BELT up boxing fans because you are being taken for a ride with all these world' titles. This week it was announced WBA lightweight champion Anthony Crolla will face WBC Diamond' belt holder Jorge Linares. What is a Diamond' belt and where will all this nonsense stop? Click Here To Read More]
Taking the belts out of the equation and looking at the fight itself...it's a good one. I'm looking forward to it. The 2 best at he weight IMO.
It's a good fight that will generate a big purse for both of them. That can't be argued.
Just don't call it a unification fight as the WBC is trying to do.
Flanagan has Crolla problems, he can't think of anybody else. He'll wait for a fight with Crolla. He'll fight decrepid Fana in his living room and then demand his rights as "champion". Nonsense indeed.
Men he sounds so butthurt... There are bigger problems than WBC allowing Linares to have a big fight with WBA champion. They can call it however they want - diamon, pluton - it's irrelevant really. Key is Linares will fight Crolla and winner will have to fight Zlaticanin to be recognised as WBC champion. I think all 3 are top 5 in the division - how is that bad for boxing?
On the other hand, WBO allowing guys like Jimmy Kelly, Predrag Radosevic, Shawn Hawk to mention a few Frank might remember, in their top 15 is bad. It allows fighters to hold the belt hostage, avoid tough competition and in effect often freeze out the competition in entire division, as the best contenders can't get their shot.
There's a reason Frank has this relationship with WBO. No tough mandatories, journeyman fighters in top 15 that you can defend against for years. Boxing fan's heaven.Great post. And the WBO are just as bad anyway. They have interim champs and didn't they give some BS title to Manny, the Champion of the Decade belt or something? All the sanctioning bodies are on a race to the bottom.
Crolla-Linares makes more sense and puts Crolla in a better bargaining position than before for the Flanagan unification. And if Crolla then beats Zlaticanin, he's WBC/WBA champion with a sparkling resume and genuine international standing. He'd have beaten Zlaticanin, Linares, Barroso and Perez in his last four fights. That's a world-class resume. Flanagan, meanwhile, is fighting frickin Mzonke Fana. Warren needs to get him a recognisable name. The Magdaleno fight was a good one, but failed to build on it.
Warren is taking shots at Hearn. That's what this is. He's mad because theirs no super fight in the UK between Crolla/Flanagan. Linares has been around longer, fought in bigger fights, and deserves this fight.
This is a unification fight. And the winner moves on to bigger and better things.
Warren wants a big fight for Flanagan how about fighting Kid Blast or seeing if guys like Loma or Vargas wanna move up weight?
It is ridiculous and laughable, Zlaticanin is the rightful champ who's been ducked by Linares. This is not a unification, it's more like a fight to win the WBA and become #1 challenger for the WBC. Pathethic and cheap move to sell more tickets.

Linares is the man recognised as WBC champion, and he is a far bigger name in world boxing than Flanagan. If Crolla beats him, it will mean more to his international status than if he beats Flanagan. Warren needs to get it into his head that whatever Flanagan's talents he is virtually unknown outside his back yard. Crolla, in contrast, is a 'name' because of his heroics outside and inside the ring.
