So I've vented, said what I needed to say, now I'm ready to talk boxing again.
I look at Kell Brook, while difficult to judge from subpar opposition, has a decent jab, prefers to maintain his distance, has no inside game, but has good timing and can catch you on your way in. Against Porter he had success timing Porter when he tried to close distance and wrapping him up to prevent him from working inside.
In this fight, it just seems like GGG has all of the advantages. He operates at the same distance that Brook loves to fight at, works off a strong jab, commits to the body and is an extremely underrated counter puncher.
What can Brook do to win this fight? I can't think of anything strategy wise that he can execute to trouble GGG.
Only way to beat Golovkin is to either be a better version of Golovkin, or a super slick mover with high workrate, great accuracy and great punch resistance. Or a power puncher that lands the shot of a lifetime before he gets hit too much. Also have to be very strong to lean on him and clinch him. Underhand tactics are probably going to be necessary if these skills are not possessed. Brook needs about a 3 year course of some high-grade USSR/USA beta-test-level not-fit-for-human consumption anabolic-tectonic superman gorilla juice, so he can move around the ring for 12 solid rounds at a weight he's never fought at before.
He would have to be one of the best counter punchers in the game, and/or one of the strongest welterweights in the game. He's neither.
His little chocolate brownie as he likes to call it, will be up his ass by the second round.
A big question is that will Brook give up much of his speed and reflexes jumping two weight classes? Would have been in his best interest to fight a tune up at middleweight first.
The only thing Brook has that's possibly better is th jab.
I guess if he could somehow manage to stick and move that would be his best bet. But GGG is extremely skillful.
With Khan there was a way you could invisage him win. With Brook there's not IMO.
Brook might die in the ring.

He has got to use the same ploy as Lara.. Be on his bicycle all 12 rounds & connect when Golovkin closes the gap & escape.. You cannot trade with Golovkin & get the best of the exchange.. Brook doesn't hit hard enough.. He could not hurt Porter, who was rocked many times by Thurman & Broner dropped him once.. Clinching definitely wont help as Golovkin will be the heavier, stronger man..
As much as I don't like the fight, I want to see how Kell Brook operates at a higher weight because we cannot stay in WW all his career.. Kell Brook is an easy Jr. MW frame guy & I think he might move up to it sooner than I had initially thought..

I seen that fight.... my message was somewhat rhetorical and to the point about NOW. Lil'G gets slower every year. Look at 2011 and now. dude's so slowCome on man. He ain't that slow. For a middleweight Golovkin has average speed. I wouldn't call him slow. Being a huge Dirrell fan I would love to see that fight now. Dirrell still throwing laser beams! Just wish he'd get his act together
in the amateurs? .... points are practical vs getting rocked without padding. what year was that? compare it to nowThat doesn't mean anything. Watch it. Pretty dope fight. Dirrell controls distance, sets traps and counters at will on GGG. GGG does a good a job of finding a way in. Sorry that doesn't suit your silly narrative. And I'm not even a Golovkin fan. Trust me, he can fight a long southpaw. The only difference is the wearing of headgear. Both rock the daylights out of one another.
To me the issue with the fight is for Brook to win he has to call on several skills that he has never shown before, not impossible but also rather unlikely especially in this situation. He had a couple opportunities to show some useful skill to this situation but he went about winning the fights the way he was and didn't really stray.
He might have some extra capabilities, I would have figured he would have made the Porter fight easier for himself if he did but Porter is not exactly an easy guy to fight.
It is like asking someone at random to do a standing back flip, chances of the person getting the job done is pretty slim because even if they have the athletic ability do they have the ability to turn that raw athletic talent into a standing back flip.
From a technical perspective, there's not a lot he can do as his strengths are negated by GGG being taller, significantly bigger, and a FAR more powerful puncher.
Kell won't be as fast as when he's a welter so his defensive opportunities decline here. I think he simply needs to stick a hard shot and move. Repeatedly, not unlike Mayweather's offense. Single shots that keep the opponent from attacking, force him to reset, and keep you out of danger.
Problem is, that's not really his style and he'll have a hell of a time implementing it here. Very narrow path to victory here is what makes this such an awful fight.
There's a few good matches but for the most part I've started watching fewer and fewer fights because they're mostly all pointless. I love watching good prospects face each other and of course stuff like Porter-Thurman but farce fights like this or Champion X vs 20th ranked nobody doesn't interest me at all.
If Kovalev/Ward doesn't happen for some reason (who the f*ck knows what could go wrong, this is boxing), I might have to walk away for a while. What Alvarez and Golovkin have done are exactly why boxing sucks ass and damn near isn't worth supporting anymore, because we're not getting the good fights to make up for the nonsense anymore.
I'm just saying that's the only shot he has. He isn't a stick and move kinda guy and doesn't have a high level of combination punching speed. Brook doesn't even need to out strength GGG, he does have to show GGG he won't be intimidated or back off.
No puncher likes that.
... after two-three rounds with GGG in the ring, Brook will get intimidated for sure... factually intimidated...
Ok, who sparked up Brian Vera better, Korobov or Chavez Jr.?
Did you see what Korobov did to Brian Vera in combinations? That speed...
Lee, his right hook is dangerous. Far more heavier and stockier than Ishida any day of the week, and completely different in skill at 160...
So yeah, since people are referencing the context about Ouma in which I stated, a 154 "slick" and 7 losses coming in against Golovkin going 10 and sparking him up, YES, I know the reason why Abel and Lil'G have avoided top Southpaws.
Lil'G's defense is horrid against Southpaws. Monroe Jr... how many KO's does the kid have? Is he a world champ?
NSB makes it too easy.
You suck at trolling
Brook's strength and speed at 147 are likely not to be conserved at 160... not against GGG at least. Golovkin can easily fight from his back foot for a while (as he did with Lemieux), because he has the best power jab to date... And when GGG decides to start shifting the fight will be over in 10 to 20 seconds or so...
