Canelo is a natural 154/155-pounder, and he's also the A-side of these affairs. So if GGG wants a fight so bad, then why is he demanding that Canelo be the one to move up? Instead, he should be the one to make concessions and drop down to Canelo's weight instead, not unlike so many great boxers have had to do in the past to secure big fights. Because as it stands, Canelo could remain at 154 for years and he'd still have plenty of great fights that could be booked without ever needing to fight GGG to have a good opponent:
The Charlo brothers (Jermall and Jermell) - Both undefeated, and both world champions.
Demetrius Andrade - Undefeated.
Julian "Jrock" Williams - Undefeated.
Miguel Cotto - The first fight was so close that a rematch shouldn't be completely ruled out.
Erislandy Lara - World champipn, and their first fight was so close that a rematch shouldn't be out of the question here either.
Kell Brook - Has repeatedly said that he's a natural 154-pounder and that he may even vacate the IBF Title to make a permanent move there.
Shawn Porter and Errol Spence Jr. - Have both said they'd be willing to move up to 154 to fight Canelo.
So somebody tell me exactly why the lesser star with more to prove is somehow the good guy in all of this?
they were mandated to fight. canelo ran. and you are on the side of the guy who ran away? remember if negotiations weren't going well canelo could have gone to purse split and taken the lions share but he wasn't even willing to do that so you can't possibly blame ggg for asking for too much. 25 percent is too much now? even bum khan got more than that. use your brain come on.
Im a big GGG fan, but the fact is his team is just putting roadblocks on this match
instead of trying to make it possible
Canelos team offer is fair, all things considered
this match wont even sell as much as Canelo-Cotto

Because HBO and the boxing press that is the orbit in the US (Rafael/Kim/'Golden Boy Magazine'/etc), has got the biggest hard-on for a foreign fighter since Manny Pacquiao came in as the smiling offensive dynamo (with so many skeletons in his closet that folks would be embarrassed if things were actually talked about).
Golovkin is built up as a smiling "Ivan Drago", and the continuance of that image trumps anything else in the eyes of the "boxing press".
Alvarez has the popularity that he's been able to cultivate in Mexico/Spanish speaking audiences, but the fact that he's had fights with folks like Lara, Floyd, and Trout (where he pulled it out in 2 of the 3, but looked nothing like a wrecking machine), the "boxing press" jumped ship.
Golovkin perpetuates a fantasy, so they'll push him until that comes up snake eyes (note how none of these "boxing scribes" ever mention p4p-level fighters fighting Golovkin, at any weight).

I think the problem a lot of people have with 155lbs is that most don't believe Canelo is a natural 154lber. He uses his age to be able to squeeze down to 154lbs and eventually it will blow up in his face if he continues to do this. If it was 157 or 158 I think a lot of people would agree thats a lot more reasonable. Personally I don't like catchweights too much but when it seems to be a blatant tactic to try and drain the opponent and gain an advantage it becomes a real issue. I hated the idea of GGG fighting Ward at 164 because even though it was in the middle, it was obvious that Ward couldn't make that and be healthy. Pacquiao saying he'd fight Mosley at 142lbs was another example.

While GBP and Canelo are not without blame in this, they DO have a point about GGG and his team swagging around as though he and Canelo are equals in terms of popularity, resume, future options, drawing ability, and 'juice' within the industry.
Has GGG made ANY concessions to make this fight happen (catchweight, purse split)? Has GGG done anything to raise his profile to make this fight bigger?
These guys are not at the same level. And GGG and his supporters need to recognize that. Hating on Canelo won't change that.
