I mean holy sh*t, no matter how many times I watch this fight it blows me away. You can't even call it a fluke - it was a straight up beatdown. Kirkland tasted the canvas 3 times and had 2 chances to change it up but did nothing. Absolutely one dimensional. Props to Ishida for going all out.
Even if they had a rematch Ishida would have won again - he can take a lot of punishment and will counter punch all night; exposing Kirkland's lack of skill and poor chin all over again.
He went on and beat Angulo a few months later. I consider that his biggest win. His trouble outside the ring ruined him tho.I meant it in terms of kirkland losing his aura.
Whathisface on here tried to warn us that Ishida was going to be a tough customer for Kirkland, but yeah I watched that **** on the Boxing Guru stream i think. Was that on the Morales/Maidana card?..... man I was going nuts when little homie KTFO Kirkland, incredible upset. And he parlayed that into three big fights (Williams, Golovkin, Pirog) that probably turned his whole life upside down.
Gotta go watch that Kirkland KO now....lol little homie? ishida is a big dude who has fought at heavyweight.

I hate the terminology exposed, its such a crappy term for so many reasons.
You can usually tell when a fighter has someones number as in this case they celebrate when dropping someone as they know the plan is working rather than them dropping them per se.
TheLacy one sticks out to me too. Every man and dog thought he'd blitz JC and how very differently that turned out.
Before Prescott there were a few signs of vulnerability with Khan.
I agree with the OP, Kirkland was built to be a monster and Ishida was a laughable opponent that was supposed to be a 1-2 KO with Kirkland going on his Tyson-like way. In fairness to James, Ishida went on to go the distance with Paul Williams then Dmitry Pirog, and I think he beat Canelo's brother just prior.
But people in the know like Gabe Montoya were pointing out that Kirkland had a questionable chin before hand. I guess Shawn Porter iced James in sparring post Anne Wolfe/pre-Ishida. Kirkland was still an offensive juggernaut, I won some good money on him beating Angulo. Still think Wolfe gets too much credit with her training style. Yeah it kept James disciplined, but it also burned him out mentally and physically.
Throw Kirkland in the same boat as Bute & Khan. Great offensive abilities, but weak durability. Khan losing to Presscott exposed him quit a bit.
wasnt ishida fighting at heavyweight in his last few fights? :lol1:
at least thats a good exuse for kirkland...he wasnt with ann wolfe doe/ KO'd by a heavyweight doe
