If Ray Robinson was around in that period he would pretty much be Floyd Mayweather~
Dude was all about the paper, was known to place money fights over challenging ones (LaMott 6 times over any of the black murders row even once) and was a known abuser of women.
Point still stands.
The same could be said if Julio Cesar Chavez was around in that period, or Roberto Duran. Floyd knows what the hell he was doing during the height of Cotto, Williams, Margarito, Mosley, etc...
People don't like to hear it, but sports evolves. Football players from today would murder football players from 25 or 50 years ago. Basketball players from today would embarrass basketball players from the 60s.
Why do people think boxing is any different?
Today's fighters have better training, better diets, and a team of experts around them getting them ready. They also have extensive tape on every opponent so there are no surprises in the ring. Boxers today would crush boxers from 30 years ago. That's a fact.
Floyd is by far the best of this generation. He fought more champions than anyone and he was so dominant that he only came close to losing twice. In short, he's 100% in the discussion for TBe with at most 3 or 4 other fighters.
Hell yeah, im not trying to sound like a fanboy or anything but you really can make the case. Just be objective, he went 50-0. Mostly dominated every opponent he ever faced, fought some good names in the process although many think he lacks a signature win. And skillwise he is one of the most complete fighters of all time if not the most complete. His ring IQ and boxing ability is through the roof as well.
He is no doubt among greats, he will be appreciated more probably around 10-20 years from now.
Seriously?
LOL.
Please let yourself be known.Remotely, yes he has a case to be made by his fans. No he's not the best ever...just one of many who they say are. #Alibestever
Floyd gives any fighter in history an L (in his perspective weight classes)or a extremly competitive fight. Floyd greatest weapons were his Einstein fight IQ and his paranoia to train w out leaving no stone unturned. Floyds a fvckin dogg in the ring (which is highly overlooked.) I will certainly miss him as a fighter.
not thee best ever, but one of the best.
If Ray Robinson was in his prime in 2007-present, Floyd would have never came out of "retirement".

"remotely close"?
yes, hes a lock for top 10 all time.
That is remotely close to being the best ever. You could debate if he is the absolute best ever but he is one of the best ever.
"How do you rank them when they don't run across in the internet." Maybe you should read more because I said they aren't mainly found in front of the cover because foreign journalism is mainly behind the U.S in terms of cover. So it is hard to find one, but you can found it on youtube if you look into enough. And you can also look in to foreign T.V in mexico and spain and germany when they talk about boxing history.
Basing a criteria that has no direct bias in nationality should be considered and floyd already has the advantage. Why ask officials only in America when there are other countries?
I could also ask you how many of these boxing analist rank mayweather ahead of Pac or inside top 10.
Do you think Floyd is ahead of Manny despite the fact that Manny has the better resume, accomplished more, accomplished feats that no one in the boxing world has ever accomplished.
What is your criteria?
What did Floyd accomplished inside boxing?
Undefeated Record 49-0 surpassed by Ricardo Lopez
Lineal Champ at 4 weight classes, equaled by Manny Pacquiao and Henry Armstrong.
Champion in Five Divisions surpassed by Oscar Dela Hoya and Manny PAcquiao
No ATG prime in their best weight class and Manny has three
What did Pacquiao accomplished?
8 division champion (Never been done before)
7 division champion (Never been done before)
The only flyweight to win a belt in Lightweight, Lightwelterweight, Welterweight and Jr. Middleweight.
Fought Three ATG mexicans in their prime and best weight class.
One of the most celebrated Careers in boxing.
Lineal Champ at 4 weight classes equaled by Mayweather and Henry Armstrong.

this is an unbiased analysis from a BLACK analist and trainer of boxing and MMA who knows his history.
Quick correction Henry Armstrong never got 4 lineal titles he held 3 consecutively and was well on his way to winning a 4th (at mw) but got tired later and fought to a draw. also historians will probably never rank manny over Floyd because Floyd proved to be the best of this era when they fought. Wherever Floyd lands manny will be right behind.
Call me sour because he got the "W" against Pac, but I think he's been the best PICKER ever. He's said it numerous times, including what I have in my sig, he would never be in a fight that he knew he could lose. He makes perfect decisions regarding who to face and when to face them. He's generated so much revenue in Vegas that he's practically protected there.
Nonetheless, when the hell have we ever picked Floyd to lose a fight he was in? To me, greatness and TBE is when a guy isn't expected to win keeps pulling off miracles. If you think a guy already is going to win, there is a reason...
Best of his era yes top 15 ATG yes
TBE? Olympic medalist 5 weight champ officially undefeated with no draws fast supreme conditioning iron chinned never been knocked down (i mean badly not glove touching canvas) 26 consecutive wins in title fights great defence Holds ppv records ect ect
You can certainly make a strong case to claim he is
Agreed but when ranking him you have to include his "hands" and he doesn't stand a chance versus ATG guys like Leonard, Hearns, etc. without any power
Doesn't stand a chance ? Lol get the hell out of here

Anyone really believe Floyd is remotely close to being TBE ? | BoxingScene Community
