This was at lightweight when Floyd was prime. Floyd came out strong, using his speed. Castillo starts investing to the body in the middle rounds, trapping and forcing Floyd to go toe to toe. Easily one of the best fights of the past decade. In the late rounds however Castillo clearly swept it as Floyd got desperate.
Castillo fought a prime undefeated Floyd at lightweight and most analysts had Castillo out-throwing and out-landing Floyd 115-111 to 117-109. Floyd put up a hell of a fight, but the BLUEPRINT was laid.
simply put AMAZING, what more can you ask for?
Castillo, who at best was a second tier fighter put some serious leather on Mayweather but it was far from a great fight. It never had the drama that a truly great fight should have. I'm thinking of Mosley/DLH, Khan/Maidana, Pac/JMM 1 and 4, Barrera/Morales 1 (result was probably the wrong one) and so on.
I feel very strongly about this fight. I think Castillo did enough to retain his title. He lost the rematch.
He put a lot of pressure on Floyd. Floyd got pressed big time. PAC, Corrales, Marquez, couldn't bring the heat like Castillo brought.
Floyd destroyed Gatti, and Corrales.
PAC was easy money, Marquez even easier, it is what it is.
It's over now, Floyd is retired, PAC is out there fighting B plus fighters now.
Nuff said.
I thought Castillo beat Mayweather in fight 1, and Mayweather without doubt won fight 2, yet the scores for the 2nd fight were closer than the scores for the first fight.
Fight #1
Judge: Anek Hongtongkam 116-111
Judge: John Keane 115-111
Judge: Jerry Roth 115-111
Fight #2
Judge: Ken Morita 115-113
Judge: Larry O'Connell 116-113
Judge: Daniel Van de Wiele 115-113
That's because those judges graduated straight out of the Clinton School of Ethics.

He'd never been KO'd Boxrec warrior.
I'm sure I explained this to you like 5 years ago.
yea I think they were all stoppages due to cuts up to that point
castillo had been ko'd 4 times already when he fought floyd. talk about a cherry pick gone wrong

floyd tore his rotator cuff yet they had the rematch 5 and a half months later...thats some amazing iv healing power!
Yeah that's too suspicious. Even if he would have had the surgery right after the fight, he would have been in throwing punches in training 2 months later??? Doesn't add up.
Castillo won the first fight, Joy won the rematch.
Very true.
I always say, whether you think Floyd won or lost, a lot of fighters would have taken that W and ran with it. Same as the Maidana first fight, Floyd won that but it was a hell of a rough night for him but he took him on again to win more clearly.
A lot of fighters should take note i.e. Canelo, he would never dream of getting in with Lara again to prove he's the better fighter.
to clinch more clearly yes
If boxing was perfect, with perfect judges, Floyd wins 7-5. You can not lose the first 5 rounds, rack up most of your punches in the next 5 rounds, and then ease off in the championship rounds. Castillo had an amazing rounds 6-10 iirc, that's where he really stacked on his compubox punches. But outlanding someone, for example, 300 punches to 250, but the majority of those punches came in a limited number of greats rounds, while the guy who landed 250 punches landed them in 7 rounds where he won, doesn't mean you won
Like paying a credit card 3 times a month, doesn't mean it's going to count for paying 3 statements...So you paid your card 3 times, good for you, we still got another statement for you next month (if you have a balance). Castillo doing great in 5 rounds, in landed punches, doesn't mean he won the next 3 rounds automatically...he still has to put in work for 7 of 12 rounds to win the fight. When I use compubox in my argument for a fight, I make sure to do it round by round, not overall (not saying you in particular are using cbox as your argument)
why would you use compubox in an argument? hey guys here are some inaccurate numbers to prove my case!
Difference is Floyd was saying during the fight his arm was hurting... Pac wasn't... not that I don't believe him.
hard to believe this guy was crying

If only boxing was fair, Castillo would have that W, one of the most coveted in the sport ever.
He was cheated twice; Corrales.

Castillo is by far one of the most underrated guys of the last 25 years.
Tremendous skill set for being labeled "typical Mexican fighter". From 99-2005 he had p4p skills.. just rewatched the Corrales fight last night and watching jlc go body, head, body with a triple jab followed by a short straight right.. just great stuff from an inside fighter.. u don't see guys like Hatton, margarito, etc doing stuff like that..
Def a hall of famer in my eyes
