HBO/Main Events would be aware of this and especially Duva because she played the mandatory game with IBF costing Fury to vacate the title.. With Andre Ward owing nothing to anyone, Roc Nation Sports can take the Kovalev-Ward rematch and put the fight on the open market; if HBO brings the most money, so be it, but be clear that there not getting the fight for less than what the market views the fight being worth. Golovkin turned pro at the age of 24; if you honestly think that every pro fighter who turns over late in their twenties is simply going to be able to be a world-level operator in the early 40's you're fooling yourself. They are pretty much at the top of the division. If one clearly wins with no need of a rematch, where does he go from there? That is always pending on how the fight is. If it is a barn burner the rematch is the biggest fight out there. If it is a one sided the winner may go for Stevenson which at that point will be a bigger fight than before. Pray that there are no head clashes that it gets stopped on a cut or a foul.

With Ward's deal with HBO finished, I doubt that Duva agrees to let Ward dictate the TV (which will leave her risking her company's relationship with HBO), putting the notion of a rematch in doubt. Beyond that, Beterbiev is already 31, Gvodzyk is 29, and Bivol is 25; in 2-3 years the odds that two of your three are already on their way out isn't all that unheard of. I don't consider 175 a good division by any stretch, it is Good at the Top with two Top P4P Talents already and loser will still be Top 5-10 P4P IMO with the winner being #1 but after them WTF is left? I don't put Stevenson in the same category with those guys, absolutely NOT and he is not getting any young. With that being said, Stevenson has looked excellent his last 2 fights so of course I want to see him vs the winner of this fight still but time is running out for him It will be interesting though, I personally can't wait to see how that fight plays out but also the after effects!

Roc Nation has no issue with Showtime, Andre Ward is free of HBO after the Kovalev fight, and Kathy Duva's actions have made it utterly clear that she's not up for negotiating the fight. Ward goes to Showtime, set the stage for the fight for early 2017/summer 2017 on SHOPPV/Canadian PPV (depending on any possible hangups about mandatory challengers, which I doubt). If Ward wins that fight, he's got all of the belts, is the kingpin of 175, and arguably the money fight at the weight class (with the likely backing of MGM Resorts/Barclays Center/Oracle Arena). With money being at a premium, I have no doubt that Showtime's commitment to boxing, in addition to the various 175 fighters in their orbit, sways the deal for Ward/Roc Nation.

If Ward wins, his HBO contract is fulfilled and he can hopefully jump over to fight Stevenson on PBC. He'll probably take a less stellar fight in between. If Kovalev wins, then there will be a short term outcry for a Stevenson unification and a better chance than has yet existed to make the fight. The main reason Duva walked away from the purse bid was almost definitely to avoid risking the Ward fight, and Stevenson has absolutely no reason to avoid Kovalev anymore. I still don't think it happens, though. LHW has some up and comers to take on in the near future, so we'll keep an eye out for them.
