Happy 50th birthday to one of my favourite boxers and idols of all time. Was just curious to see how everyone thinks Mike Tyson would have faired with the massive heavyweights we have nowadays such as:
-Joshua
-Wilder
-Fury
-Klitschko
Just to name a few. Tyson as many are aware was listed as 5"11 and has even been said go have been closer to 5"9. I will let someone else get the ball rolling... :boxing
Oh yeah guys, watch the Jose Ribalta fight...
For those saying he never fought anyone big, besides Lewis, didn't he also fight big guys like Tony Tucker who was 6"5 and 34-0 when Tyson beat him to unify all 4 belts. Tyson did fight several large HWs which people forget about.
He would be fine. I think only Lewis and Vitali beat him.
Theres all this talk about how we have all these huge talented heavyweights these days but most of them are just 220lb men trapped in a fat ass body.
We have 3 highly skilled guys over 240 in Lewis, Wlad and vitali.
Tyson would be fine with Fury. Fury was dropped by Cunningham for ****s sake. He leaves himself wide open, tyson can easily get in the inside on him.
The superheavyweight thing is a myth. We got a lot of guys like arreola and company that are really 220lb men like heavyweights always were who are just fatter these days. Theres only a handful that are big, lean and skilled.
That's a good point. We're used to seeing heavyweights tip the scales at the 240 mark nowadays, and even consider that to be in shape, yet most of these guys are no larger than the heavyweights of the 70s and 80s, frame-wise. Chisora, Arreola, Charr etc should really be no more than 220 if they were in shape, possibly less. Joshua would be in the 230s if he got off the juice. So would Wlad in all probability.
Fury at 245 is about the only legitimate superheavyweight around, barring giants like Wach and Helenius, who are really just big guys. Wilder is a lanky freak who'd lose whatever athleticism he possesses if he bulked up much beyond 230.
I'm no Tyson fanboy but I can easily see him destroying guys today.
Prime Tyson made up for his lack of height with tremendous speed and herky jerky head movement that made him a nightmare to control at range. He also possessed the sort of one punch power that would have crumpled many a fighter today. People forget just how easily Tyson could drop guys with glancing blows. Forget Foreman, it was Tyson who routinely knocked guys out without even trying to.
To say that a chump like Wilder would be able to beat Tyson is the grossest insult. First off, Wilder isn't even particularly big, he's just tall. And up until recently he came into fights around the same weight as Tyson on a much more lanky frame. Couple that with his atrocious skills and reckless fighting style (and china chin) and he gets folded up and packed away before the end of the second bell.
Joshua is too untested at this moment to say how well he'd do, though given his similarities to a young Frank Bruno I suspect he'll end up going the same way. I can't see Tyson having any problems getting on the inside of Joshua and once he does I think Joshua gets iced.
Fury, as much as I love him, probably wouldn't last the distance unless he fights the absolute fight of his life. I see him getting badly beaten up and stopped or else dropped by a glancing blow after he gets sloppy and leaves himself open. Tyson would also have no fear coming in on him given Fury's relatively light punching power.
Ortiz might give him a fight, but I think ultimately Tyson's speed, savagery and tenacity would get to the old man.
Wlad is the only fighter I see giving Tyson problems due to his style. The Wlad that fought Haye and Chagaev could very well keep Tyson from coming in on the inside and wind up winning an ugly decision. On the other hand, if Tyson starts to get to Wlad I can see Wlad start to mentally cave in and get stopped down the stretch. It's not a fight I'd like to bet on, either way.
He would be fine. I think only Lewis and Vitali beat him.

How many times did he go down?
He looked very vulnerable.
Well all of the KDs were pretty flashy. They weren't hard knockdowns. Klitschko pretty much smashed him up the whole fight.
This was also Klitschko's clinching out party.

Bruno, Ruddock, Berbick, Tony Tucker, Bonecrusher smith, Carl Williams etc...were top ten heavyweights at the time.
you need to watch the fights and fighters instead of regurgitate something you heard someone else say.
Don't be ridiculous.

Tyson struggled with Cowboy Tillis and Boneclutcher went the distance with Tyson. I think he is overrated because the division was the weakest in it's history less the 19th century.
All he beat in his prime years were guys with drug habits and a blown up Michael Spinks.
He also was huge girth wise in that era. Now he would be tiny. That said he was so athletic he would be dangerous against all heavyweights in this era, but I have a feeling he would lose to some of the longer guys with chins like Vitali.
Also if Tyson didn't ko you early he was willing to go the distance because of gas tank issues.
Damn thats the fight i wish happened the Wlad who beat Haye versus the Tyson who beat Spinks, just one word for that fight epic
Yeah, we just need a time machine and there we're up an running.
Why do you say this? He wasn't even a world champ with Cus.
His best work came with Kevin Rooney.
Tyson's problem was mental instability. Cus kept him stable.
Every time Tyson fought a top contender he got exposed. He only looked good beating up bums.

Saying that ad hominem is a statement is a lie and doesn't make your wrong argument right. Stop bolstering your bad logic. You think you're coming off as intelligent but in reality you're a self-righteous know-it-all with your head up your ass.
I explicitly said ad hominem is not a statement :lol1:
Don't try to use words or phrases that you don't understand. You'll get exposed.
no it wasn't. ad hominem is a counter argument that includes personal attack.
Mine was simply a statement, unrelated to an argument. Similarly to when you began by calling me a clown :lol1:
As I said, you don't seem the brightest.

Yes it is.

Where did I ever say that? Now you're just talking out of your ass.
I didn't say you said it simpleton.
You don't seem like the most intelligent person.
Yeah where did I say Rooney was more "impactful" than Cus? :lol1:
Tyson did his best professional work with Kevin Rooney from his 15th fight to beating Michael Spinks for ALL of the titles. I.e. the BEST version of Tyson we EVER saw came with Rooney steering the wheel. Simple.
Saying he did better work (pro) with Cus is absolutely retarded.
I think it's a little too deep for a simpleton like you.
Where did I ever say that? Now you're just talking out of your ass.
