Now don't get me wrong, to those of us who love the sweet science, that was a good pub brawl we saw tonight :boxing: . But I look at Santa-Cruz with his height and reach advantages and just shake my head at the tactics he employed. The bottom line is this brawling style only gets you so far and reduces your shelf life with each war you partake in. A good technician would have kept Carl at range with a stiff jab and countered him when he lunges in, which he does frequently.
We all like to see blood and thunder, I get it, but the more this sport moves forward the more apparent it becomes that the so called "boring runners" are the smartest mother f#ckers in the game, full stop.
This is a sport not a toughman contest
Mexican style is nothing but cannon fodder for the American Style.
The best and biggest money makers in the sport never fought the Mexican Style.
ODLH - No Mexican Style
Floyd - No Mexican Style
Manny - No Mexican Style
Cotto - No Mexican Style
Canelo - No Mexican Style
Fighting to prove how tough you are instead of displaying your abilities to neutralize your opponent's best attribute(s) is dumb. Competitive bouts breeds excitement not b*tch fighting (cat fighting). This is a sport not a toughman contest

the "mexican style" employed by JMM, morales, finito lopez, sanchez, et al, is the most beautiful style in boxing
Ukraine and Cuba have the most beautiful styles.
Americans are the most efficient.
As much as I would like to claim Mexican style... I am Mexican.
I want to re name it...
Being a fvcking man.
it is not exclusive to Mexicans. Many fighters have a warriors heart...
Many boxer's have a ballerina's tutu.
It is what it is.
The Mexican school is not efficient. Gvozdzyk tried to fight like a Mexican and almost got knocked out by a c level fighter.
Boxers always win.
Lomachenko tried to fight Salido Mexican style and got bullied. Gamboa toyed with him.
Mexican style is what makes boxing exciting.
Mexican style means balls = fighters who fight with balls is the reason boxing is alive.
A bunch of safety first fighters will kill the sport.
My fellow Mexicano explains facts to fools. Pink azz Phaggots like Tago, Alexkid, looking for the chorizo to ride.
War mo fo's.
If that was the case it would be GGG, Kovalev, Santa-Cruz etc pulling in millions of viewers on ppv, not the likes of Floyd.
The 'likes' of Floyd? No. There's just Floyd pulling in the millions - Lara? Rigo? Slicksters who ain't doing so well in the popularity stakes. No, the point is that not every one has the ability to pull off slick defensive wizardry - to be able to do it at the top level is really quite rare, but those who can are amongst the top in the sport.
Of course, there is also, and always has been a number of equally talented offensive fighters, also technically brilliant in there own way, if stylistically different. Pressure and volume on the offensive is often characterised as basic brawling, but it doesn't have to be, and when practiced by a technically sound fighter is every bit as effective at winning fights.
I think some people have a very simplistic view of "the Mexican style". It's simply not just mindless brawling. The best Mexican fighters have very sound fundamentals. I dare say, I actually thought Frampton looked more "Mexican" than Santa Cruz yesterday.
This^^^ Frampton fights like a Marquez/Cotto amalgamation almost.

Yeah when i think of guys like Morales, Barrera, Sanchez, Chavez sr etc i think of great boxers who want to cause hurt.
Great fundamentals, great 'pro' defence (might take punches, but the steam is often taken off with head movement and anticipation), combination punching, technique etc etc. All the stuff that makes a great pro fighter.
The main thing which makes it a 'mexican' style to me, is that these f*ckers take all that ability and technique, and use it to cause real pain for their opponents.
No, the brawler, pressure fighter style (if thats what OP is getting at) will always work in pro boxing. It would work better with more power friendly gloves, and refs that didnt allow excessive clinching, but it will still work.
Santa Cruz just isnt that great a practitioner of it. His engine is elite, he has good height and long levers, but technique wise he is poor, and he lacks any real power at the top level.

It's a phrase people use, that's it, it's not a technical term.
You will call a swarmer and a brawler/slugger "Mexican Style" even though they are different styles of fighting. Basically you're calling anyone who comes forward and isn't a boxer or a boxer-puncher "Mexican Style".
No no-one said anything about a "swarmer"..I was talking about front foot heavy, come forward fighters who usually throw an accumulation of punches. To me, that is the definition of "Mexican style". And that's exactly what Santa-Cruz was doing last night hence the title of this thread...nothing to do with "race baiting".
I thought he was beating Frampton in 0 distance. Should have brawled all the way, pressing in.
Maidana has a smart Mexican style infact, vs Morrales you see.
The Mexican style is entertaining and it has its place. It is very entertaining. It works well when it features a Mexican style boxer is matched up against a boxer who is not very skilled. However, when a boxer with the Mexican style fights a highly skilled boxer, the Mexican style will always come up short.
Shut up, idiot. The Mexican style really is fight more offensive, not matter the style.
Lopez, Marquez, Sanchez, Chavez, Barrera, Morales, they were exciting fighters but they were skillful fighters too.
Santa Cruz is a brawler with a little of skills.
And this fight was a draw.
If this isn't a bait thread then you're more of an idiot than I suspected.
"Mexican style" is just a term, essentially means being a warrior in the ring, it isn't literally a style of fighting you dolt. Plus, LSC isn't that great of a fighter, comes forward with his high volume of arm punching without much of anything else. Not the best example to use.
It IS a style of fighting you thick pr/ck. No-one describes JMM's style as "Mexican style" even though he is a Mexican and showed plenty of heart and warrior spirit. But they would describe Barrera and Morales as Mexican style simply because they were come forward, pressure fighters in the main...so go do your research before chatting such rubbish fool :smashfrea .
But they do pull in viewers, even if it's not on PPV. So wtf are you yapping about? So if that's the case, why doesn't Lara, Rigo, and Ward have a big following? People don't even know who they are. LOL. Sweet science, doe.:boxing:
Er you said "mexican style saves boxing" and yet the man who makes the most money and pulls in the most viewers DOESN'T employ that style...therefore your statement was bullsh/t!!...that's what I'm saying :boxing: .
