I'm actually thinking Vlad was slightly unmotivated. Had some stuff in his personal life too, father time, his missus with some issues, etc. These are psychological aspects that potentially oughtn't be written off as being insignificant. We need the rematch to give final answers in this saga.
He's old now. His lighting jab and killer right hand was enough to get through anybody and the fact that he couldn't hurt Fury tell's me he's just old.
he finally fought someone who wasnt smaller than him that he could clinch and lean on, was nothing to do with age or anything else
Did Wlad have some kind of special size advantage over or employ more than average clinching and leaning tactics on Jefferson, McCline or Austin? This is what I mean. So many guys would rather write off Fury if not both of them than just say yeah Fury has skills. Well, sorry, he has serious skills and he has to be taken seriously about his skill level if nothing else or you can't be considered credibly objective.
He looked horrible in the Jennings fight also, Fury came at the right time
"Wlad didn't get old overnight but..."
I said it wasn't overnight. But, and, but, BUT, did Wlad look anything like the guy people thought would get decisively outpointed by Fury? Jennings was regarded fairly well, and he should've been. Fury didn't just win on Wlad's age. He was more talented than generally fans wanted to believe. He was going to get starched early and easily. He was a bum. He was all talk. Now what? Reality has spoken. Yes, Wlad is an old fighter, no Wlad didn't go from dominating planet Earth to a walking mummy from Pulev to Jennings. Fury was not a bum. Fury was not all talk. Fury was not starched early, not starched easily, not starched at all, and won fair and square. That is my opinion. I'll even be having some others in the future. I haven't decided what they are yet.

90% of Wlad's resume is filled with stationary targets, completely out of shape, mobile fighters have always given him trouble because he struggles to land that slow right hand. Wlad has no inside fighting ability either, Fury's body was wide open all night, even Wilder is vastly superior inside fighter, Wlad just isn't very good. Fury also neutralized his signature illegal holding which Wlad is completely dependent on to control range against smaller fighters as well as tire them out.
Wlad is an amateurish fighter, if he was in a lower weight class he'd be a Postol without his inside fighting, he's that bad.
What do you think happened to Wlad in the Fury fight? Why did he look so bad? Is he just old?
Fury happened to Wlad. A superior fighter, and a once in a generation talent. A monster. A real killer.
He has always had problems with fighters who can move and keep his jab tentative. Wlad always looks like crap against the best fighters he fights. Fury not only was able to do that, he had the size and skill to take advantage of the flaws Wlad exposes against someone who can move and keep his jab tentative. Add in Wlad's age and it was the perfect storm for Fury.
He fought a guy that could match his size and jab, didn't take fury serious, and was passive..
Rematch I expect Wlad to be much more aggressive and really let the power shots go.
WLad had been cruising along for a decade using the same strategy of keeping guys at bay with jab, and being able to wear them down with size in the clinches.. He couldn't do that vs fury
His just on a downwards trajectory in his career. His body isn't the same anymore. He probably looms in the same shape but it's not the same at all. Fury was there at the right time. Not to take anything away from fury's win not a lot of other heavyweights would have still beat him.
Wlad didn't get old overnight but nothing happened, Fury is just more talented than people wanted to believe.
