Folks this madness needs to stop. Sergio Martinez was the Lineal Middle wgt champion of the world, lost it to Cotto (cotto becomes the lineal champ), Cotto loses it to Canelo (Canelo becomes lineal champ). Now Canelo refuses to fight GGG, and then goes as far as to relinquish the title refusing to fight GGG. For that action alone he is not & should not be considered the lineal champion. For crying out loud, he is precisely ducking GGG. This is the primary reason why there is such a thing as the lineal champ. It's the man that beat the man that beat the man. Not, the man that beat the man, that ducked the man.
I am not a GGG fan, in fact I will be rooting for Jacobs if they fight. This is just straight up boxing talk.

Alvarez gave up the title lineage when he left the division; Alvarez not being beat closed thing but, I'd imagine, a champion who would hold the WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO belts would then be seen as the unified/lineal champ at the weight.
Nope wrong again. In your defense it is ridiculous that Canelo is still lineal, and there's never been an undisputed champ that wasn't lineal. For once the rule is wrong, and you're morally right, just wrong on the facts
You can't have 2 lineal champs at the same.time, clueless

The moment that Alvarez no longer wanted the WBC belt, Golovkin and his camp should've made the move to re-establish the lineage (with the Saunders unification fight).

Really?...you're entitle to your belief, but what happens when it's the other way around? what happens when it's your favorite fighter that is being avoided? Dude...he refused to fight GGG & then relinquished his belt. I mean ...yes he was the lineal champ, but the minute you dumped & refused to fight the next top dog...it's over!

I like both Golovkin and Canelo, you can look at vacating the belt in two ways, ducking or not wanting to give the B-Side 45%
Martinez, Cotto and Canelo were all sort of pretend lineal middleweight champs anyway. Middleweight has always been 160. Martinez was a big 154 pounder who defended his lineal title against Jr middleweight Williams at 157 while avoiding number 1 challenger GGG. Martinez lost the title to Cotto at a weight limit of 159. Cotto sat on the title for a full year before fighting Geale who had recently been destroyed by GGG in 3 rounds. Cotto like Martinez, refused to fight GGG but fought Geale at a catchweight of 157. Then Cotto lost the ever shrinking lineal middleweight title to Canelo at a weight limit of 155. Canelo KOed Khan at a weight limit of 155 and then gave up his title to GGG who should have been the lineal middleweight champ years ago. The last three lineal middleweight champions played keep away with their title as far as GGG was concerned. Now GGG is both the lineal champion and the best middleweight in the world and that's the way it was meant to be. Jacobs will very likely be his next title defense. Jacobs is the best and most deserving challenger and whoever wins that fight is a great lineal middleweight champion.
GGG is not lineal, lineage was broken when Canelo moved down top two will establish lineage Jacobs vs GGG.
My personal belief is that lineal title shall not change hands at some catchweight fights. The last full-limit fight where one lineal champ beaten another was Martinez-Pavlik. Then Martinez retired as far as lineal championship fights are concerned. Neither Cotto nor Canelo are real MW champions. New lineage shall be established. Maybe one could consider GGG-Lemieux as the fight for new lineage. Maybe it will be GGG-Jacobs. Canelo said on multiple occasions that he is not a middleweight. This is my take on it anyway...
I agree wholeheartedly. I dont think any title should be contested at a catch. I believe catchweights should only be used for fighters from different divisions and that the catchweight should be right in the middle of the two weights. I also think Golovkin v Jacobs should establish a new lineage at MW
Oscar decides who is the lineal MW Champ since he basically owns the Ring and the Ring belt which is considered the lineal belt. Funny though that the lineal MW champion says he is no real MW, never fought at 160 and fought a welter and junior welter in his last fights and never beat a legit Middleweight in his entire career.
Some of these guys hate GGG so much that theyd rather call a duck the MW champ than simply give credit where credit is due. Its ridiculous to fathom that the man who gave away his belt and ran to another division be called the champ. Champions fight, b itches run

wait!
Lil'g didn't mention alvarez in the post ring brook fight even after kellerman asked as usual.
Apparently the lineal is not important to lil'g anymore!
he wants to unify the division doe
they ducking doe
they want to much money doe
The fans know who the real champ is, that's all that matters really.
who is the real champ?
Canelo was the last lineal champion and moved down
GGG has 3 trinkets..only 1 he actually fought for and has 1 win out of the current top ten
BJS and Jacobs have a trinket as well but the have 2 wins a piece over current top ten middleweights.
as of today.......their is no middleweight champion
GGG is arguably the # 1 contender
until he beats # 2 or canelo, the title is vacant....same goes for BJS and Jacobs
to be the champ they got to eliminate the other top 2 guys besides themselves
champions are made in the ring....not message board....or conference rooms
Canelo is the Lineal champ as we speak
