Don't get me wrong I love his input. He gives a great insight to what is actually going on in the ring and points out the little adjustments both guys are making but you can never hear him.
Everytime he talks that irritating twerp Adam Smith butts in and talks over him.
Surely I'm not the only one who finds this irritating as f*ck.
Its not just Adam Smith either its the entire commentary team during the GGG vs Brook fight for example there was literally 4 guys talking over each other the whole time.
Paulie was the only one I was even listening to. He was accurate and seemed unbiased, giving good insights from a boxers point of view. He would talk about openings and mistakes be saw, and adjustments being made. The only thing of value I heard from Froch was when he said (in the 4th I think), that it looked like Brook had broken his orbital bone
That was Paulie, not Froch.

Yeah, Paulie and Al Bernstein are currently the best. But Mauro Ranallo drags them down.
Roy Jones isn't bad. Hopkins is a little dry but does provide some insight.
Lampley is horrible these days.
Kellerman is passionate about the history of the sport but doesn't come across as knowing the nuts and bolts that well.
For some reason I actually liked Jim Watt. Hearing his voice made it seem like a fight was exciting and a big deal to the UK audience.
Most boxing commentators are horrible. I don't get how some of these guys get hired in the first place & how some have been in the business so long. I don't watch anything except combat sports so idk what other sports are doing, but watching the UFC you see Rogan & Goldie in the moment during every fight actually breaking down the fight & the action. In boxing that virtually never happens & you'll have guys talking about fights in the future that they wanna see or how this fight sucks for x, y or z reason or they are just talking about random boxing stories that have lil to nothing to do with the fight.
You could legit hire a couple reddit boxing RBR guys & get a better overall boxing experience that discusses what is happening & why thats important & what it means, etc & so on than most of these guys who have been phoning it in for a decade or longer. I'd fire these old crusty mfers so fast if I was running any boxing show.
All that said Paulie is a good one, Bernstein is the man, I grew up on O'Grady, Nelson & some of those other UK guys are very solid & on average I tend to view the UK teams as better cuz they can talk about the action & seem to have a genuine passion for the sport which is more than I can say for many of the US guys.
Ranallo may be annoying sometimes, but he, Bernstein, and Paulie are easily the best commentating team. Most the time they are a real pleasure to listen to and make watching the fight better.
Every UK broadcast I've heard typically sounds like a group of fanboys deluding themselves about the home fighter. Not surprised to hear the same here. At a certain point I just started ignoring it.
They had a guy a little while a go, I cant remember his name or the card he was on, who was great. Really sounded like he knew his boxing.
Even came out with a great Sam Langford anecdote. Havent heard him since though.
Hope they get him back on because he was lightyears ahead of Smith.
Thank god Halling and Watt have gone though. Mccrory is presumably gone for the time being due to his discretions.
McCory got sacked for the drunk rampage
I Read they are bringing more people in

That's like a JRE fight companion lol
As much as I hate Paulie's voice & his gum chewing like talk, he is a good observant & points out mistakes & changes the fighter makes.. Froch is boring & Adam Smith though good is another person who is amp'ed up like Jim TWat even for a glancing blow.. HBO has its share of hype commentators & Sky has 1 more than HBO.. Its better to see the fights on mute..

Sky sports is brutal. If you only listened to the audio without video you would think the British fighter won every round of every fight they broadcast
If you're listening to the audio and watching It It was still clear that Brook only won one round in that fight but sure they do love to slurp on their promoted fighters I don't get it I don't think boxing is a sport you should be rooting for just your own country man.
Yeah when you bring that up it was quite annoying but I was too focused on the fight to care whatever rubbish they were spouting.
2 to 3 is the max amount of people you should have in commentary and Adam Smith is taking over the reigns of sh1t commentating for Jim Watt

Turn the sound off and concentrate on what your watching.
You'll learn a lot more about the fighters and the sport without listening to
"promo" throughout the telecast.
Paulie does a good job giving a boxers insight, Manny did a nice job from a corners view but there hasn't been a really good action/color commentators in years.
None of the current crop can come close to Don Dunphy, he was a pro and learned his craft doing radio then TV. Cool calm and collected and NEVER showed favorites!
When a boxing show opened up with Johnny Addie handling the ring intro's then Don calling the fight you felt like you were hearing the highest level of commentary.
Why listen to people who don't have any insight to the sport.
Jim Lampshade is the worst the guy sounds like he's going to feint at the sight of a little blood. Max should NEVER interview fighters after they fight he has NO Clue what to say.
Turn the sound off and get deeper into the sport, yes it takes more concentration but you'll learn things!

It annoys me having to mute I love hearing decent input and the atmosphere especially with a crowd like that but sometimes you just have no choice.
I actually thought Jim Watt retiring was for the best dare I say its been even worse since he retired.
I really do find Adam Smith butting in with absolute nonsense absolutely unbearable. You know its bad when motormouth Paulie goes quiet just to let him talk.
Yeah I hate it too but I lose braincells everytime I hear words like 'top operator' every 20 seconds.
In general, most people in boxing don't know **** about the sport, that includes pundits, journalists, commentators etc. Pauli is the only guy who actually understands what he's watching and goes into details about every punch thrown, why it was thrown, how a certain feint set it up etc instead of saying the usual generic **** like 'oooh great punch' or 'oooh great right hand'.
Whenever I'm watching boxing on UK channels, the first thing I do is hit the mute button. Our guys are even worse than the likes of Lederman, Lampley etc and that takes some doing.

There was 3 people all talking at the same time on Saturday. It was terrible.
2 is enough. 3 is ok as long as one only talks between rounds or asked a question maybe but not having them all talking whenever they choose.
The HBO ones are just as bad though. Sometimes they ramble stories and completely miss the action thats going on in the ring. I remember Floyd v Ortiz, at the start of one round, Floyd was unloading his first combination in years and tagging Ortiz and the HBO team were talking about some childhood story or something.
Sky are sometimes OK. Smith can be pretty good at making the viewer feel the action but sometimes it's too much, especially when the fighter he's basically supporting has some success. Same as Lampley, he was no better with when someone like Pac was fighting. Remember BANG BANG BANG BANG, when Clottey blocked every shot haha.
I agree, completely. I watched the fight back yesterday (I was at the o2 on Saturday), and found Smith and Froch infuriating.
Smith is a nice guy, sure, and he knows boxing, but he's so hyperbolic.
Froch was worse still, and frankly added nothing as a co-commentator - apart from stating the obvious.
Paulie was great throughout, but, sadly, his insights didn't prompt discussion.
They need to figure out how this new dynamic is going to work. At the moment it appears massively disjointed.
Paulie usually is a good commentator.
