Brand is 39 & has fought 3 times in the last 3 years.. Only one name stands out on his resume (a loss to TO Badou Jack) Plied his trade as an amateur at MW too. Yet he's fighting Ward at 175! This is actually a jaw droppingly awful & comical opponent pick.. Is he even B level?! May as-well have got Russell Brand as an opponent.. What if FMJ was fighting these guys in his prime? Don't get me wrong I have my criticisms of FMJ but isn't Ward supposed to be the USA's boxing superstar right now? It's not like he doesn't have 175 opposition to chose from is it? It's stacked! I hadn't even heard of Brand til the other day.. Where does Ward get em from? Barrera & Brand I mean come on LOL Can someone explain the point of this fight? If you are going to ply your trade at 175 then at least be serious & don't make a mockery of it..
Ward loves them bums. When your last 4 opponents are Rodriguez, Paul the bum, Barrera, and Brand and you want to be considere P4P you're a joke.
Andre the Bumslayer!!!
both can be critique...the media, publications, spent a lot of time trashing mayweather and his choice of opponent while Pac fought lesser guys and got a pass
like you said he was held to an entirely different standard
Mayweather started at 130....so you dont think he spend a lot of time being the smaller man having fought from 130-154?
anyway who are these so called better fighters? Do you really think in 07 Margarito or williams who both lost in around this time were more dangerous than Oscar De La Hoya who is a hall of famer and fought him at his first fight at 154...he chose the ring size, glove brand and size, etc.
how did mayweather have more chances to fight better opposition when they were in the same division for years?
some people wanted the guy to lose and are disappointed
Canelo is a better fighter than both Margo and williams and he beat him easy
several guys he fought were better than those two
I think him bringing hatton up for a fight at WW. then retiring, when he could of fought williams, cotto, mosley, marg instead. As well as waiting till last year to fight pacquiao. Also him fighting Cotto at 154 but canelo at 152 was lame, pacqiuao fighting cotto at 145 not 147 was also lame.
You are saying that mayweather is getting critiqued too much, but you are doing the opposite and making him seem like he is above all criticism.
Pacquiao deserves to get critiqued the same. but lets be honest, JMM was brought up to WW first by mayweather, rios was a comeback fight after manny got KOd, Algieri was meh, but he just beat provo and had a belt. Bradley was a good win.
Both fighters can be critiqued. but mayweather had the more chances to fight better opposition and took the easier fights. Not bad wins just not the best out there. Pacqiuao did it once with Cotto with the catchweight. I dont really blame pacman for the catchweights against oscar or marg cuz he was a smaller man going up in weight to fight them.

Manny Pacquaio is an all time great that campaigned in the same weight class since 2008....147
people picked apart everyone who Mayweather fought...said he ducked people until he beat them, and then insert excuse
whereas with manny you didnt as much as here a peep in the media, publications, or the same posters complain about Manny fighting guys who didnt do anything at the weight before they fought him or were catchweights...Algieri, Bradley(1st fight), Rios, JMM didnt beat any one top ten when he fought them...mosley was #1 at 147 when Mayweather fought him and manny fights the man years with a win at the same weight
people are more critical of fighters they dislike than fighters the like...its simple and obvious

Problem is Floyd took the least risk highest reward fights after beating Oscar. Before that I can't see how people can criticize floydie after well there is plenty to criticize him for only certain posters slurp him up blindly I'm pretty sure you all know who I'm talking about
But theres levels to this sh1t. Mayweather is an ATG so he is held at a higher standard.

my point was he fought 15 current or former titlist in a row....pretty simple.....who else has done that and get criticized.....most of them were coming off big wins.
either way people sound stupid questioning his opposition but pump up fighters whose opposition isnt close

You are actually being misleading again after researching a little. I asked for CHAMPIONS HE FOUGHT IN A ROW?! It's actually 6! 5 if you don't include THE RING belt he won fighting Guerrero. So it's not even 8. Longest streak he had fighting champion after champion (of the top 4 major organisations) was 6 (5 if you don't include winning Ring) Fact! Breaks fighting non champions in between fighting champions do not count! You were trying to suggest he fought them in a row, one after the other!
no I clearly said he fought 15 former and current champions in a row
thats it, its not that deep
how about this....name some one else who has done that period..you cant
now to your point....who has else defeated 5-6 champions in row in recent memory.....i'll wait
lets not forget " mayweather afraid to take risk, he a ducker, he scared doe,!!!"
you idiots trashed a guy who clearly took more risks than anyone in his era just because you didnt like him
deal with it
I think most of the reasonable ppl here will give him a pass if he steps in the Ring as scheduled vs Kovalev , i dont want any big cuts or anything else that can stop the next fight , I want Ward vs Kovalev for P4P supermacy , as a BIG GGG fan I would love him to go into such a 50/50 fight and prove his greatness but alas we dont get it yet (hopefully we do someday) , Ward got his insurance check from HBO if things go bad for him vs Kov.
One thing that most reasonable ppl will agree as well , if Ward delays/cancel or anything like that the Kovalev fight i fully expect the reasonable fans to give him BIG flack for it as he got free money grabs to NOT do such a move.
Lets see the mega fight happen :) hoping for a great boxing match.
He beat total of 22
8
Cotto held the wba 154
ortiz wbc
Mosley was # 1 at 147 held wba until he was stripped before they fought
jmm was lightweight champ
ricky hatton 140
dlh wbc
Baldomir wbc/lineal
judah ibf
2006-2012
all the while he was fighting world class guys, hall of famers, and former champions he was labeled a coward and cherry picker

Just answer a simple question & stop trying to embellish it with convoluted answers to pump up your hero.
So 8 in a row then. Thanks.

fighting former title holders does not mean he fought 15 champions in a row. Ali was a former title holder, hall of famer, ATG, when he fought holmes and Berbick. But neither of those fighters get any credit cuz Ali was past his prime.
FMJ fans trying to give credit to Floyd for his oppositions prior achievements LMAO

After winning the wbc title vs Gatti in 05 every fighter he has fought the last 10 years has either been a former world titleholder, current, or hall of famer
this is starting from 05
Gatti
Sharmba Mitchell
Judah
Baldomir
DLH
Hatton
JMM
Mosley
Victor Ortiz
Cotto
Guerrero
Alvarez
Maidana(2x)
Pacquaio
Berto
his last 16 fights, 15 opponents were all current or former champions......all in a row...yet the last ten years the man has been called a coward, a ducker, doesnt take risks
during this time span he won the wbc title at 140, the wbc at 147 twice, the wba, wbo, ibf, and unified the wba and wbc(2x) at 154
excuses the whole way through...either he would duck them or lose then he wins insert excuse

They certainly complained. Corrales was weight drained. And stressed because he was going to jail. That affected Floyd too if you recall the loss to Cotto.
difference is mayweather sucked it up, kept his focus, remained composed and got the W.
A lot of people dont look at this but when I judge all time greats I look at their preparation and ability to follow a game plan ....for example . Roberto Duran didnt always come in top condition even in his prime, whereas mayweather does. Leonard is an ATG but he let his ego get in the way in fight one vs Duran. Mayweather may talk that talk with the opponent during the build up but he always comes 100% in shape and doesnt let his ego get in the way and get away from the game plan. thats a sign of greatness and focus.
Thats the difference between a very good fighter and a great fighter.
No one makes excuses for floyd, he is human, he has distractions but he still gets in the ring and performs
some people are just upset this man hasnt taken a loss, talked crap and backed it up, and was laughing all the way to the bank.
Criticism for berto, guerrero and jmm was warranted. People called him a coward for fighting corrales and dlh?
before the fights were signed, he wasnt going to fight Corrales and dlh, lead up he was supposed to get knocked out,Corrales was actually the favorite in many peoples eyes, then he beats them and wins.....insert excuse
it has happens every big fight since he beat Corrales.....too old, too young, corrales was drained(even though he went right back to 130 after a two year hiatus and won another world title)
its always excuses.
This is 2009, he was set to fight Marquez.....he literally goes on to fight every one Brian Kenny called for and when he did...insert the excuses why he won.....he beat Cotto, Marquez, Pac, and Mosley after this. He beat them all fair and square.
He had been dealing with that crap a long time by 09
