Canelo made his splash on American soil in March of 2011 defeating tough B level Welter Mathew Hatton by unanimous decision for the vacant WBC junior middle weight title. He then made four defenses against faded names(Rhodes,Mosley,Cintron, and Gomez) before facing former jw contender Jose Lopez.Next he made his first legit defense against Trout, many fans were shocked by the wide scores, some felt he was out worked. He was then routed by Mayweather, and got a tko over a shot Angulo.Next was curious scorecards again vs Lara, shot Kirkland, war torn small Cotto,s mall Khan and green Liam Smith. So, champ or Chump?
We've only ever seen Canelo face C level guys. Let's wait till he faces real opposition before we make a decision on this red headed up and comer, fellows.
Wtf...
The dude has gradually upped his competition, from a teenage hype job to fighting old veterans like baldomir and mosely,, to fighting top caliber guys like lara, floyd, trout, cotto..
Anyone that has wins over Cotto, lara, trout isn't a chump
This Rio olympics showed a lot of fresh talent, the expectations are high on Shakur who was touted as the future of boxing by Mayweather, Crawford, Ward, etc...
I hope he can be big but we both know pro is not same as olympic some spectacular fails happed, but have Shakur some fallowing in US like ray or Oscar also Ali when he won gold?
The only person that can compete with the "face of boxing" title in drawing power department sure is Anthony Joshua, right now.
In the future i would give Spence a chance, but will see what happens whit the olympians tho.
Oscar, Leonard, Mayweather, Roy, Lennox, all were olympians and were the face of boxing in their time.
Also they where popular right after going pro like oscar or Rey Leonard, there wasnt fighter like this in USA for some time now.
Ofc its duck, but i think this fight will finaly happen:boxing:
I'll believe it when tickets go on sale. Until then, it's the same fruitless speculation we've had for sbout a year now
I am a big critic of Canelo, especially his actions over the last year. At the same time, his championship caliber resume is undeniable. I can't say I agree with the number of catchweight bouts on his resume, but he has been in there with some top level fighters. That still doesn't mean he isn't a duck for calling GGG into the ring, running his mouth like he wanted it, then dropping the belt and starving himself to avoid Gennady.

Thurman can be a little confusing for the fans, the people that follows boxing knows how good he is, but the casual ones (the ones that brings the money) wouldn't find him as good to see as Alvarez for example, because Thurman style isn't really aesthetic.
Beat Garcia and Spence would put him as one of the top 5 best fighters in the world, for sure.
I know it would put him high but i think we dont understand each other here,im lookin for somebody who will replace Canelo as face of boxing in terms of drawing power, and i Cant see anybody but AJ in UK.
There is no debating Canelo has an excellent overall resume at this point in his career. And those that would suggest otherwise I'd suggest are biased against Canelo. Although while saying that I do believe there is an expectation that one in Canelo's position should still be fighting better guys than he is as of late. So recent criticism of Canelo's opponents choices shouldn't be reflective of his overall opponent choices.
you are right here,im big fan but smith was joke, his fighting 3 times this in 2017 i hope for someting good in Feb or march.
Loma future stardom possibilities depends on how he looks against Walters.
And yes, you can watch some of his amateur fights as a teenager and see how he was praised by the fighters, commentators and how popular he was.
yea it depends on his performance but Loma will never be bigger star then Alvarez or AJ,what do you think about Thurman if he beat DG and Spence can he level up to Alvarez drawing level?
DeLa Hoya was a savage when he turned pro, beat Ruelas and Leija, both good underrated fighters, under two rounds.
Including wins over Whitaker (close), Chavez (past his prime), Quartey (close), 1-1 against Mosley, Camacho (past his prime), Vargas, Castillejo, John John Molina (close), Mayorga a robbery against Tito, a close fight past his prime against a prime Floyd, Forbes, Gatti, etc...
DeLa Hoya wasn't walking trough guys like a monster, but he fought the best and was never humiliated until Pac.
And actually most of his losses and close fights were because he wasn't a gym rat neither had a good corner, but he was a complete boxer, unlike Canelo who complements his deficient as a fighter by mastering his craft; So my point is that Oscar was a freaking massive talent, the guy was so good that at 15 years old he already had a national level fanbase.
And i think we have plenty of talent right now to be the faces of boxing, Joshua, Lomachenko, Valdez, Spence, Lubin, etc...
I agree only with AJ here,he have popularity in UK,Loma is 28 and is no where near a star, his waight class is killing him in this case,Canelo and AJ are fighters with bigger fallowing but both had flaws and opponents who can end theyr run,Agree that Oscar was massive talent,Didnt know about this fallowing when he was 15 wow.
I disagree Oscar was a world beater, until he got old.
Yea what i mean he wasnt undeafeted monster he lost vs some elite fighters but fought everybody,i hope my boy will step up im trierd of this ****.
but one again who we have?Alvarez is one of the best current fighters for sure.Future face dont need to be world beater,Oscar was face of boxing he was very good but not monster just like Canelo. He beat all decent guys and win some lose some vs Elite. I disagree Oscar was a world beater, until he got old.
You are wrong there, Canelo has been sold as the future of boxing, the best fighter in the world and the successor of Mayweather, for years.

I'm not gonna fault his resume, apart from his pre-Trout days. Post Trout he's been in with some good fighters.
Having said all that, what's his legacy anyway? Against "top" light middle opponents, he is 2-1. His wins over Cotto, Lara and Khan come at a non-existent weight class.
that's my niggle with his resume...his fights have no historical or championship context.
Canelo:
A guy who is either overrated or underrated depending the fan.
The truth is that he is good, but he isn't the future of boxing at all.
He has overrated power, underrated speed, underrated skills, awful footwork, huge strenght, awful stamina and great combinations with decent feints.
The truth is that he doesn't have a career defining performance and don't bring the age issue cause at his age most of the fighters that really were the faces of boxing in their time, they had a career defining performance.
He hasn't a big win and all his top wins were close.
But he is good, if he was given the respect he DESERVES, he surely can be a big thing, the GGG stuff really hurt his reputation, even in mexico
But yeah, he is a good fighter, he clearly isn't a 154 or even a middleweight, but the guy can fight, it's just that he isn't as good as people thinks.
Nobody said he is World beater,we talking resume here and it holds up to all present ones, maybe he is not future but who we have ? Maybe he will give big ppv fight to future star? Who knows i cant see anybody now.

You should chill it's really starting to effect your overall writing. Canelo has a plethora of shot former champs on his resume. If you remove them then he barely has anyone. I hope that you don't Facepalm too much you may damage what little brain sells you have left.
