this is not the norm when you look at past greats who moved up after already establishing their greatness. and why do people keep downplaying his fight vs barerra? it was not bad at all. typical ward fight. he still showed great defense and still read barerras punches very well. Remember, the past greats also fought a lot more frequently. If Andre had been fighting more often, him needing tune-up bouts prior to Kovalev fight wouldn't even be in discussion. Andre was clearly in test-the-water mode against Sully. To me, it appeared he was sitting down on his shots a bit more, testing out his power and conditioning.

Why is GGG trying to fight smaller Canelo??? Has he ever fought a bigger guy? Nope. Gigi has quit a few smaller guys on his sad resume. I think all GGG opponents outweighed him in the ring. Even Canelo would (175 > 171)

Those are the facts and it's part of the business that the average fan has no knowledge of! Ward will fight Koval but in the mean time he needs to go through another training camp and another bout leading up to the Koval match up. Boxing is progressions on top of progression. I'm a huge Ward fan, but this is a garbage fight. There are 3-6 light heavys that would've been a better choice. This better lead t Kovalev fight or last chance for Ward.
