Just a few years ago, Matthysse was the MAN to you guys. EVERYONE had him KOing Garcia, and some of you even called that he would KO Floyd.
What happened?

Reality set in and like Republicans tried to pretend that the 8-year presidency of George Bush didn't exist, the posters on this message board tried to pretend like they were not the ones who were hailing Matthysse as the savior of boxing (by savior, I mean the guy who was going to KO Floyd Mayweather).
He was favored to win against Garcia but he was never even viewed as a pound for pound type of guy.
His buzz came from destroying Peterson and seemingly hurting him with punches that barely landed...and richard shaeffer calling him the new Pacquaio
They were overhyping Matthysee long before the Peterson fight
post of the day
as soon as Mattyssee fights the best in the division regularly his limitations were exposed...a lot of people forget a past prime Judah has a legit win over him too. He knocking out no names stiffs for the most part before they fought
the Matthyssee fans are the guys who were on the manny bandwagon until he got ktfo....then they went to the next best "exciting puncher"....he loses to Garcia...then they hopped to GGG......ITS PATHETIC
Lol at post of the day. This has been posted hundreds of times by know nothing idiots. Not surprised this guy was impressed lol
A lot of people were commenting as if Matthysse was going to murder Garcia in the ring. God helped you I'd you didn't agree. I gave Garcia a slight edge before the fight. The Postol loss was embarrassing to me. He basically quit.

I wouldn't necessarily go that far or say he was regarded a god, by some he was definitely made out to be more than he was but he is a decent fighter who ended up coming up short against garcia and others..
I suppose in the end people just got annoyed with some off the hype but then again it's happened with plenty off other fighters they rise and are touted as this or that then end up losing to some one their expected to be then they fall and sometimes rise again or don't sooner or later.

:lol1: :lol1: yeah, he totally schooled lucas
If you want the real truth, bump the "Do you consider Matthysee an undefeated fighter?" thread.
Guys here were falling all over themselves, saying he'll never be beaten, his losses were robberies that shouldn't count, etc.
i pointed out Judah because he exposed some of his limitations...at the time, no one was high on Judah, but a past prime Judah beat him.....red flag....its not like he improved drastically since that fight
between Judah and garcia, the only world class fighters JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT he fought was lamont peterson, who was a perennial contender. Humberto soto was world class @ 126-135...he was undersized at 140 and never beat anyone of note
get your facts str8
No one was high on Judah? Are you kidding? Matthysse was just some foreign puncher brought in to make a "rejuvenated" Judah look good. And instead most thought Matthysse won. Holding that fight against him, especially as his first 12 round fight, is ridiculous and no one at the time did so. It was only later when the Matthysse hype train took off that anyone looked back and held it against him.
Um, Devon Alexander? Ajose Olusegun (Garcia's mandatory at the time)? And Soto was a world class fighter, whether he want to pretend otherwise or not. He beat John Molina years later at the weight, when he was far worse. Then he fought Peterson. Matthysse fought a pretty solid string of world class fights between Judah and Garcia. Mike Dallas was the only fight looked at as a soft touch.
Danny Garcia is like Klay and Steph to me in the sense that their looks create this perception as if they aren't as thorough as people think they are. Lucas was looking like the typical cult following fighter, a guy who faces who you want him to face and does it out of the love of boxing but after a while you found out that he was really skilled, but not quite that guy. People for some reason just don't respect DG. Lucas was heavily favored, i thought he'd win but he has a horrible horrible corner because on the fly they don't tell him to watch out for certain things like the low blows by Danny or the hits to the back of the head from Postol. Its as if they leave him dead in the water and refuse to help him out.
Nsb is full of bandwagon fans. I bet theres a lot of fake ass dudes on here right now acting like the never believed the hype, trying to act knowledgible by saying they knew it all along. I will admit, i fell into his hype. It was hard not to. His biggest problem to me and still is his mental weakness and how could anyone have foreseen that? Guys that convincingly beat Mattysse are guys that stand their ground with him and until Garcia we never got that. I know Judah & Alexander beat him but it was controversial.
We were proven wrong. There's nothing wrong with changing your opinion when it is proven wrong. I wish more people around here would do so.
No one gave a sh*t about Matthysse before the Judah fight, and most had no idea who he even was. Judah was his first 12 round fight. His performance in that fight and the Alexander robbery are the only reason anyone ever cared. He spent years fighting and beating world class competition before Garcia. Clearly he didn't get exposed against good competition every time.
You're talking like he was hyped up going into the Judah fight and no one would admit he was worse than they thought. He earned his following. There is a reason Garcia beating him matters. The way most haters talk about Matthysse, Garcia should get no credit at all.
well said mate :beerchug:

He had bad luck in the fight against Garcia. His eye closed, he won most of the rounds before that.
He still lost the fight, it's ok, but it wasn't a schooling.
Postol clinched him A LOT. Took all the energy from him. You can see that unless you're a biased stupid hater.
We don't know if he could KO Mayweather. Could Maidana KO Mayweather? we don't know since Mayweather forced him to use pillow gloves.
Still is bich. On a serious note he was a solid fighter and it's sad that he never won a world title after beating 5 or 6 "former" world champions. I'll be honest, the loss to Postol hurt me and I lost a bit of passion for watching boxing but I still box as an amateur and fights are starting to excite me again.
good luck with the fights, man. :beerchug:
