I agree. Vargas is improving with every fight. Berto had seen better days and was a rare Mayweather cherrypick. Usually Mayweather's opponents are very good in my opinion. Berto just wasn't that good and was ranked about number 20 at welterweight. Vargas was a world champion. A world champion is something Berto hasn't been in many years.
Vargas very well might beat Berto. Since Floyd clearly defeated Manny the results of match between the 2 men they fought following their fight doesn't matter.
It'd be a good fight even now actually, you have to slightly favor Vargas but Berto is a live dog in this fight.
Yeah it's probably not a blow out. I would definitely favor Vargas at this point, though.
Maybe that version of Berto, but fantasy fights are only fair if you pit two fighters prime and at their best at each other, otherwise you are handicapping one fighter.
So if I look at prime Vargas vs prime Berto on their best nights, I am going with split decision for Berto.
Why? Berto has chin and heart so while he will get tagged by some good hard shots by Vargas and in the later rounds when Vargas rallies, but he will take them well and finish on his feet. I think Vargas forces a war in stretches but Berto despite being pretty flat footed can move and box when he wants to or needs to and he would outbox Vargas on the inside and have a slight advantage on the cards in the end. I see both fighters possibly getting knocked down but more flash knockdowns than devastating ones.
