Man, Inoue was getting clipped in there. He doesn't generate enough lower body explosiveness from his feet to his hips--where all of your power comes from. He stands too straight up and doesn't uncork like he could if he just changed some things up. He won't win in the pocket fighting like that against Gonzalez. I think Inoue is talented, but, he is too green to beat Roman at this point. I mean, I won't say Inoue struggled in there with the Thai, but, he struggled. Halfway through the fight he seemed to revert back to boxing on the outside because it almost seemed like he didn't know what to do. He won't be able to handle the type of pressure and offensive skill set Roman puts on him round after round. And towards the end, he was simply swinging it out with the Thai because I think he literally just ran out of options. If I'm Inoue's team, I wait a couple of years before I put him in with Roman to see if Roman slows down some and for Inoue to mature as a fighter.
Inoue would be more competitive if he boxed on the outside and used his speed but based on how he fights, he'll try to go to war with Roman. And that ain't gonna win him the fight. Kid is really talented but Roman is a truly great fighter.
I honestly only seen Roman fight a few times but I don't see what everyone seeing. His skill set seems limited and his defense is really lacking. The only thing I see special for him and I mean truly special is his stamina and probably his chin. His defense can be worked on and doesn't have the footwork a lot of smaller guys normally have.
If it's based on skills and skills only he'll probably be like 5th or 6th on my "p4p" list. Inuoe would be no where top ten though dude is raw and doesn't have stamina for a 12 round fight yet.
It's an easy fight to predict. Inoue get his ass kick. Inoue doesn't have the stamina nor the workrate to hang with Roman.

It wouldn't be brutal. Inoue is smaller than Yaegashi. Yaegashi was Roman's toughest fight to date and he still got waxed. I thought the Estrada fight was good but Estrada really faded the last few rounds and Roman won pretty handily IMO. Viloria had his moments but he could not keep Roman off of him.
If Inoue was smart, he'd use his fast hands and his jab to try and keep Roman at bay but he likes to bang and he will get his ass kicked in the pocket against Roman. Roman simply knows how to drive punches better and gets better leverage on his shots. Inoue's best punch is his left hook to the body because he gets good leverage and speed when he really goes for it.
But, Inoue throws a lot of arm punches where he's basically standing straight up and the punches don't have much on them. I know that Inoue is in a higher weight class, but, he has a VERY slight build. He is not bigger than Roman at all--taller, but not more massive.
I think Inoue has a lot of talent, but, it hasn't been cultivated enough to beat a guy like Roman. Roman could possibly ruin Inoue before he ever really gets started.
Inoue literally had to pull out all of his tricks in his bag to get rid of the Thai fighter yesterday and it really wasn't that great of a look for him. Roman is just too seasoned and too good.
I chose "brutal" because I think Roman would have the clear upper hand and Naoya wouldn't fold right away and would take a sustained beating.
I think you're right.
It will be a great fight, but they should give Inoue a couple more fights before going against Gonzalez.
If Gonzalez is to beat Cuadras and Gonzalez/Inoue was the next match then Roman would win in a brutal fight.

Agree with everything you wrote.
His performance vs a tiny & heavily faded Narvaez was one of the most flattering performances of modern times. This kids green as hell and his defense in particular needs some serious work.
Looks big at the weight and has some nice power but I'm really not all that impressed with him in truth.
