last 7-8 rounds. Thats not close. Which is what Berny is tryin to say.

I like Al, but I don't fully agree with him here. I had Kovalev winning because of the knock down, having said that, this was a very close fight. I think controversial is the appropriate label for the fight.
Also, I'm glad the rematch is happening. If Kovalev was truly just overtrained, he will wreck Ward by the 10th this time, however, I don't think that's the main reason he lost, and I think Ward will get away with another close decision.

Al Bernstein may be the best and most unbiased boxing analyst/commentator in the game.
I literally said the exact same thing. All those hood rats saying "its close, not a robbery" dont understand the scoring involved, or if they do, are outright lying. Plus, how do you label a fight close if one guy wins 7 of 8 rounds? lol They shoot themselves in the foot with their own logic.

He's a nice guy but he don't know ****. His keys to victory are things like, 1. Keep ur hands up 2. Use your left 3. Bring extra water. Not in that order
Bring extra water :lol1: he still knows more than farhood and the other guy

Bernstein's analysis spot on. This rematch will have a very interesting dynamic. Kovalev will be out for blood for sure because of what he and most unbiased fans perceived as a bad decision. Ward will try to out think the Krusher and win on points. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.
Nice to see someone with credibility and an unbiased opinion give his take on the fight. I always liked Bernstein, he is one of the fairest of the commentators, even when I don't always agree with him.

Now BERNSTEIN is credible because I know he has ZERO BIAS! I don't disagree at all my stance is consistent I won't argue with anybody with how they seen the fight. Would've been fine with 114-113 Kovalev I still got it a Draw watching it 3 times felt it was like 3 Rounds that could've been scored even. When Close like that Champ shouldn't lose his Belts that is why I say Draw with Champ keeping his Belts and doing it again
