He looked like a ko waiting to happen at times, he was lunging in head first and Vargas was barely missing.. At times he looked great but at other times he attacked so recklessly and i thought he was about to be caught..Props to him for beating a young champion and he definitely earned the victory..But after all these years how have they not stopped him from lunging in like that?
I love Pac. He brought me in boxing. But I've seen recently he has slowed down. I blame the age, he being a Christian, of course the knockout to jmm, and being a politician for his tamed ferocity in the ring. Before all that, he was a badass in Nd out the ring. Tasmanian devil, minimum 500+ punch out put, known gambler, womanizer, movie actor, recording artist, tv host. All that has changed. His recklessness as a offensive fighter has moved to a smarter, calculated fighter. Taking fewer risk during exchanges, but only enough to win the round.
He is definetely an Atg and his evolution as a fighter can't be overlooked. His hard work, dedication is still there, shown by his speed and newfound intelligence in the ring. He's getting hit less, and his accuracy has gone up.
Will we ever see the old pac, throwback fighter, best offensive fighter? Maybe. He was fired up whenever he would get hit against Vargas, fought like a man possessed after the first knockdown from Marquez. He needs someone to push him. I hate all the touching of gloves between fight.
That's why I wish may weather would have been more disrespectful during the prefight hype like he's done in the past. Morales, hatton, cotto, and margarito, got in packs skin, and it unleashed the beast.
At this point, he beats a lot of the welterweights out now. Possibly may weather rematch, one thing sure, you won't expect a knockout anytime soon.
Only watch a bit of the fight on Youtube, and the first thing i said was this guy hasn't change with his lunging in.
U think at 37, after winning all these world titles and becoming a ATG he will change all his way of boxing? He already changed and became more defensive. Hell, Vargas only connected with 18.5% of his punches. Not bad, right?
He was facing a guy basically 5 inches taller than him and the guy had several inches in reach advantage.
Reach is such an advantage. Manny' workrate has declined and speed slightly so he's getting hit a bit more coming in.
But then again, everyone gets hit in a boxing match. It's just an over exaggeration.
That was honestly one of the worst fights I've seen from Pacquaio.
He won the fight clearly but it's the worst I've seen him. Hey few combos, didn't look sharp at all. Got hit with him very clean punches.
He doesn't look like the same fighter from 2015 even.
He always looks like a KO waiting to happen when fighting lanky fighters nowadays, he comes in lunging while staying straight up and he never moves quite far enough out of reach since these guys are so long, example watch the Algieri fight. That's why I think he'd last a lot longer at 140. He looked a lot better vs Bradley because Bradley is actually his size.
I'll say this again to wrap up this site and this fight...an over the hill manny beat an in his prime Vargas. For a belt. In his what? 67th pro fight? Appreciate him, he's almost gone.
Agreed , the guy looked tiny in there , he conceded reach/hight/weight and he was the aggressor he dictated the pace , he outclassed him ! ppl need to realize that not only he is older he also fights at a constant size disadvantage which is usually HUGH in boxing.
The guy is a warrior and a legend and ppl should give him credit and enjoy his last fights instead of giving us "but thurman would kill him" nonsense ...
I thought he looked damn good last night. He took a few solid shots but took them well. If he picks up one or two WW belts in the same convincing fashion I wouldn't be surprised now if Mayweather gives him the rematch he wants and they cash in.

:hail::hail:
He's still a top 5 WW. Some people need to be carried out of the ring to stop boxing. I'm sure money is part of it but I think Manny still wants to compete.

I think it has to do with the fact that he didnt really fear getting hit by Vargas. I think if he fought Thrman or Spence, he wouldnt be doing that. Example: the way pac fought oscar compared to the way he fought Hatton.
There was a little of that, but there was also Pac not knowing how to get inside without catching that right hand to the face. You can tell Jesse drilled that move because so many times, when Pac would try to set something up with the jab, Jesse would just shoot that right immediately. After a while, he had no choice but to respect his power and actually start doing something different.

Manny is really fast, hes always lunged in like that but alot of guys find it hard to time him because he does it so quickly and he is very unpredictable, before they can react hes already hit them and side stepped out of the way . Only the best guys have been able to actually time him and exploit that weakness. Floyd did it and marquez gave him fits. Both great counter punchers.
