Is Brook a good win for Golovkin?

Re-visiting this for perspective. Funny how 2 months of hype can change things.

They have a date in 9 weeks. Canelo, Jacobs, Saunders all pass, now this clown Eubank backs out. Brook steps in and takes the same deal. So it's do you pass on 2x career high min on Uk Ppv and slim pickings otherwise 2 months out? See, that's what I don't understand. How did Brook get to this point? When he is more famous than Eubank, and well middleweights in general. Like if this is boxings new modus operandi. Fighters not really taking competitive risks in their respective weight classes but finding money in a higher division and a no hit to their reputation? Haha I'm just shocked a WW with some fame agreed to GGG demands. Khan on the phone : "Oi, Brook, try what I did, short night of work, made some stacks, and best of all I'm still regarded a significant figure in my weight class! Did I mention everyone I walk pass by mentions under their breathe that I have huge balls?"

Yea, I started with an open mind but there's no logical justification. If the guy wasn't consistently criticized (even by his own network) for his resume then it wouldn't be a big deal. But, this is drawing attention to his biggest problem. It's unreasonable to believe that they couldn't find anyone at 154 or 168 to fight. The few fans of his defending it are just making noise because that's all they know how to do. They've never said an objective word about the man. It's an ok win, should be an option on the poll... A middleweight champ beating an undefeated welter champ is not a horrible win... Haglers greatest win ever was ko'ing former welter hearns. Obviously Brook is no hearns, but Golovkin is no hagler.. Same thing with hopkins and tito Depending on what Brook does the rest of career, this could be an epic win for ggg... If Golovkin wins in dominant fashion, then it's an okay/good win over an undefeated welter champ.. The sad thing is that Eubanks, canelo, saunders all ran from fighting Golovkin, and a welter champ like Brook had the balls to step up... Props to Brook,,, even if he gets decimated, he gets my respect for challenging ggg

Canelo is basically a SWW and khan went up 8 pounds. GGG is a full fledge career middleweight dragging Brook up 13 pounds. Brook is bigger, sturdier, plain better than Khan. He was also not cherry picked like Khan, he was offered to them by his promoter after 4 top MWs ducked out in a span of 6 weeks. As far as Brook as an entity alone, it's a win, win for him. Fighting a P4P'er in GGG and in a higher weigh class. Not only does it propel his name and marketability but also his credibility as a fighter. Even when he loses, he will no doubt give GGG a good go. And that's enough to propel his name to the top of the Welterweight division. Now as far as Trip G is concerned. Well, I think it's obvious. It's a lose, lose. I mean come on. The guy is fighting a Welterweight for chris sake. It's not a win win if he ends his career and/or gets seriously damaged

Having a definitive win against a top welterweight has certainly been considered meaningful for a lot of the top middleweights of the past. I guess the goalposts get moved in Golovkin's case.

When I created the poll I had no idea it would be so 1-sided. Aside from the usual suspects (guys who could watch Golovkin rape an old lady and figure out a way to put a positive spin on it) no one thinks this is a good win. I started out completely open minded but the points made here are just too sound too deny. A significantly smaller guy with 1 win and no momentum. Big respect to those Golovkin fans who answered honestly. Something I always push for around here is for people to be more honest about the fighters they support. That's another interesting angle. Brook should be the one getting credit here but many said Khan was just an idiot, so what do those folks say about Brook? To be honest the kindest way to look at it is that there's less than ten weeks until the fight date and it was either this or cancel any Fall fight. I don't know what fighters and venue had been booked for Sept 10th if any but having exhausted all the decent possibilities it only left Lara and there's no guarantee those negotiations wouldn't have been ****ty and long winded either. I don't like it at all but looking at it pragmatically I suppose it was this or no fight at all. Thanks Hearn and Eubank.
